Apparently Luke Cage's power CAN be reduced
No one simply walks to Baron Mordor
Thank you
Opens the drawer, picks up a dusted card, dusts off the werewolf: "it's time, boys!'
The Leech nerf definitely needed to happen, but i do find it odd that they mentioned countering Annihilus as part of it's initial change. I figured the 4-cost version was aiming to target Corvus ramp into Hela on T5, which is now back on the menu probably.
Overall though? Great balance changes!
100% back on the menu :(
I think people forgot how much annihilus dominated the game prior to blink lol. The pixie/mobious variant in particular was extremely oppresive.
I think they've been pretty consistent in their messaging around Leech. A lot of people were hoping it would help with Hela (turns out, not so much, although her numbers have dropped, unclear if that's because there's better things to be doing or if people were unnecessarily worried about getting Leeched), but even at the time of the original change, SD said their primary concern was the Annihilus package.
also they're trying to focus annihilus who has a lot of counter plays, while hela and loki have almost none
@@vhfulgencioLoki has counter play.
Luke a 3 power. OH Ho another C3 tool for a deck that was already starting to come up in performance.
It is important to note that Luke could actually make valk worse in some spots where you want her to cut something on your side for the cerebro bonus like the monster island monster
@@munchlacks2900 i mean by turn 3 the turn you want to play Luke you will already know if there will be a monster or not so play him or not
@munchlacks2900 exactly, knowledgeable plays do not constitute a card having a worse effect. That would say more on you as a player than the card itself lol.
@@munchlacks2900 then that would be a "no cerebro game" where u dont play cerebro at all. you can win by ironman or shang on monster, mystique, or valk hidden by invi woman to ensure hit
I'm happy to have C3 more consistent again with Luke back. C3 will probably never be "the top deck" but it has some nice qualities as an anti-meta deck
When everyone was playing Loki last year, C3 was a budget deck answer. When decks get really greedy going tall, Cerebro 3 says sorry, only one of your lanes is big now with Valk.
But Luke getting taken out meant one Hazmat, or Evolved Cyclops and Thing were nearly an instant loss. I know people were still finding success with it sans Luke, but it made an already fragile deck break so much more often.
And Luke never needed 4 power. His effect is strong enough to put him even lower than 3.
Hopefully the end of "Do you think they'll buff Captain America?" questions.
And sadly the beginning of "Captain America deserves a better change than this" 😅
@@Juanki_jki 3/8 Versus 3/6 is a BIG difference. About all we could really hope for
Waiting on "should they nerf captain America"
@@shadowofdimentio4618 I know it, but people sure will complain 🤷🏻♂️. That's why I wrote that
BUFF CAPTAIN AMERICA
7:30 the first thing I thought when I saw the 3/1 stat line has been Ravonna, to make him jump on turn 3 with a 1 cost. Ravonna also opens the deck up for things like 2 cost Green Goblin and Sage, to add more jumps and stats.
Yep. We're creeping closer and closer to Ravonna being as omnipresent as Zabu was. Turns out cost reductions are good.
I'm definitely throwing him into a junk deck with the goblins as soon as this goes live. Werewolf-GG was one of my favorite combos when he was a 3-3.
About the suspiciously absent Hela - maybe something like “Reanimate cards you’ve discarded at random at this location and an adjacent one”? It would impose some consistency and cap the overall output. Might be convoluted and inadequate, but I’m trying to think like a dev
They've continuously said their internal Hela stats are healthy.
I love this set of changes! I think the Leech analysis was spot on, and I don’t know if the Leech/blink stuff was really an intended outcome, so I’m glad to see him go back to 5 cost. Hopefully these go live as is, because this is a pretty exciting set of changes overall.
Werewolf buff is all I ever wanted. My actual favorite card.
Facts, the original version was the most fun I've ever had in Snap. It's just so satisfying to see him jump around
Need 2K more tokens to get him in my shop really want the June 4th variant coming for WWBN with the marshmallows idc if it’s $100 😂 can’t wait to get this card
Leech 4:2 remove the on reveal abilities from 5 and 6 cost cards in your opponent's hand. Or something like that. Keep the smaller cards usable.
That is an idea. It would not hurt things like surfer at all , but be really meta dependent tho.
