I'm surprised Linus didn't mention how restrictive to airflow the glass front panel is. That kind of stuff cooks your processor.
He did mention that the front fans intake air through unfiltered side vents. Side vents are a pretty common feature on a lot of nice atx cases, and having filtered vents is even more restrictive to airflow but will not necessarily cause components to overheat. Its probably not true that true that the processor is getting cooked on the system in the video because he made no mention of thermal throttling in any of the tests.
Yea i used to have a case nearly identical to that walmart one - looks nice but my GPU was literally cooking inside there. Got a lian li airflow case and my CPU/GPU sit in the mid 50s-60s now. Granted it does need a clean, though.....
The bigger concern is those poor VRMs. They will absolutely get roasted
First of all, why yes he did. Second of all, what else impresses me about this is the fact when I saw it, and even I didn't actually know half as much about computers as I thought I did, which itself I didn't think I knew all that much anyway, even back then I remember seeing this and beginning to think like "wow, isn't, is that...are you actually SUPPOSED TO hold up a GPU with the cable like that??" I mean even in my retarded ass brain I could tell very easily and this is weird thinking about that was back in Pascal era (it's strange how far away that is now) that having a fucking USB 3 cable as the GPU support is just retarded and looks wrong. THAT is why they put hot glue on it. It's because it was actually meant to be a GPU bracket. Which, unlike piece of shit companies like Dell, they had been way too cheap to actually put a GPU bracket anywhere in there. And this is from the company which itself built the stupid thing on zero airflow industrial office shitcases on the inside but like a Necron Flayed One is wearing the skin of its slain enemies on the outside, having the "Alienware" hide to more or less sell exclusively based on looks and appearances. Which is pretty much what the entire Overpowered strategy was, just make it look nice enough someone will stupidly buy it. They had a, I can't remember I think it was Cyberpower that had the cheapest shittiest goddamn board ever, it had ONE stick of RAM on exactly that kind of crapboard as the Overpowered, it had a shittastic alleged "RTX" 3050ti in it, and it cost a whopping $1200. Meanwhile there was a very nice $800 Ibuypower that had RX 6700 in it and two sticks of RAM both Trident no less on an OK motherboard with actual VRM heatsinks (the shitty Cyberpower didn't even bother, there's no good CPU going in the RTX one).
It to this day completely blows my mind that the far better machine which looked better, was built better, performed better and it only cost two thirds of the Cyberpower shitbox, so much so the $800 PC literally gets better raytreacing with the RX 6700, yet Walmart stuffed the thing in the back next to a piece of crap HP office machine and left the shittier more expensive 3050ti shitbox on display.
Sometimes, I like to imagine I understand what they're saying....

well... slap in a 16gb kit with 2 sticks. a decent psu and a dust cover you got an okay pc.
Hey dude, it's not bad for the price, he gave some completely useless criticisms that have no impact on anything. For example, he talks about them partitioning the hard drives, that has no impact. He talks about there only being USB 3.0 ports on the back, which has no *real* impact. He criticized the onboard graphics even though your system is running off the GPU, so that HAS NO IMPACT. Just a bunch of garbage and overly critical commentary from someone trying to get views. In the end, do not worry, just put a dust cover on and *you have a good pc* .

No dust filter in a pc most buyers will never even open
Dane Berryman clearly doesn’t understand the purpose of a dust filter.....
@@bI5NISMO Nope, he is right. Dust filters are there to ease maintenance, not to replace it.
Obviously the best solution is air filters + regular maintenance.
The filters are faster to clean, but also clog way faster.
Which means no air flow and more heat if not cleaned- way before the actual components are clogged.
I mean, its' common sense (no offense, genuinely) that a blocked filter won't act as efficient as a clean one, though generally they still offer airflow around the center where the fan is.
However, depending on your house/office, you could leave a PC for a couple years and not touch it and you might have no problems, nor notice a thing, because the dust filter is doing it's job. It won't be as efficient and those who pay close attention to temperatures etc will see the difference.
I don't know about that, this is the second walmart machine where the graphics card not attached lol They'll be opening it up first day :D
Even with dust filters I feel I have to clean at least twice a year (although it doesn't show in temp). The really fine (talk powder like) stuff still gets in a bit.

