I found a trick to catching more dungees this year. I use kielbasa sausage or Italian pork sausage because it’s the oiliest fattiest meat you can find and the scent trail travels FAR in water and draws them in. I use chicken thigh and pork sausage and always get keepers

Sounds like I should do a sausage bait crabbing challenge! I do agree the oil from the sausage does attract the crabs!

I tried mackerel and chicken and anchovies and herring and so many baits. Even trout heads. Anchovies best everyone and we always snare more trout than anyone else. Crab slayer snares are the best. Have you tried crab snaring on the piers? It’s magical

The sea lions LOVE CHICKEN in the bay area. They will go hard on breaking into crab traps to get the chicken. Pro tip, if using a hoop net, get some chicken wire and zip tie two layers of chicken wire loosely over the chicken. Be sure to leave some pokey piece of chicken wire point upwards to poke the sea lions. Also, it's legal to use a sling shot on sea lions only if they are stealing your bait or your crabs.

I have never seen a sea lion go after chicken...and up here in Oregon we can sling some paintballs towards them to keep them away...
