I’ve always really loved how much of a love letter to fans this intro animation is, I love returning to this trailer for fun to watch it again after I first saw it years ago right before the launch of Sonic Mania. I’ve always been a very casual Sonic fan since childhood since I’ve always been a hardcore Mario fan ever since I was a child, but I did always love watching Sonic X on cable Saturday mornings and I loved playing Sonic Rush on my DS when I was a little.

i grew up loving sonic and nothing had really done it for me like the earlier games had. there was a charm that it was missing in recent games. seeing sonic mania made me feel like i was a kid again and playing through the original 2D games. it honestly filled me with such joy and made me start loving sonic again. it's one of the games most dear to me

Sonic Mania started as a fan game called Sonic Discovery...they showed Studiopolis Act 1 to Sega and Sega asked them to work on it officially
It started as pitch to submit to Sega. If Sega didn't accept, they weren't going to keep working on it. There's nothing "Fan made" about this.

I've already heard that one a lot already. And besides, I have reason to believe that the true reason for Sonic being disliked isn't because of the "quality" of certain games, but rather because he is an anthropomorphic animal character instead of a human like every other video game hero nowadays, and there aren't any other animal characters in modern games for me to enjoy nowadays as well.

Picaachu I don't see why people say the fanbase is that bad. Sure that people who are part of the fanbase want their voices heard and insult other people's opinion (which is the same as every other fanbase, even nintendo) but each fanbase majority are nice people, like the people on sonic retro. Also the majority of sonic fans actually like the new sonic games (comparing the likes to dislikes ratio) and the people who hate the new sonic games or formula are the most vocal people.

I like how at the end the music stops with only a single note left and the villains menancingly looking over. It gives a creepy vibe but its also really cool

Animation of this quality takes a long time. Pumping it out for a show would be VERY difficult
Ehh not realy what you could call difficult because of the new animation technology that we have now,if you think making this into a show anime's have much of a longer and harder proccess,it's just the way you draw the characters that will determine the quality and difficulty.

Rewatching this, it’s actually quite clever, the elevator instead of showing only numbers, shows the initials of each game, 1,2,3,K, and M. And this game showed there was still a market for the classic games. Without it, we wouldn’t have gotten both Superstars and Origins
