  • This yoga class is to help gain hip flexibility. These hip opening stretches for tight hips are also great for releasing hip tension and stress within the body. Although this class is focused on releasing the hips and gaining flexibility, hip openers are a great way to ease the mind by releasing stagnant energy within the hips. This is a restorative calming beginner friendly yoga class that is great to practice before bed or to simply end the day.

    there's something so comforting and relieving about how you end every video the same way. it's that sense of familiarity, of "oh! i knew this was going to happen!" that makes it so nice. i also love how you use the word "optional" so much. it makes the practice seem a lot more personal and gives me a sense of relief because i know i don't have to follow every pose or movement to a t. your videos and practices are wonderful, thank you so much for putting them out into the universe!

    My right hip has been super tight - so much so that I can't even sit crossed-legged without pain. I'm starting a job next week teaching preschool and elementary school music where I will need (& want!) to be sitting on the floor with the students. I'm doing your hip flexibility stretches this week to help me get ready, and have more mobility (& less pain) after only this one video! So, thank you.     Your commentary helps guide me into doing these poses properly, really feel the tension let go.Forgot how happy baby can be a self back massage. Using cat/cow to move freely was very nice as well.

    What a beautiful, gentle practice! I tend to alternate between strength focused classes and the ultimate stillness of yin yoga, but this was such a lovely movement practice!

    I absolutely love your yoga videos - they really help me! since pain/trauma can be stored in the body, I normally have to focus even more on my breathing/self than usual when I'm using yoga to release tension. If you could maybe make some with minimal instruction, I think that it'd be really helpful to people like me that need quiet when they're releasing negative emotion. Have a wonderful day

    There are much better yoga poses for hip opening than what was shown here. No pigeon or pigeon modifications or frog . This is more for a beginner, some who has never stretched or done joint mobilization ever before.

      Hi john, I have many classes with the poses you just mentioned, i like to create various classes that can be complimentary to the others..not every class must have pigeon pose. I create classes mostly for beginners and take pride on being able to offer accessible yoga. It also states that it is beginner friendly class within the description :). Hope you can explore the other routines i offer rather than trying to tell the world there are "much better" hip opening poses than the ones shown here, i'd like to touch base on that not being accurate because for some, this is enough and a great place to start, for others who may want more intermediate postures...they may find an intermediate class more rewarding. Also, I have been rehabbing my hip for what seems like forever for tightness. The video was recommended to me by a Reddit algorithm. There is definitely value in the flow you present in the video. I do have a few things I do religiously every night to help me sleep better, I have suffered from insomnia and anxiety and my nighttime routine has become something super important to me and I’d be happy to share!

    Love the sessions. Are their any videos you can recc specifically for sciatic nerve relief? I’m recovering from a horrible thrown back/pinched nerve but still have pain around hip joint and to the right of L4/L5 area (all right side). Thx!

      Something that has always help me with sciatica is a yoga block under my hips and just rocking gently side to side. However always ask your doctor if something is okay to do as I don’t know the exact extent to your thrown back and sciatica.

    Random question when doing happy baby and holding your knees in is your back neutral?

      Oops i left a comment thinking you were talking about child’s pose. Major brain fart. No the spine isn’t neutral in happy baby as the low back will tend to press into the mat. The spine in neutral is when the spine sits in its natural state without over arching or rounding.

      This might be a bit difficult if you are lacking flexibility or mobility. Check out my 30 class yoga series specifically created for Inflexible people to help them gain flexibility 😊 there are many hip classes in there I think you may enjoy however if this class isn’t to intense for you by all means go for it 🙌😊

    When I’m doing the pose where I’m laying on my back with one leg outstretched and the other with my knee to my chest and turn to the side, the pain in the front of my hip (top of my thigh) is so bad I almost starting crying. Is that bc my hip is tight and just needs to be stretched out or am I harming myself by doing this?

      Hey! You should never do anything that causes you pain. Yoga isn’t about feeling pain it’s about feeling good and every pose won’t be for everyone. Try my playlist for inflexible people. This playlist offers many modifications however if you still feel pain after modifying simply skip the pose and do something that feels best.