I mean 4:2 leech would be ass still
I would be fine with this. The linear decks that just slam big on reveals at the end of the game like hela and anni and cannonball are boring to play with and against anyway. Pushing deck that require sequencing decisions to the top and the linear 1 card per turn decks down is a good thing imo.
I’d make Leech an “On reveal: steal the on reveal effect of a card in the opponent’s hand”. That way it doesn’t fully control a hand but keeps its disruptive nature and offers an extra upside (kind of the Rogue of On reveal effects)
Current ability is more thematically appropriate, and although that's not the highest of priorities, it is something they consider when it comes to the design space certain cards have.
I wish it only target 4-6 Cost cards, that way it affects the cards they want to affect, but archetypes like Bounce or Surfer wouldn't get caught in the crossfire.
@@showdowns1917 that’s actually a brilliant idea as well, I wonder if they’d take that route
Or even something like "Erase the effect of the highest cost card in your opponents hand". That way its still Leech but he only take one card away.
@@showdowns1917 My first thought was affect only 6-cost cards but this is probably better bc it hits shang-chi and annihulus, 2 big cards they likely want to tone down. It would also justify better stats meaning it might actually function as a deterrent to big boi decks
The fact that leech gets nerfed a week after the previous change is hysterical, but very much deserved
Yeah it was bound to happen. Leech is over used.
They nerf Leech but don’t touch the destroy decks that’s hilarious
@@BurningRevoler Destroy decks are almost always consistently T2 in any meta. They're never super powerful because there's no surprise factor, you can SEE how many cards your opponent has destroyed. If they've killed a ton of things, if their Deadpool is super big, you should just retreat.
No it shows the ability to test the waters. It’s actually great
@@ChiPsiUp another thing to note is that destroy has many counters such as Armor, Cosmo, MMM, Caiera (protecting against Killmonger) and Shang Chi.
In other words, even if destroy becomes too oppressive there are tech card that keep it in check.
man spectrum was finally good in ONE deck for like 2 weeks and they’re already nerfing her while hela stays untouched..
they buffed her with captain america
@@hypermobilesinger i get that but its still frustrating seeing SD 'pre-nerf' cards like spectrum and viper before they recieve support while hela (and prof x to an extent) remains untouched while constantly getting cards that make her better i.e. corvus, red hulk, blink. but 'oh noo the deck is getting +1 point from captain america (because punisher was already a 3/7) better nerf it' and its still losing a point to luke cage, im not gonna pretend like the deck losing a point is gonna kill it but the clear bias when balancing decks is frustrating
Agree
But I want to add that viper died after havok release because some ppl started doing havok viper combo
@@hypermobilesinger That's barely a buff though because the lane with all of the ongoing cards was usually a winning lane already. Ant-Man/Mojo/Jean Grey/Punisher/Omega Red/Coscmo/etc., in one lane was already enough to consistently win that lane with the buff from Spectrum at the end, so you needed the extra point from Spectrum to help win the second lane. Cap doesn't even help that much in the lane cause he's a 3/8 while Mojo was already a 2/8 (best case) and Punisher was a 3/7. Cap would only be really good if he buffed ongoing cards anywhere on the board. I don't think this change was necessary.
@@krumpi6500Just to quibble: Punisher is only a 3/7 if your opponent fills that location. Cap being a 3/8 is dependent on your plays.
Cap also gets more from onslaught than Punisher does.
Thanks for this great breakdown. Looking forward to these changes if they end up staying the same.
I just love these balance changes, but if they made a viper a 2/3 since they already nerfed sentry, it would actually be my favourite.
Viper can't go back to 2 energy because of Havok combos
@@sillykyle17 the havok combo wasn't even good when it existed
I wouldn't mind a more targeted effect on a 3/5 Viper tbh
I mean hot take about viper I think viper should be overstated like a 2/4
@@jaylee1445 even if it's not good it's still problematic for it to be available starting on turn 3 imo
I'm fairly hyped for these updates. Werewolfs back Luke can go into c3, and the cap buff is long overdue kinda wanted to see a hit to loki, but it's fine.
