  • Video about the Orca Dolmen, located in Fiais da Telha, in the parish of Oliveira do Conde, in the municipality of Carregal do Sal. This is the most important and well-preserved of the megalithic monuments that make up the Fiais/Azenha Prehistoric Circuit, which includes various dolmens, rock engravings and habitats.
This area of the Beira Alta region, located on the north bank of the Mondego River, has been inhabited since the Neolithic period by human communities who subsisted through herding, moving seasonally to the Estrela Mountain Range region in search of pasture for their animals.
There have been various attempts to explain the reasons behind the construction of dolmens like this one, but the definitive answers may lie in its builders' way of life and their relationship with the landscape, the seasons and the night sky.
The Orca Dolmen has been classified as a National Monument since 1974.
English and Portuguese subtitles are available.
