As an American, I don't play west African drum patterns very well on my djembe drum. These patterns are hard wired, not unlike language patterns in children during pre and post adolescent. Like languages, I can acquire it, but my ability to code switch and develop the language is limited. I am best at playing American musical patterns on my djembe drum. That's life.😊
