How To Reset Key FOB After Changing Battery (Resync a Key Fob)

- In today's quick tutorial I show you how to reset key fob after changing battery as well as resetting key fob after battery change.
Most modern vehicles has key fobs these days. They are great for locking or unlocking and sometimes starting your vehicle. However, they run on a battery and when the battery or batteries die, you will need to replace the batteries in your key fob to get get it working again. However, sometimes, if you replace the battery and you key fob is not working as it should, you will have to perform a key fob reset. Resetting the key fob should be done after changing the batteries. In this video, I show you the easy process to resetting your key fob so it works again as it should.

Yes, didn't work for my 2014 vw jetta, new fob, same kèy. If that makes a difference. Horn did blow while cycling key in door. Thanks for your prompt msg, always a plus .
8 MONTHS! Thats how long I suffered with these freaking key fobs having to constantly remove the key to unlock the door & push the fob hard into the push button to start my car. I thought it was weird that both fobs died at the same time when I only use one and keep the other in a drawer for service use only, but I changed both batteries and still nothing. CZcamsd back then but sadly never was shown YOUR VIDEO. Could’ve saved me 8 months of aggravation. Found this last night and just tried it and lo & behold I heard the sweet sweet sound that I haven’t heard in months, BEEP BEEP.

It works! I had made an appointment with the local Audi stealer (I only go there for recalls and a new remote fob) before seeing this video. When I bought the new fob, it took them nearly 3 hrs despite telling them I didn’t want a 1000 point checkup and a list of their favorite service jobs. It’s gonna feel so good to cancel!

You are brilliant. I could lock my car but for a couple of years I could not get into it without opening the windows first. I have been told by garages to have all the solenoids replaced . Two minutes after watching your video everything is working perfectly. I just got both batteries replaced and one didn't work. Guy referred me to the local safe and key shop to reset the fob... I searched youtube and you saved me 💰💰! Thanks

Just purchase a 2nd hand car to replace mine which was stolen. The new one has a Key fob which needed batteries replaced. Replace 1 and it worked fantastic. However, I replaced the 2nd and neither worked.

Darn, I have a 2007 Ford Taurus & it didn't work
From the bottom of my heart thank you so so much. I took my 2019 Buick enclave to the dealership because I was having trouble with the remote start. They switched out my car battery then said that my remote wasn’t working. They said that the remote wasn’t getting signal from the car receiver and that I needed a new receiver. Luckily, the part was not in stock and they had to order it so I took my vehicle back home having to manually open it with the key. I got on CZcams and did my own research and thank God I found you. They wanted to charge me over $500 for a receiver. Again I appreciate you thank you so much for posting this video. You’re a great man.

All I can say is WOW and Thank You soooo much! I was getting ready to head to the dealership and spend several hundred dollars. I was doing a Google search and it led me to your video. I showed my husband your video and he tried it. We weren't sure if it did anything at first but noticed the change after we had turned the car on and back off a couple of hours later when we went out to dinner. It worked! He turned the key in the door just as you demonstrated. No more issues with my key fob , I have a 2018 Infinity QX60 by the way.

I can’t tell u how much trouble I had with my fob. Would not start 2:31 , alarm would go off. It was a nightmare. Bought new batteries for it, took car to manufacturer and told I need an auto-electrician to fix it etc etc. Found your clip and thought I’d give it a try. IT WORKED! Thank you so much. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Can you tell me how you solved the problem?
I have a F56 Mini Cooper Jcw which is also a BMW, I changed the battery in the key and I can only start the car by touching the key to the steering column.
Key buttons don't work
Did you turn the auxiliary key on the handle up and down eight times?

Key has been acting finicky for a few months now and the fob stopped working entirely today. Figured it was a dead battery so I changed it and still nothing. This fixed the issue with my 2009 VW Rabbit, thank you!

Was thinking of taking it back to the dealership since they just serviced it recently but was thinking they might charge me for that. Thank you my brother! Saved me a trip to the shop! And STRAIGHT TO THE POINT! Worked on my 2014 Toyota Camry. My doors would no longer open by remote. Originally I thought my battery was dead. But was NOT the case. Maybe after rambling in my pocket all day long the key messes up or something. They should make these keys with (covers) so the buttons can NOT be easily pushed while in your pocket.

