- This is my version of a week in the life as an Auxiliar de Conversación in L'Alfas del Pi, Spain. I wanted to show everyone how I've been spending my weeks since I moved to Spain. The Valencian language is very common here so I used transitions that included English, Spanish and Valencian. I hope that you enjoy the video.

Your days in the classroom seem so amazing 🥰 I’m glad to see that you’re getting more acclimated! Your conversation with the older man who visited Newport News reminded me of how small the world is but we’re all still connected so much, as travel taught me :)) I enjoyed this video and like the day-by-day layout 👌🏾
Thank you! I definitely thought that it was meant to be when the man said that he had visited my home town in America. I felt like I needed to be there at that moment.
“I felt like I needed to be there at that moment” = a WORD! Divinity at its finest 🙌🏾 Claudia Dockery
Ooooh I love this new format! Looks amazing!
Thank you, I'm trying new things these days.
this is exactly the content I was looking for!! I recently heard back about my regional placement (Valencia as well) I had put Madrid or Catalunya as my top choices (I figured being a black woman in bigger cities would be safer haha) so I'm really excited to see you and your friends living in Valencia --ive subscribed and ill give your ig a follow as well :)
If you have any questions feel free to DM me on Instagram. Thanks for subscribing!
Valencia is a big city (3rd largest in Spain)
Ella Vee She might not be placed in the city though.
@@broccolihighkicks3857 i wont be working in Valencia, thecity i will be in is significantly smaller than what im used to!
Love your video! So helpful (: I was wondering What time you start/finish teaching every day? Does the time you finish working vary or change at all throughout the week?
It depends on the school. My schedule was extremely relaxed. I would get to work around 8:30. The school day started at 9:00 and I would get on the bus home every day at around 1:15-1:30. I worked with four classes a day and worked 4 days a week. I know some people who would work later but had a lunch break where they could go home in the middle of the day. So it really depends.
I'm nervous about the lesson planning part! How did you know what to include, how long it should be, how much student interaction, did you give homework, etc? Also, was it clear what they teacher wanted you do or did you just kind of wing it? TIA!
Hmm I might have to make a video. But usually the teachers will let you know. Each teacher and school is different though.
Hey!! I recently applied to the auxiliares program and put Madrid as my first choice! How do you enjoy living in Spain? Will you be renewing your contract?
I am debating on renewing my contract. Now that I’ve truly adjusted I love the country and the people. And being that you applied to madrid you shouldn’t have many problems with payment like I did at the beginning while living in Valencia. The only thing is it’s a lot more expensive in Madrid.
Hey how are you maintaining your hair? Do you know of black hair care salons in your area?
I did not see this. I brought a lot of products from home. However, they say that there are natural hair salons in major cities. My closest major cities were Alicante and Valencia so I was actually looking before this lockdown happened.
What were your hours on a daily basis? I been reading that schools have long breaks in the middle of the day making the day longer. Do you know the hours for other grades? If were looking to be let out around 2, which grade would you suggest us teaching?
Everything depends on the school. My school let me choose to work with every class once a week from 1st -5th. My schedule was strictly 9-2 but I had friends who had breaks in the middle of the day for lunch then had to go back to school.
@@CatchingClaudia Did any of them teach high school or were they all younger grades? Also were they in valencia? Also did you have payment issues in Valencia? People keep telling me i may want to avoid that region for that particular reason, but im stuck between their and Andalucia.
czcams.com/video/CdlyYgZ6L8Y/video.html here is my video on the payment. The people that I knew when I was there were doing elementary however I might make another video with my friends who are there now and I think one does hs. Don’t forget to subscribe.
Do you need teaching experience before this program? I'm interested but I don't have any experience in front of a classroom and dont really have any idea what i would be doing lol
When you apply you talk about your experiences with teaching. I talked about my volunteering with students in the past. I don’t think that you need a ton of experience, but you can use different examples of how you think that you’ll be a good fit. It doesn’t have to be traditional.
On your application, did you check mark primary AND Secondary schools?
I did. I wanted to make mine as flexible as possible.
Hello :) Just wondering do you use powerpoint presentations for your lessons usually? How is it set up? Thank you!
I used powerpoint a lot and downloaded videos into them.
Claudia Dockery cool! Thank you
I am in Madrid and valencia looks like so much fun! How can I switch to valenciaaa
Hi how much do you save? Do I need to bring a laptop
I definitely recommend bringing a laptop. It really depends on where you live but at bare minimum $1500 and probably more than that.
Hi friend you sweet possabul relationnship
Hi,is it true that aux will be given two-year contract? What other options will you make to stay longer in Spain?
I don’t think that they give a two year contract up front but they do allow you to renew your contract.
Claudia Dockery thanks claudia!😊
Hi! Did u speak any Spanish going there? Or just knowing English is okay?
I feel like you can manage without, but outside of school Spanish is necessary. I wasn’t confident speaking at first, but I picked it up pretty fast.
