Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

It’s amazing the difference in quality between Jimmy McGill’s commercials and Saul Goodman’s commercials. All of the commercials are cheap and cut corners but there is so much more effort and good faith in Jimmy’s commercials. Saul’s are all green screen, lazily made, and done to just get more clients and more money
@@your_averageboi9083 This is truly the moment
To be fair, all of the commercials are made for the sake of getting clients and money, it's just that Saul is a lot more upfront about playing it up for the camera; being outrageous is much easier and gets people's attention, like being a class clown. No publicity is bad publicity, as they say.
On the other hand Jimmy, at this stage of the story, is not quite disillussioned enough with his job; he tries to appear proper because he wants to be a respectable attorney, but that's a lot harder for him than it seems at first glance.
Yep. Pragmatism ironically isn't practical.
Saul is the perfect ambulance chaser. I love Sauls post air-crash adverts.

Even when you know it’s PR stunt, this scene still has some tension. So when I watch this scene, I like to imagine that Jimmy is legitimately just saving a construction worker out of the kindness of his heart. The crowd gathering under the billboard is almost like a surrogate for how I like to watch this scene.
It might not be kindness but he knows there is genuine danger for the guy even though they planned it
@@PRubin-rh4sr not really, the guy would’ve been perfectly fine hanging there until legitimate help arrived

Jimmy definitely had a knack for making cheap but eye-catching ads... that should have been his line of work but noooo he had to impress his brother and meet the latter's expectations.
He could have become a Don Draper but Chuck made him a Saul.
That's a good idea
I mean he does show throghout the series that he loves being a lawyer. Even Kim says it and that Jimmy is “a damm good lawyer”. So I don’t think is on the wrong profession
@@franciscosimoes2456 Biggest mistake of his life was not cutting Chuck out of his life completely after he found out about his second sabotage. Could have formed his practice with Kim, would still be friends with Howard, perhaps his working and personal relationship with him would have become better, even. Woukd have gotten the Sandpiper money eventually and no more of his jealous, petty little man of a brother constsntly abusing him despite him being clean for nearly a decade now(and this bilboard was nothing , it's in the corporate game). No more resentment and heartbreak. Perhaps even Chuck would have gotten better and solved his ridiculous little "condishun".

Wow, what a wholesome hero. It turns out he was an HHM employee, working in the printing department! The CEO should give him praise, and make him a lawyer there!
2:30 just noticed he gives a small thumbs up to signal the guy to fall
good catch!
I like how he specifies to keep him and billboard in same frame, not for his publicity while telling his case but for that guy could shoot whole scene when the worker falls off.
Watching the billboard worker grab at his safety line was low-key terrifying. I get that it's probably impossible to unlatch yourself but still: equipment fails. This scene was genuinely great.
He’s grabbing at the line to take less weight off the harness for realism, you can die within 5 minutes when hanging in a safety harness, it cuts the blood flow to your main arteries in your legs when being suspended in a safety harness. It’s crazy that this isn’t common knowledge and mostly only construction workers know this lol
Imagine your boss telling you to take down a billboard then as yoyr doing it you fall and the guy on the billboard comes to save you
The way he keeps looking back at the billboard doesn't seem to be one of sadness, like "oh no, they're gonna tear down my billboard". It's more of a knowing glance that something is gonna happen. But to the intended audience it could easily be interpreted as the former
I love the dynamic between jimmy and the college students
Me too. I love the camera guy. I knew tons of guys like that with that type of I don't care attitude. The actor portrayed it so well.

"your telling me a man orchestrates a fall like that!? No! HE just happened to fall like that!"
This is the moment Jimmy became a billboard
I love the bass music used in this scene sm
The funny thing is, Jimmy only needed to orchestrate it to ensure that someone was in a POSITION where he could appear to save them,
if the guy had just fallen regardless, Jimmy probably would have gone to save him regardless. that's one of the reasons this scene is so convincing before the fact that its' a setup is confirmed.
Ultimately Jimmy isn't necessarily a good man, but he has good in him, he has empathy and he has a selfless streak that appears fairly frequently. it's why he sympathises with a man who's holding him at gunpoint, telling him to get some air and sounding sincerely concerned over his vicious cough (Walt when they first met)
True that. And in the final season, only so little of what you said is left.

huh the cue to worker to fall down happens at 2:30 "so now my little billboard comes down". Just noticed. love this show.
One of the best scenes form S01
Having worked aloft and worn a harness very similar to that one, I can tell you that this isn't the safe, comfy excursion some commenters think it is. Even if you expected it/did it intentionally, the leg straps eat into your thighs and cut off circulation to your legs. Some (but not all, and I don't see them here) harness "models" actually have little elastic straps you can break out from the main section specifically for the purpose of giving you a "step" where you can place your feet to take some of the pressure off of your legs and transfer it to your torso (it's hard to describe in words and admittedly sounds kinda nonsensical when I say it, but I promise it's a thing).
Tl;Dr obviously this was planned and the guy was "playing a part", but it would be extremely uncomfortable, if not outright dangerous, not because of the fall itself but the dangling. Fortunately Jimmy had it planned out and the dude/worker guy didn't have to wait too long but... I certainly wouldn't do it.
Yeah and you will actually die from compartment syndrome if you're left like that for more than a few minutes