Did you turned the key 6 times from the driver side door ? or is there a different amount for Toyota ? Did you also did for ignition key hole in the glove compartment ?
It's not working on my 2014 Camry. I changed out the battery, so I know that's not the issue. I tried to turn the key 6-8 times and still nothing. 😢

You saved me a trip to Nissan for my 2015 Altima (Note: In my car, I did have to “wiggle” the key about 6 to 8 times (key does not rotate fully in any direction) - afterwards, everything worked as normal.) Thanks for your help!!

@@era3032 try just pushing the tip of the key fob against the start button for a few seconds and sew if it starts the car. That's how I did it on my old optima

@@era3032 not that I’ve found. But, rotating the key in the door lock (not full rotations- more like jiggling from left to right) 6 to 8 times reset the car to the key fobs. I also put new batteries in the key fobs before giggling the lock (driver’s side front door).

My fob suddenly dies. I guess its battery is dead so i replace battery and of course fob still dead. I search internet up and down how to program the fob. I went as far as buying techstream usb cable and spent all day register the key. Everything fails and my last resort is buying a new fob before bring it to the dealer when i give up eventually . And i “ accidentally “ found your video. I can’t believe it when i turn the key 6 times and magically the key comes back to life. Thanks so much for your kindness sharing this amazing knowledge.

CZcams has gotten so convoluted you can't find what you are looking for anymore. Even when you type in exactly what you need. I kept getting battery replacements. No where in my search did I type the word battery replacement. This also works for most Hyundai cars too!

If anyone is still having issues, try also removing the battery, tapping LIGHTLY on the motherboard, then re-inserting the battery. I did this after performing the steps in this video, as my LED was still flashing, and viola it worked

2018 Nissan Altima key on the door worked. The fob did not connect, so I just had to sit inside and start the ignition button to start the engine. Everything else connected without having to reset except the radio stations. Thanks a million.

Wow I was about to drop $150 on a new FOB for 2019 Acura MDX. After battery replacement no lights were happening. Found a different video to start the car with dead fob battery (also good to know) This one got me to get it back and working. Whew.!!!!

Wow! Yet another option I could try. I will be replacing my battery's for my Trax fobs for the first time. However, I'm a little worried that it may be something that needs a lot of money to fix if a simple battery change doesn't work. Warning ⚠️ for Kia (and likely Hyundai too):
If dome lights (room lamps) aren't working, then the smart key won't work in remote mode because the 10A room lamp (odd name) fuse is blown. Replace the 10A fuse and your smart key will work again.
I know: stupid logic, but 100% facts

turning the key in the door 8 times worked for a 2017 Tacoma, found out after trying some procedures that were so goofy I thought they were made up.

No, didn't work for my 2008 Toyota ractis. So I rang a locksmith who said put emblem of key on starter button and away she started. They said you don't actually need a battery in the fob to do this! Woohoo, away I go on my way again!!😊

Ya but that only works 2x it's for emergency only my daughter has my old car n ive had to have her do it. She changed rhe battery cuz alarm kept going off from her going in and out n locking it too many times at once and she's now locked out. I just had her try this vid 6x hers is push button looking for an I side key hole.now hers is a sonada so I know u can only hold it to steering area twice my mazda was like that too. After that you won't get it started until u reset fob.
2016 Ford Taurus- the key in door didn't work. Now I was playing with my flipper Zero so maybe I caused another problem. I'm off to find the manual key option inside my glove box.

i have a 2016 jeep cherokee, and the 6 turns on the door did not work for me. I then took the key and turned the car on in the ignition (not push to start, but used plastic key fob, not metal key) and then it reset and now locks. Thank you!

Swapped the battery in my key fob for my 2018 Honda Fit, since my dash kept telling me the battery in it was low. Now the key fob buttons don't work. I can for some reason still turn the car on, if I put the key fob up to the push start button as I press it. But then the dash warns me that no key fob is detected, although it still lets me drive like this. Very strange, imo, but I'm no mechanic.

You're welcome! Unless your brake pads are really worn down, you may just have some dust on the rotors. Try going like 20mph and then slam on the brakes if it's safe to do so. Do it a couple times. Sometimes this gets the dust off!
