  • When asked if there was any particular case or incident that affirmed his faith in his abilities at the Bar, Iqbal Chagla said, "I can't say a particular case made me go this way or that way".
He said that his advice to his son was not to enter the Bar. Iqbal Chagla strongly feels that law is no longer treated as a profession. "It is being treated like a trade... like a business and this is not the intention of law. "
"Any young man coming to the Bar must look upon it as a profession", said Iqbal Chagla. "When law is treated as a profession, the income will come. It must be something that one wants to practice as a profession."
His advice to young lawyers entering the filed of commercial law was to not be afraid. Though it is of great advantage to have a background of accountancy and commerce, it is not essential to enter the field of commercial law.
"Everyone should model themselves to be like Nani Palkhiwala", said Iqbal Chagla about the requirement of eloquence at the Bar. "Simplicity of language is the most important thing. Eloquence, to me is to simplify the most complicated problems of law".
