- Today we review the Rigd Supply UltraSwing multi-fit tire carrier. As it is fitted to the Chevy Colorado ZR2. This is the swing-away tire carrier solution you may be looking for. The multi-fit tire carrier will work well for most Trucks, SUVs, and Crossovers with a 2" hitch.

Great info. Thanks for that. I have some constructive criticism......There was no mention if the spare can be locked to prevent theft. The license plate is obscured by the large tire and has no light. Yes I realize this falls under the same issue with the camera since the tire mount is universal. Just my 2 cents. Again, thanks for pointing out both pros and cons.
Snake Plisken License plate in my opinion was not obstructed. I had never had anyone make reference to it being obstructed. You are correct in saying that it did not have a light. And I’m sure our viewers would definitely find value in your comment. So I will pin it to the top. Thank you for coming to the channel and thank you for participating. It makes a difference. All the best.
thanks for posting this vid. i had no idea there was a product like this. great "modular" idea for a daily driven rig that goes offroad from time to time.
Awesome content! Thanks for all of your videos.
Jay. Thank you for your kind words. I know how much this content helps. No one else is really putting it out there.
Relocated my camera just now, easy peasy! Thanks for the video.
Hey Hudson. I’m super stoked it worked out for you. That’s why I created the channel. Thanks for following along.
This thing is awesome. Looks like I just added another part to my list!
Thanks for the info, I just got my ZR2 and I was looking for upgrades.
Krzy Thank you. I hope that this content brings some value. And helps you with your build.
I'm in the process of designing a hitch mounted tire carrier and I really appreciate your honesty in this review. I would love for you to review ours out once it hits the market.
Sounds great guys, lets set something up!
You always have great reviews. Thorough and well thought out. Truly enjoy your precision. If you want to off load your rig’d for retail price just let me know where to reach you. I live in SD. Looking for something sooner than later. 😉
Vehicle is for sale now. If you were truly interested can can find me on Instagram where we can connect More easily. @TrailadventuresTV.
Now that’s neat! Would have never thought of a tire carrier off a hitch.
Thank you my friend. Now you know we can’t let you jeep guys have all the fun. lol. Hope all is well buddy.
Good advice
Looks nice, finally some competition for the Wilco Hitchgate.
One of the owners his name is Luke. He actually used to work for Wilco. There are many products similarities.
Thanks for the honest breakdown David. We'll never stop innovating, so all feedback is much appreciated. This link may be helpful for your viewers looking for more information to make a decision on whether a full bumper/swingout or an UltraSwing is right for them www.rigdsupply.com/blogs/reviews/replacement-bumper-and-tire-carrier-vs-hitch-mounted-tire-carrier
Great review, you sold me on the cry once buy once for the CBI rear bumper.
You won’t be disappointed. Thanks for viewing! And always adventure!
Nice video! I’ve been looking at this product for my 4Runner. Once thing I noticed on your rig... you need to install your hitch pin on the factory hitch sleeve to help secure the swing out to the truck. That wedge alone isn’t sufficient to hold in the swing out... not to mention if you still wanted towed with it installed. Just an observation. 👍🏻
Thank you for the tip I’m sure others will find it very helpful. All the best.
I just installed the Mega Ultraswing on my 99 Lexus LX470 - it has an aftermarket Draw Tite hitch. The whole set up seems to stick out about a good 2 inches too far away from the truck. I have it pushed in as far as possible with also being able to align the pin holes. I like the way yours is tucked in pretty close to the truck. So far, it's top notch, just a bit disappointed to have it stick out so far.
It’s a very useful addition. But I took it off and moved the tire into the bed of my truck just in front of the axel. This gives me more balanced load. And less pendulum action at the rear
You'll also have to to update your suspension if you go with a CBI rear steel bumper. The ultra swing is a lot lighter. Can also remove the ultra swing if you want. Can't do that with CBI.
Roaming There are definitely pros and cons to both set ups. My rear suspension has already been updated. The ultra swing sticks too far out from the hitch to be a real off-road contender. In my honest opinion
Great vid, going with CBI
Kurt Klimisch Great choice. I will be installing their rear bumper as well. And I think I might even go with their complete skid plate system
@@TrailAdventuresTV I have reconsidered, I think putting a rear swing out on a pickup is putting too much weight to far from the rear axle. I think you are asking to bend your frame. Going to move my spare onto a rack above the bed in front of the rear axle.
I went with her complete skid plate system. But did not install the rear bumper for the same reasons. Have my tire in the back of the truck installed in front of the axle. Better weight distribution.
I have the Relentless fab bumpers with the swingout and I love it. Definitely pricey. I am actually interested in the overhead racks you have (cab and camper). I've seen the Victory offroad cab racks but not camper.