What did loki ever do to you?? I get that losing against your own cards with minus cost sucks but loki only shines against decks that stay the same through the whole match... if you playing things like deadpool or kitty or thanos he just retreats..
Loki and Hela both seems to avoid any changes, they are probably trying to figure out what to do with them.
@@TheSuperf12loki is usually what most top players in the game play. It's very strong into everything but Hela if you are good at the archetype. Loki was pretty great into most thanos and destroy decks when that was played.
@@swedishZ0mBi3 hela i 100% agree with.. loki i think its more specific... in competitive knowing your opponents deck first goes a long way and lokinwas doing good early because it was a 3 cost so you could get into the destory decks early curve faster... regarding thanos.. thanos when played as just utility gets sacked by loki.. but when thanos is played as the main card loki is weaker..
@@swedishZ0mBi3 although i disagree with SD's discord statemant they have said publically that hela's metrics seem to be fine and healthy... so i am not sure if there are any planned changes coming for it.
Some spicy changes! The Baron 'buff' seems like it might not be enough. It's better, yes, but doesn't it have a similar issue to leech? The information asymmetry: You will never know what card you hit, but the opponent does, so they can retreat with having more information about how they were disrupted than you do. It might even hit a card that the opponent CAN wait until 6 to play, allow them to retreat with less loss or win with greater gains. Ever since your twitch clip on information asymmetry - i hope spellcheck isn't doing me dirty here - I've really liked looking at disruption cards in that light. :)
I like the changes overall, and their explanations make sense logically. These OTA updates to cards are really unique compared to other games and I really appreciate, like you said, that they are willing to experiment even if they sometimes miss the mark.
Can't wait to play anni bounce + other bounce variations with wolf back at 3. We've missed you, wolf
Also very excited about the WW buff, love playing that card! Thanks for the video and update!
Another great set of changes. Looking forward to see it go live.
Oh nice, GM, too. I don't have GM, or WWBN yet, so gives me some new cards to go after. I'd gotten to the point where I have around 8-10 cards left to collect, and wasn't really bothered about any of them.
got werewolf a few weeks after he was gutted. super stoked to finally use him! got Sage too so looks like i'll be joining the bounce ppl soon.
Super funny to see two hits to the Spectrum Ongoing deck right after I used it to climb the last few ranks to Infinite yesterday. Good timing for me. lol
Werewolf is back!!! I loved him back when he was three and can't wait to try that again. Going to use grandmaster with him on turn 6 as it will add a lot of power to the gm'd location
This makes me very happy! :D Hopefully this information is true. Thanks for sharing! I will be brewing some sage+ww+gm decks. Sage will rise up in the meta after leech is gone is my prediction!
Not sure if I like the GM change because now he cant be reduced by Ravonna. Sure you could do the same with Sera but having a 1/0 to double proc an effect from turns 3-6 are way better.
Idk, I feel like GM is going to see less play, at least in my decks I had him in.
That said, He may find a home in C2 now.
9:55 totally agree. SD are great at providing context while experimenting and staying humble and true to their values.
Could you say more on the Annihilus shell? How large of a problem has it been to the metagame? Is Annihilus really just an alias for Galactus?
The Annihilus shell had been one of the best mini shells in Snap. Hood, Sentry, Annihilus. Maybe Carnage or Lady Deathstrike, but the first 3 alone is a great set of cards that could slot into a lot of midrange decks. Sure, there were some Galactus decks, but more were just good cards with small synergy packages.
However, they had taken a hit lately from Leech being popular, and Leech is being nerfed again, so a nerf on that Annihilus package makes sense now.
Is annihilus still worth getting for tokens? Or am i better off with buying canonball e.g
Annihilus is irreplaceable in Annihilus decks-you just can’t play the deck. Cannonball theoretically could be any good 5-drop (Vision, Klaw). But if the Annihilus decks don’t look like fun to you, don’t get him.
I think leech must stay as cost 4 card but limit the number of cards affected, let say 3 cards randomly. My reason is, at cost 5 he is useless, what he will counter at cost 5? when hela, annihilus etc can be drop on turn 5
Leech nerf! Jane Negative is back on the table!
The worst part of leech, for the game balance, is that it punishes you for cooking. Glad to see changes to that card be rolled back.
