It didn't take you long to get back :-). I've even used a tough umbrella that I would stow in the cockpit. My favorite for a kayak is just a long wind-sock like they used to use at airports to indicate wind direction. It's low, and if you attach a cord to the inside "toe" of the sock, you can pull it in quickly. Dorky, but works fine. doesn't flop around like those high-profile sails.
I'm trying to decide between the sport and the advanced frame advanced. I am leaning towards the sport as it's lighter and I'll take public transit with it sometimes, but I am worried about water getting into the boat more in the sport like in this video. Do you think the advanced model thats $100 more and red and has a smaller hole to sit in would be much better for keeping water out? I'll be using it for fishing, sometimes in the ocean. Thanks
Ron Hi Ron, the Sport and the Advanced Frame have the same size entry cockpit. The main difference in the Advanced Frame is the inflatable combing and forward and aft zippers. Other than that they are the same. Hope that helps
Fred Frond Yes Fred, it was ugly out there that day. They had small craft alerts out for that morning, but like and idiot I went out anyway. Thanks for watching
@@DaleMrDSimmons Yep, I went out with a risk-taker (a friend) when the red flags were up in Newport Beach, CA. The swells & tops were enormous. We used his 1950s vintage East German Pouch 2 seater. Sails would have been a no-no. People were shouting at us 'get out, get out!" but my buddy was enjoying himself too much in the roller-coaster ride. The Pouch RZ85 was awesome. I think the boat enjoyed it even more than we. I think they started making those folding kayaks again, same design. Yep, I searched RZ85, and there Germans still make them, and there are videos. My pal's died after 60-70 years! czcams.com/video/cF5LegsNmk8/video.html
It's reasonably priced. The conditions do not look unsafe to me. They seem to be the very conditions in which one would use such an accessory - to take advantage of the wind, that is. Perhaps, the kayak is not stable enough?
Yes there are cheaper ones out their. But the quality and workmanship on this one far surpasses the lesser cost ones. The clear windows are of a really higher grade and provides more visibility. I know I had the cheaper one and sent it back. If you think you will use it often then this is the one you should consider.
Jack Fisher that’s why I do these type videos. To give potential customers a look at something and let them make their own decision if it’s something for them or not. It’s not a must have I guess it’s just a fun thing. Thanks for watching.

You should already show us how you attached it to your kayak instead of just telling us. Just saying.
Great video it was nasty out there. When the wind is strong like it was I would suspend too.

You forgot your mic. Waves sound nice though.
Looks useful
It’s fun but can’t tac
nice does that work with most models??
James Purdie Yes with some connections point mods it even worked on a hard kayak.
@@DaleMrDSimmons love it. Now to get one. Looks sold out
James Purdie you can find one here www.westmarine.com/buy/advanced-elements--rapidup-kayak-sail--11842036
You need a rudder in that kayak to make that product more useful.
Jose Diaz I agree my other inflatable has a rudder system however, that kayak is so much smaller the paddle works just fine.
I am considering buying this product but it has a 100 price tag so I will do some more research before buying. Thanks for the review.

Need camera close. , can't see what you are doing.

To me looks like wasted money.
