Ask the Expert with Dr. Gomez

Each month, NAF invites an expert to answer questions about Ataxia. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge you need to live better with Ataxia. This session featured Dr. Christopher Gomez and took place on Thursday, October 14, 2021.
Dr. Christopher Gomez has worked in the field of genetic disorders of the neuromuscular junction (congenital myasthenic syndromes) and cerebellum for more than 25 years. He is an expert in neurogenetic disorders, gait and balance disorders, and in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with Ataxias.

"15 doctors really know ataxia in the "U.S." though there are hundreds of neurologists. No wonder I can't get help or a diagnosis. PT are even worse!

A lot of ataxia patients have ED and urinary issues, it happens with aging. Does not mean they have MSA-C even though there is a lot of literature on the subject. I wish doctors quit jumping to conclusions on first impressions and some order a worthless Datscan. Idiopathic= you don't know why! Maybe in the future. You're working in the wrong century!
