  • Port Disney was one of Disney's most ambitious plans to expand into the Port of Long Beach, however, after countless years of struggle the project was abandoned and forgotten. Why did this happen and whats left of Port Disney today?
This video of Port Disney covers Port Disney as well as the development of other attractions around Long Beach such as the Queen Mary and the Spruce Goose.

Putting this out there, I've heard a rumor (which really should be taken with a grain of salt) that Disney plans to make a Disney Sea at Walt Disney World with the only a couple of notable alterations to the original park that being it will be the biggest park in Disney History (600 acres compared to DS' 121 acres). In addition to recreating many of DS' many iconic elements due to how large the park is planned to be new areas that are yet to be added in DS are ones like Kumandra, The Island of Prospero and be based on plays by William Shakespeare.
This would also include Mount Prometheus being made at about 199.5 feet tall (same height as Everest over in Animal Kingdom) plus the return of Storm Rider, an expanded Port Discovery which would include more H.G. Wells based rides (along with a return of TimeKeeper located between Mysterious Island and Port Discovery (the ride did include both authors)). A River Rapids in Kumandra (supposedly based on the story on how Raya stole Fang's Dragon Scroll) and also include an area based on the MCU or alter American Waterfront into an MCU version of New York (though personally I would prefer both an MCU area and American Waterfront instead of just getting one or the other (600 acres we have room for both)).
The rumor also said that there would also be an area based on Amphibia from the show... um Amphibia along with one based on the Boiling Isles from The Owl House though even the source of the rumor said to take this with a grain of salt. Also the Tower of Terror of DisneySea was apparently going to be replaced with the Eyrie Building from Disney's Gargoyles which would based more on Rise of the Resistance from Galaxy's Edge.
From what I heard the park would be located in the space located to the West of Epcot and South of Magic Kingdom and will likely be announced a year or so from now.
For anyone who wants to know this was posted in a since deleted video on DisneySea from someone who talked to a cast-member at Epcot who heard from a friend of a friend of someone who heard Disney's CEO talking about a new park. And again, even this person said to take this with a grain of salt. Though I have to admit if true, and let's be honest that's a BIG if, this would likely be a park that would be universally welcomed by fans and casual park goers as DisneySea in Disney World would be something that just about everyone could get behind.
I for one hope this is true and would love to hear ReviewTyme's thoughts on this. If anything I hope this rumor spreads like wildfire and Disney goes, "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea."

I really hope this isn't true (Giant chance that it isn't though, which I will explain down below). Every Disney park in a way is like an adventure, each has its own personality and charms to them. When you start to copy everything over from another already established park, you basically kill any personality, charm, and reason to go visit the other Disney park. It's kinda like America building a life-size replica of the Eifel Tower. It takes away from the original and will almost always be worse compared to the original. Tokyo Disney Sea is a great experience and that alone should be enough of a reason for Disney to not slap it in another Disney Resort.
Also, since Tokyo Disney is mainly owned and operated by OLC, they have the rights to the properties they put into their parks. From what I understand, they have an agreement with Disney to not allow anything in their parks to be copied or replicated in any other Disney park around the world. It's the reason why we haven't seen a Journey to the Center of the Earth, Trackless Winnie the Pooh, or any other attractions from Tokyo duplicated in any other Disney park.
On top of that, Disney World is also running out of space. Things might have changed since the 2010's, but they only have a limited amount of land they can actually develop in the Resort. They can build on about 50% of the land they own, given that they don't completely destroy a natural swamp or river. It's most likely the reason why Disney chose to destroy the old River Country space for their new (defunct) hotel instead of creating a new space within the swamp.
Another thing I want to point out is that the current Disney leadership wouldn't support this idea at all. Disney right now is purely focused on creating synergy with their IPs or in other words, finding a way to incorporate their movies and toys into their Parks. Some of the IPs you brought up don't make a whole lot of sense for Disney to incorporate, Raya apparently did not do well at the box office nor generate much popularity among the public compared to previous movies (at least from what I read) and Amphibia's 4th season was supposedly canceled by the suits. It doesn't make sense for them to drop those IPs into the park. If it was something on the lines of a Moana attraction or show I could more or less believe it.
I don't like watching ReviewTyme's videos too much mainly cuz they're a little too optimistic for me and they tend to overlook the smaller details, however, it would be interesting to hear their thoughts on the matter. Anyways, since this comment is long enough as it is, my main point is that
      1. I would be very upset if this were to happen
      2. The rumor doesn't match up with where the company is aligning itself currently
      3. There is a very low chance that this will ever happen

Thank you Kris for this very informative and entertaining presentation. As an aside it would have been great if you had included Tony Baxter’s idea for Discovery Bay as part of the evolution of the Port Disney project, which elements of Discovery Bay, made it to Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney Sea Parks. I ask because one of my favorite live action Disney Films is “Island at the Top of the World”, staring David Hartman and everyone’s favorite mystic Mako. Perhaps you could devote and entire presentation to “Island at the Top of the World” and how this film subsequently influenced a WDI to produce attractions at the Disney Parks worldwide. Thank you for this wonderful presentation.