Everything looks really good here. I didn't expect the Sentry nerf, but I'm not bothered by it.
I havent played this game since the last OTA, I am so hyped for these changes!! Although I am still concerned with the number of ongoing decks in the meta right now
Really looking forward to Sage bounce with werewolf. Maybe too clunky?? But can’t wait to try it!
Add ravona, opens up early jumps and discounts ww sage and goblins. Toss in hawkeye and rocket and medusa and beast and I think we have a strong "start small get bigger" deck.
Captain America change is not cool. Why not just +2 for all?
I’m so glad werewolf by night is being buffed! I just got the Dan Hip variant!
The werewolf by night adjustment warms the soul
Werewolf was one of my favourite cards, great that they have buffed it. Werewolf, goblins, Sage and Ravona seems like a fun brew to try. Now just waiting for a hit monkey buff.
Was waiting for you reaction hahaha😂. Love the Werewolf by Night change. I think it might be getting ready for the Sasquatch release
Impressive the amount of cards that they tuned in this OTA, still not sure if Mordo buff will be useful I don't see a deck where he could be useful, leech nerf was needed but with the massive on going nerf I fear that Hela will come back because 5 cost leech cannot stop hela all the time, since hela players adapt and because of corvus they can play her at 5, and not many decks can compete with her now and she's still going untouched for some reason
Is it Thursday yet??? Such good changes.
I like these changes, although I'd like to see some nerfs to Hela and Professor X clutter decks.
WWBN is back. Bounce was already in a good place, since Sage. We also have Sassy in a week. I'm excited.
Does this mean we might see a Monkey buff at some point, too? I only just got into playing monkey decks, when sage came out (I missed monkey due to downtime from the game, same with WWBN) but I think bounce is my favourite now. Monkey is basically edwin vancleef, and Beast like shadowstep from rogue in HS.
Glad they're buffing cap. As much as I agree they should have iconic characters available for early game. I also think it's smart to keep those iconic characters at least moderately meta relevant in the end game too. I think this change will accomplish that end.
Baron Mordor sounds like an awesome card. The unblinking eye of Sauron gives this 3 snaps in a z formation.
Actually when I was playing annhulis/sentry the first half of the month I was getting hit by alot of Shangs. Yes he may have low play rate, doesn't mean he isn't played still
Incredible content as always Jeff. You remain my favorite content producer in this space for a reason
Really nice balance patch this time! Hope this is what we get!
So excited to play werewolf again
Second dinner, you make me love your game more when i see this patch, i can't wait to play snap tomorrow and to see patch like this again❤
Sweet crossover event.
In the land of Mordor….where the shadows lie
Why didn't Baron Mordor just fly the eagles to Kamar Taj to retrieve the Mind Stone?
Will sage be must buy now?
I dont think so. It will have synergy with wwbn but will be a replaceable part of that shell. Plenty of cheap on reveal cards that add power or utility, that archetype will have plenty of tools to play around with.
Can't wait to enjoy the game again. Leech blink was just too much to bear.
got sage and us agent yesterday and now werewolf buff, the sun is shining and the birds are chirping we are so back
That sentry nerf is a bit much IMO, it is barely playable if you dont draw annihulus, and even if you do, people pretty much always fill the right lane before you can send it over. Annihulus deck doesnt have many big cards, so its a big hit
Baron is going to be a beast! When will Gladiator get a nerf? Either he looses half of his power or get deleted off the board! Tired of seeing that card used and not getting any penalty when it pulls a strong enough card
Great changes!!! Sad to see sentry change, it was a big player in my Skaar Anni deck. Time to tweak it.
He should have stood 4/10 and the Void could have just dropped to -8
Best OTA Leaked Notes Review Thumbnail ever!
finally a use for my cap variants
Werewolf getting changed to 3/1 was well deserved. I think it was one of the more fun cards but him as a 4 cost never felt right. I'm glad I'll get to play him around and also see him in action some more when the OTA hits
Leech at 4/2 really helped C2 work against a lot of decks. Glad they gave us potential cap?
"We were hopeful that Leader stocks would go up with Red Hulk"
SD continues to show us that they are thinking about a lot of things we as players never think about because they are good at their jobs.
