To remove knobs from the pots all you need is a flat head screwdriver. Cover the tip with a small piece of tape and flatten to the shape of the tip. Then use that taped tip to slowly pop each knob off. Takes a second to remove each. You can also clean the 1/4 tsr inch jacks easily. Just add some 99% rubbing alcohol (can buy on Amazon cheap) to a cloth/paper towel. Make sure you add a good amount to soak into the cloth/paper towel. Then vigorously rub clean a 1/4 inch cable tip with the alcohol soaked cloth/paper towel. Take that dampened tip and insert into the jack. Turn it clockwise and counter clockwise a few times quickly. Remove the cable. Wipe the tip again with the alcohol soaked cloth. Repeat the process. Wipe the tip again with the cloth to clean any residual dirt that may still be in the jack. This can be done without removing any panels on the mixer. Safe to do as long as you do not pour any alcohol into any jacks/ports on the mixer. Simply use the alcohol to apply to the cloth used within the method I described above. Works every time!

I was looking for a good example for cleaning my little mixer, which is the exact model you using here. VERY good video with no unnecessary examples. One observation, using the D5 cleaner on switches is fine, but most repair geeks suggest to only use F5 on pots - it does not remove conduction material from the swipe surface. Thank you very much for this fine post!!

excellent advice there :) one thing i noticed with these mackie mixers is the buttons always get crap in them and for some reason its always the selector button row for the monitoring which is on the signal path output.the dust just seems to go right down into them.