Victory off-road makes some very nice racks. The racks used on the ZR2 were manufactured by Prinsu designs. Not sure how they’re sitting on stock currently. But check out their website.
Thanks for watching.
I need a bumper with a swing arm for my Silverado any recommendations ?
Any information you can share regarding a light for the license plate would be helpful. Great video
Andy Proto I never put a light on my license plate. But I don’t drive late at night very often. I do know a lot of people had some success with this solar license plate light found on Amazon. Wow backup camera relocation who woulda' thunk.
Love it!! Ordering mine ASAP! Unless you sell me yours (& go CBI) ...
It’s a Krazy Beaver shovel (not Angry Beaver) 😎👍🏻
Hi zamboni68. If your local, I will definitely sell it to you. And thank you for correcting my mistake. I keep telling the producer of these videos that we need Q-cards. 😂😂
Trail Adventures USA - nope, Ohio. How badly do you want the CBI rear bumper though? 🤪🤣
Can you tell me what you needed to purchase to relocate the back up camera, bracket/housing? I have the exact set up and am curious.
You’ll see when you remove your camera that it’s actually installed in the same bracket that I utilized and attached to the ultra swing. No need to purchase anything unless you want to make a custom modified bracket yourself.
Must be nice to have the money to purchase, all that cool stuff.
Thanks for visiting the channel. I don’t have much. But I am grateful to God for what I do have. I have been working since I was 15 years old. I’m finally at an age in my life where I can finally start to enjoy some of the fruits of those labors.
What did you use to plug the camera hole?
How did you mount the back up camera?
Thanks
They sell round chrome caps at Home Depot and Lowe’s for that!
Does the cutting surface of your all weather cutting board get dusty and dirty after being on the trail?
Yes, very much so. We carry water to clean it up before use.
Did you have any issues positioning your 35" tire so you can still access the rear window of the bed when the tire is in the closed position?
No issues at all.
I have the 2019 ZR2 Bison Diesel and just purchased the Rigd swing out. The issue I have is my back up camera relocation can you tell me how you actually took out the original and moved it? Instead of removing it can you disconnect it and plug in a new camera ? And do you know what pin connector is used so I can plug.and play? Thanks by the way what year is your ZR2?
Hi Mitch.
Congratulations on that bison. That thing must be a beast. If I remember correctly, I remove the panel off of the back of the tailgate to access the camera and it’s wiring. I then remove the wiring from the tailgate completely all the way down below the bed near the bumper. I then removed the camera from its stock location And relocated it onto the tire swing. To be honest with you it was kind of lame but it worked. So I wouldn’t be able to help you with regard to the connector. That one you would have to research at your local Chevy dealer, parts counter.
LOOKS good-- hangs close to the vehicle too- insteAD OF 4 INCHES OR MORE BETWEEN THE TIRE AND THE VEHICLE.
What straps did you use to secure the shovel to the UltraSwing?
Quick fist shovel mount
Trail Adventures USA, will that hold a 37" tire? I would be interested in it if you would like to sell it and purchase a cbi bumper. I'm located in Riverside Ca. (So Cal)
salvador michel I am pretty sure that it will hold a 37 inch tire. But to be sure you should reach out to the guys over at rigd supply. There info was in the description.
The tire carrier has already been sold to one of our subscribers.
I just bought it for a 37 and you should contact rigd. They informed me to order and offset
Is that your OEM back up cam and what did you do to install it on the mount. I'm a beginner
Just pulled the camera and camera mounting bracket out of the tailgate drilled a couple of holes into the ultra swing and mounted it.
ALL of the points you have addressed as "cons" are easily overcome. If an individual is going to be using a product of this type on a vehicle that has been modified to enhance their off road experience, then they should have some type of mechanical inclination on how to improve upon their purchase. If not, then I would recommend a Toyota Prius or just stick to the mall and have a AAA Gold Membership. They will probably need it.
Yeah, I guess you’re right Ernest. Nobody makes a perfect product anyways. But they are definitely making improvements over there with the ultra swing.
The camp table went up in price. It's like 300 now.
Wow! not worth it
That’s another great choice.
A year late reviewing this. Did you have to purchase a relocation kit for the camera?
It was not available at the time of purchase. I had to make my own.
@@TrailAdventuresTV Where did you find the wire and connectors?
Also, just a FYI. The carrier I just put on my ZR2 now comes with license plate mount with light and harness. Thank again for your video.
The wire that connects to the camera is pretty long. I just took the wiring out from the inside of the tailgate down past the bed and then extended it out to the bumper. No connectors or cables needed. I fabricated my own camera head mount out of a piece of aluminum.
That ultraswing is pricey but I like it.
I only tow and take care of expensive sailboats
1600 dollars no I'll copy it and build it for less than a houndred 100
Nice but $$$$$