While I'm glad Leech went back to 5 cost, I don't also think this isn't his final form. How would you feel about him being a 1/1 "On reveal: remove the abilities of the next card your opponent draws."? It keeps his original flavor, doesn't fry an entire hand, and can be bounced/reused if you really wanted to.
Too close to Ham I think. I'd like to see him strip the on reveal of the highest cost card in the opponents hand. Make it a tech card for Hela
@@HooglandiaSnap what stat line would you give this kind of card? Low similar to Ham or something in the vein of a Silver Samurai?
Wonderful changes. If they dont want tko rework X or Hela, at least make goose a 2/3 other fantastic changes
I love Jeff’s videos
My skaar deck used sentry cause i dont have cull obsidian :( now i cant play it until i get him rip
Werewolf is back Cant Wait!!!
I couldn't have been happier! Werewolf buff was the best and I am very excited! Thank you Jeff for this video found it really helpful!!
"They nerfed Leech because fuck that guy" This is part of why I've been subbed to you for so long lol. I stopped splitting WWBN variants after they nerfed him, so now I need to get him to gold before I start playing him again! Very happy with these changes, Leech and WWBN most of all.
I feel really bad for everyone that has to face Jeff with these Werewolf buffs, mans going to be feasting on cubes 🤣
Leech into Blink is so oppressive, restricting that combo to ramp decks seems acceptable.
Why won’t they address Hela?!?!?!
Wolfie is back!!!
First the 3->6 blink deck and now a power buff to grandmaster himself? My stonks are on the rise!
The Sentry changes really feels like a sidegrade to him instead of a buff or nerf. Making him 8 power means he now can avoid shang chi.
HUGE news for us bounce enjoyers! First we get Angela back & now Wolfie?! All we need now is Kitty back to scaling @ +2 ... 😏
Sentry/annihilus skaarhawk deck is dead very sad but now sentry doesn’t get shanged so I’ll take it
C2 with Captain America, possibly?
Overall, this set of changes look really good and I hope they drop as is, especially Werewolf as I truly think that's one of the most interesting cards we have. I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist around the Leech changes, though. They buff him making Blink a much more enticing card and then nerf him right before Namora comes out and she would be DOA in a Leech meta.....
hot damn werewolf bounce back in action baby
Cap in C2 to buff Cerebro and Mystique?
I feel that sentry nerf will turn out to be a buff. I mean, yes you lose 2 power, but he is no longer shangable.
anyone else turning around to get sage last-minute? I don’t have legion so it seems maybe worth it
Captain America fits perfectly with cerebro 2 decks now 😯 cerebro and mystique become boosted cards now
I wish Captain America and Grandmaster were 3/1 and 2/1 instead for Ravonna synergy.
I'm sure that was though out. Energy cheat is really strong and they are probably trying to avoid a zabu situation. WWBN is already a ravona card now and it pairs well with goblins and sage. They probably don't want a single energy cheat to become a staple like zabu was.
@@thanoshadtherightidea8724 hmm that's true.
Luckily I already replaced Leech because I actually felt it wasn't decent in those decks he was in
no wonder none of my birthday party RSVP's came back
Cap is going to get exposed by Enchantress.
I think the balance team is largely pretty good, but it seems to me that they base almost all their decisions around win rate data and little else. That's a fine metric, but not the only one that matters. Looking at win rate in a vacuum tends to make things like "maybe let's buff leech" sound reasonable and lets them completely ignore how playing against Hela has always sucked just because it's not winning every game.
this patch looks so amazing
Captain America in C2? If you place him in the same lane as cerebro and mistique both will be 2 power and will also get the bonus
Being awkward with goose and blue marvel though
Werewolf is so fun. Thank you SD. ❤
Don't tempt me with a good time SD with the wwbn potential change.
Ideas off the top of my head. Grandmaster C2(probably bad, but I need to get it out of my system) and maybe old anni bounce with werewolf? And as always, fuck leech
Baron Mordo quicky becoming my most hated card. That's incredibly disruptive!
That Sentry nerf hits so hard as my favorite card...
I JUST had Werewolf in the shop yesterday but didn’t pin him because he’s 4/4 🙄
I’m especially excited for that Captain America change, that seems unbelievably strong.
