  • THE INCREDIBLE RIVO DIGITAL QUILT
    Created by Master Digitographer
    Richard Marvin Voigt - RIVO
Richard Marvin Voigt (RIVO) is a Wisconsin born artist, author, educator, film-maker and inventor. His artistic creations were redirected from traditional forms of art to digital art in 1987. Fascinated by the powerful potential of his newly built computers, they afforded him unlimited flexibility in creating and designing compositions that soon began to satisfy his personal passion for digital art.
As he became more adept in handling software functions, he began experimenting with complex pixel restoration, archiving thousands of family photographs, old slides and documents; bringing each back to their original quality. Throughout his life, he has taken hundreds of thousands of photographs and created thousands of original works of art that lead to experimentations in creating his Digital Quilt.
Each digital quilt composition is an abstract kaleidoscopic rendering of a person, place or object in the artist’s life. The reoccurring theme he set for his quilt, places an emphasis on line, color and texture that often create optical illusions that play with perceptions; some advance while others retreat in his spatial and colorful compositions. With over 1400 compositions in this incredible digital quilt collection, when placed end-to-end the entire canvas quilt spans the length of over fourteen (14) professional football fields.
He has always admired the intricacy of hand-sewn quilts but wanted to create one on a grand scale using his unique approach. Just as each traditional quilt tells a story, so does each section of his quilt. Each 38” x 38” canvas quilt section can be placed contiguously up a wall, continue across ceilings, around corners and even constructed into shapes that can hang from the ceiling or connect on the floor in the form of a three-dimensional maze.
Many of these digital compositions capture the symmetrical wonders found growing in the prolific Wisconsin garden oasis his wife Lynn and he have created. Since they began sharing their garden on CZcams with over 1,000 video productions, their garden has now been seen by millions of avid gardeners from 132 countries.
This rare glimpse into one of RIVO’s thematic galleries is an intriguing insight into the creative mind of an artist who passionately explores non-traditional approaches in art while exploring new technology layered with a sense of eastern and western philosophy. If you appreciate and respect a creative mind, then this rare colorful collection will please and inspired your love for balance and metaphoric reflection.

Hi Dennis, how sweet of you to check on us. We are both well and busy and drinking our refreshing Sprechers. I love their lemonade now too. As you can see from this video, Richard has been consumed with Art for many months now.
He is researching and using AI to create artwork and preparing for a community educational talk regarding AI and all the good it can do. As a result, I am doing the gardening and he is doing his creative work.
We truly appreciate that you watch our videos and checked in on us. Thank you so much. Lynn & Richard www.WisconsinGarden.com

Hi Ron and Cheryl, thank you for your kind comment. Since Richard does all the hard stuff to create our videos, it has been a long time since we published one. He has embarked on an art project now which takes up most of his time. This video is just a tiny bit of what he is doing. Perhaps we will do some updates in the future too.
Take care and thanks for watching, caring and sharing. Lynn & Richard www.WisconsinGarden.com

This is so amazing Richard that I had to watch it twice. For the viewer make sure that you pause at 4:38 so you understand how complex this is. When I watched it the second time I turned off the volume and slowed the speed to .75 and of course I used the pause button too. You are a very unique artist and extremely intelligent. I struggle with computer basics! Thanks for sharing how you use AI and language to create this. Of course I love your delightful gardening videos with Lynn too.

Hello Cindy, what a lovely comment. We are so grateful for letting us know your feelings. Your tips about viewing Richard's quilt video show how much you enjoyed it.
Richard spends weeks putting videos like this together. He sets up the format in a certain way with just so much time to squeeze in his vision. For you to take the time to let him know how you viewed it makes it all worth while.
His normal garden videos take lots of work as well and we are glad you enjoy them also.

@@WisconsinGardenMaking one square must be a labor of love. How long do you work to create one digital square? I also love the sound track. By the way, I reopened the initial notification bell to see your response or I would have never known you replied back. It was not marked with the blue dot. I use to get notifications direct to my email from Lynn. I did use the above blue link and it took me to your site and I will try to communicate directly there. Social media can be puzzling.

Hi April, so sorry you have critters eating everything. We seem to have a chipmunk or many that aren't eating anything yet, just digging up the soil right next to plants. Yes, I will be setting traps up for them. Take care, enjoy the weekend. Thanks for watching, caring and sharing. Lynn & Richard www.WisconsinGarden.com

    That’s a lotta digital quilts!😂. Great job!
They remind me of a couple of things-meditation medallions and a kaleidoscope. I used to use a clear kaleidoscope and it would pick up all the colors and mix them and used it to pick colors for quilting.
    Nice!

Hi Angie, thank you. This is Richard's digital quilt. It is all done on his computer, using images he has created. Some times he uses his own photos, some times he uses other images that he has modified, enhanced and transformed.
He is glad you enjoyed them. They can be any size he chooses and then prints. At this time, he is not selling them, just enjoying them and creating a collection. Thank you.

Hope all is well up in Wisconsin, we’ve had cold spells here in NE Georgia , then it warms again. Nice rain yesterday, we were extremely dry. There have been wildfires in the western North Carolina mountains. Praying they are under control now. Just wanted to say hello and hope that you have a nice a nice Thanksgiving!

Hello, Craig, the weather this year has been so wild, we hope you and yours have been able to do well regardless of it. It has been crazy here to with temperature fluctuations from snow on Halloween and 70's at the beginning of November. It is now about normal with 40's and 30's and we have had several frosts so our gardens are now sleeping, happily.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and friends. Stay healthy and safe, do something fun every day. Keep the love growing. Lynn & Richard www.WisconsinGarden.com
