Abp. Georg Ganswein has my deepest respect. I look forward to reading his new book. Any friend of Pope Benedict has to be a very good and holy man. God bless him for treating Pope Benedict with so much honor, and he wants to set the record straight regarding Pope Benedict. I so admire him for that!

As an Orthodox priest I always had great love and respect for Pope Benedict. One could sense he was a man faithful to his calling as he understood it. His Jesus of Nazareth trilogy is of profound importance to me as I journey closer to the heart of my Savior.

I don’t know about this. He attempted a innovation that has brought the Church into serious trouble and seemingly out of his own vanity. He attempted to make it possible for a Pope to retire as if the Pope were just the Bishop of Rome. Now and until we have a Magisterium that is clearly validly constituted to rule on this issue, we have to live under the spiritual oppression of not knowing if the current Pope is actually the Pope or not. Until this is ruled upon, we have to treat Bergoglio as if he is really the Pope even in face of the so much apparent evidence to the contrary.
Now, I am aware that he called it a “resignation,” but no Pope before him ever attempted to do this. Even just in modern times, Pope Paul VI was so crushed by the weight of the office it rendered him immobile by the end-he could barely function and intentionally put the grave decisions facing him on the next Pope. Why didn’t ever occur to Pope Paul that he could just retire becoming a “Pope Emeritus” so those decisions needn’t be deferred and he needn’t suffer any further? So my question is, why did he need to hold to the title of Pope if he was really such a holy man?

This is the first interview he granted in English. His Excellency, Archbishop Dr. Georg Ganswein should have been rewarded with the elevation to the College of Cardinals for his dedication and loyalty to Cardinal Ratzinger/Pope Benedict XVI for 28 years (20 years as his secretary), 10 years as Prefect of the Pontifical Household for Francis, and many years as St. John Paul II's personal Chaplain. There hasn't been anyone in recent history who worked with TWO popes simultaneously. I am convinced that he will return to the Vatican when a new pope is elected. The Archbishop did nothing wrong to Pope Francis and was diplomatic towards him in the book. Francis also "cancelled" Pope Benedict's second secretary, Archbishop Alfred Xuereb, the former nuncio to South Korea and Mongolia. Both are now Archbishops without a task. It is a shame that Francis is "cancelling" those who were close to Pope Benedict XVI.

It is unfortunate that some Catholics have chosen politics over the teachings of Jesus Christ. Where is our humility? We should be praying for the Pope and the Church and not fueling division. Only God knows the heart of each person, including those of the two popes and anyone else in the church hierarchy. We cannot purport to know more than God and are definitely not qualified to judge any of them not unless you are insinuating that God was wrong in choosing any of them. Are you really worthy to do that?

Every interview I see with Archbishop Gänswein I admire him more. I think he has been a blessing to Benedict. Ratzinger could not have found a more loyal person than this good man. And contrary to what many say all the time, Gänswein has always been very human in looking at the differences between Benedict and Francis, not at all sensationalist or divisive. As he says in his book, the big problem was the extremist "follower groups" of each of the popes. Christians follow Christ, not Popes. I keep Benedict's phrase: the most important thing a Pope has to do is to be a witness to the faith, to be a good shepherd, to love Christ and the Church, and each Pope has to carry this forward with his own personality, from his own biography. I am glad that the Archbishop has a good spiritual director, it could not be otherwise! That's wonderful, I say that from experience. Thank you for the interview and God bless Archbishop Gänswein!

Every year, Ratzinger would meet his former pupils. He continued doing this when he became pope. One former Ratzinget pupil Fr.Vincent Twomey speaking on Irish radio in 2014. He commented that at 2012 reunion Ratzinger looked physically shattered. This would confirm what Garnswein says here. At 2014 reunion, Twomey said that Ratzinger looked "rejuvenated" so much so that he, Twomey, could not believe the improvement. This also confirms what Gaenswein says here

So, I would have asked did you Ganswein sense there may have been more behind his decision to retire, that there was something else he was not saying or revealing? It is concerning, though, that he used the word "wolf" that there was no "wolf" that the church was safe, when that was the very word he used the day he became elected as Pope---"Pray for me, that I may not flee for fear of the wolves."
Psychologists would call this a Freudian Slip which reveals "subconcious feelings", or the exact fear he had deep down. We will NEVER know what actually happened, but there were 2 other men that he had told besides Ganswein. Who were they, and I will always wonder who else may have said something to him to prompt him to make such a drastic decision.
I would also have asked about the visit Bishop Fellay had with the Pope, and when asked if he couldn't do something to help the church which was in trouble, and Benedict pointed at the door and said, "My power stops there". And, why wasn't Benedict able to fly and visit his brother ever? Bishop Fellay said Benedict felt he was "in prison".

The resignation of Benedict XVI was the greatest catastrophe for the Catholic Church since the Protestant Reformation. It must have been agony for Ratzinger to wach his life's work be undone by this Bergoglio; yet he could never admit that he had made a mistake in resigning. Well, he did make a mistake. BIG TIME. Should have taken Ganswein's advice and changed the nature of the papacy by delegating his work load without abdicating his authority.

Ganswein is not to be believed. He must say certain things, or else. The book about Ratzinger is a backstab, fast paced by the Bergoglio team to put JMB in good light. Also weird, as Cionci points out, that a pdf version is released prior to the print edition. Not a normal move by authors, publishers, or editors.

This will not be....because he's out of Vatican and his big friends too step by step. He has his new (and old) home in Freiburg as a free private man and priest. He's 67 now and should have more time for himself, his health and things he wanted to do since a long time.He for himself wants to do more pastoral care. Never had an aspiration to ever occupy a position that would make him more than a priest. I think it is selfish of many Catholics to want to see him as Pope after such a long period of service, given his incomplete health. He should be allowed to rest. This priest truly deserves a slow transition into retirement.

I have a major problem with Raymond Arroyo! He is a guest on Fox News almost nightly and acts in a most juvenile, catty way. Rather than comment on issues, he and Laura Ingraham deride people for physical and mental “shortcomings” I have no problem with them calling out things that people can change, but I do have a problem with making fun of John Fetterman’s speech after his stroke. As a Catholic with no allegiance to a political party, I’m dismayed with Raymond‘s lack of charity and humility. His behavior is the antithesis of Christ’s teaching. Also, by not correcting Laura’s lies and propaganda, he is endorsing it. How would he feel if somebody called his singing “ wanna be lounge lizard”???