Don't worry they will send them back lol
Lipscomb Yep, it was a joke bud.
Hushbreezy With many of these taking them apart, maybe not. Idk
I bet so much that walmart employed somebody who knew what they were doing, let them build a good, well balanced PC for the budget, then turned around and went "well with these parts it would be cheaper, and the RGB makes it look even better!" and ruined it, it would explain why there are dodgy parts while still being put together well.
I bet they hired a cheap company overseas and that was that.
I want to know what kind of PSU has been used. A friend of mine had once bought a pc from there and after 7 months the PSU exploded!!!
@@the_danksmith134 13:48 it is a Great Wall 500W unit.
I came to the United States (early 2000) for a visit and wanted to buy some Post Cards (18 Individual Cards) from Walmart. I went to the checkout and the Mexican lady tried to count the cards. She usually got up to four or five in English and then started again. After a few minutes of this repeat exercise, I got frustrated and counted them out for her! She then took them back off me and started to count them out again. I just looked at my wife and laughed and walked out without the cards. A bit rude of me I know, but heh when I employ staff, I make sure that they can speak English and count......……….. the majority of our customers speak English and therefore English is a must for any employee. Where I was in the USA the majority of the customers would have been able to speak and have as a first language English...…...… so a very crazy situation for a person dealing with customers on a till. Most def I would not purchase a Gaming PC from Walmart! lol
You must not be familiar with Dell business practices from the late 90s and early 2000s. All integrators have done this for decades because on paper the machine specs look good but the unlisted components are generally garbage.
As an example, I was at a staples and asked what the speed of the RAM in a particular system was. The guy said "says right here it's 16GB DDR4"...
That's all they put on the spec list. They don't tell you because it might be single stick, single channel 2400MHz going into your Zen 2 system instead of the appropriate 3200MHz+ dual channels kits on the QVL for the motherboard, if those bargain basement motherboards even have a QVL.
Different Partitions keeps the boot drive from getting reset by accident or wiping files for a rest. Maybe? IDK
Dell also creates 4 partitions to this day. I've seen them even ship computers with 6-8 partitions on them. Always reimage and rebuild the partitions for any computer you get. Don't trust the manufacturer to not be an idiot.
I mean if they can run Bookworm Adventures Deluxe it doesn't really matter.
Beef Stew KNACK II BABYYYYY
This isn’t dunkey.
Hey beef stew is Linus giving away 1k copies of bookworm adventures?
I really like the fact that you are literally ubiquitous...
It doesn’t look up to the test
Oh man, the nostalgia hits me hard with that one
haha Bitwit and Linus both had unplugged GPU's
Edit: Jesus, first time I had more than 100 likes on a comment Thanks people :)
Yeh I was gonna say that
Me too
I am guessing that was intended, because the cable managment on other pc side is really good, if you learn how to manage cables that well than i don't see how can you forget to plug in pci-e in 2 PC's
@@eross5420 Yeah I'm thinking the same thing. Worried about static in transit... maybe? And the issues here are familiar to anyone who's worked in the design/engineering dept of a large firm. You have competent people, but you're often absolutely just hobbled by external or bureaucratic considerations - like "no, 1 x 16GB is $0.05c cheaper than 2 x 8GB, and it's the same capacity anyway!" or "This is a 500W PSU, why get a more expensive 450W one?"
Bitwit has the same problem with this walmart garbage!.... (at 6:20min)

Is that a drywall keyhole saw you opened the box with lmao 🤣
I do partition the drives. If I am annoyed because someting fails, I format the system partition while all the data stays. I would not use four partition, but 2 plus the hidden recovery-partition? Every singe time I setup a new system.
Pretty sure they hired "The Verge" guy to build their systems
It switches on, not “The Verge Guy”.
this is done wayyyyyy better than the verge
they hired a good technician who compromised on their principles.
Stefan Etienne
Nah, they still did a better job than him.
Internal Conversation At Walmart Meeting:
Hey, should we spend more on a 3.0 USB and a better PSU
Nah, let’s just spend shit on RGB, it looks cool with the smoke that will come out of the PSU.
Because customers won't ask "Does this come with a reliable PSU?" but instead will ask "Does this have RGB?"
Lol..
@@ayyssassin "Reliable PSU" my foot, I'd rather have a smoke machine in my PC!
u dumb dumb. It's not any smoke, it's RGB smoke!
Right, the builders did a decent job, but the design team has dropped the ball in almost every aspect.
I love the fact that it's been 4 years and he is still recording his vids in the same place
linus: bought more than 5 pc's
Me: dreaming of 1
So how much RGB do we want on this system?
Walmart: Yes
Walmart doesn't make it

How could it possibly be bad? Those RGB fans alone gives you a 200% boost in fps
The OP logo itself gives better coooling by 500%....so I don't know why we need those fans 😑
You can always download more RAM if you need it too!
@@Maxrepfitgm the powersupply is so underpowered that it doesn't take up 80+ fps! It gives you 80+ more!
Well, they may have, if they weren't being smothered by glass.
It's like if a ricer brought a gaming pc
I can imagine him having a room full of PCs
He kinda does with the storage room
I know why the hard drive was partitioned 4 ways...I recently formatted a hard drive for a new build and it put it into 4 partitions by itself.
Whoever built these systems must have learned from The Verge.
jimmyl_82104 If it was based on the build from The Verge, imagine Linus’s surprise when it actually POST’d.
Lol
Lol ive seen so many videos about this system that ive seen this joke a million times by now

They would probably be better than Walmart's.
Pretty hard to fit in a happy meal eh?
I heard that they are too greasy, but the performance is good.
Fit and happy meal don't really go well in a sentence.
