    Lessons not learned. Today we have history repeating itself.

    He was right. Unfortunately his warning was not heeded

    He knew he was not going to get the nomination. As such, he said what was on his mind. In effect, an honest politician as politicians go. Our world of today would most benefit from a man of principles like Governor Rockefeller. Unfortunately I don’t think that such a political with enough backing exists. Godspeed America into this tumultuous 2024 presidential election race. May we ( I pray) still stand united after the fact.

    Lbj vs Rockefeller would have been great historic election

    Wow. This is convention occurred shortly after the signing of the 1964 civil rights bill, when the Democratic Party lost much of the South to the Republicans.

      @fshoaps Před rokem +4

      It didn't have to be like that though - if the Republicans nominated Rockefeller, the South wouldn't vote for Rocky over LBJ.

    The birth of MAGA

    • @susanmullen8648
      @susanmullen8648 Před rokem

      Not so. If anything, it was birth of Tea Party. MAGA was mainly the existing Tea Party which began in 2009 in desperation because GOP hated them, wanted Dem agenda incl. open borders, US was one-party system. In Nov. 2010 Trump noticed the Tea Party gave the GOP House a massive, landslide victory. (This infuriated the GOP). In 2011, Trump began speaking to Tea Party groups. He was even asked about his connection to Soros in 2011, but Trump said, "leave him alone, he's having tough times now." In any case, MAGA ceased to exist the day after Trump was elected in 2016 when he made Jared de facto pres.. Jared had last word for 4 yrs. Just as the large, millionaire Tea Party groups were co-opted by the GOP on day one, so MAGA was co-opted by GOP on day 1.

    Rockefeller was no republican. He was a democrat in republican clothing. Good thing he never even came close to getting nominated.

      The Rockefellers had been Republicans going back three generations. They were of course bourgeois, whereas the overwhelming majority of Republicans only think they will be bourgeois one day, but nevertheless.
