  • Griboyedov's rhyming play 'Woe from Wit' gave an early example of the alienated Romantic hero or 'superfluous man', inspiring later works like Pushkin's 'Eugene Onegin' and Lermontov's 'A Hero of Our Time'.
Here the famous final speech is performed by Oleg Menshikov ('Burnt by the Sun', 'The Barber of Siberia') subtitled with a new rhyming verse translation by Brigit McCone, created for a poetry night at the Trinity College Dublin Russian Department. More info: slavonical.blogspot.com
