Catch TONS More Channel Catfish (SIMPLE TRICK)

- I was out doing some summertime channel catfish fishing and dodging some very high winds. I started fishing in deep water and was getting tons of bites but not catching many channel catfish so I moved shallow and started targeting summer channel catfish in shallow water in and around heavy cover. The first couple of places I fished I knew were holding fish but I just was not getting bites or catching fish. I finally moved again and immediately started catching fish but there was a reason why and in the process of catching fish I showed one of the most important aspects of catching channel catfish and how you as an angler can catch more channel catfish by making adjustments to how you fish. This is the most important trick or tip I can give you to being a successful channel catfish angler.

I gotta say, as a sport fisherman that's really deep into the preservation side of fishing ecology, I seriously appreciate your explanation as to why we leave the hooks in that are seated too deep. Lots of people will rip them out and toss the fish back because they value a $0.60 hook more than the fish, or they have no idea what the effect on the fish is. Cat's will work the hook out and spit it back if left alone to do it for long.

I grew up on the Alabama river where flatheads, blues, and channel were easy to find. Now where I live, the closest river pretty much only has channel and sometimes they are hard to get to bite.

Any tips for early summer catfishing for tournaments? I live in Southeast arkansas and our next tournament falls on my birthday, (June 24th) and I would love a win. It's on the arkansas river at little rock not sure if you have ever fished that system or not but I am doing my damndest to pull something off for this tournament.
The best way to catch more channel cats is to use kool aid chicken lol. It’s like a drug to them.

@Fishaholic I don't know whether you're being serious or maybe trying to have a little fun but I've had good luck with cut chicken breast at times. Especially the colder months. And not just Channel Cat either. I've caught some pretty big Blues on it too. In my experience, it doesn't need the Kool Aid either. There is some sort of enzyme, or something, that is in chicken that mimics something in clams and if they're feeding on clams they can't tell the difference. And of course, Kool Aid is made from Bone Marrow so it doesn't hurt a thing. I'm not a chemist or even educated but that is how it was explained to me by someone who is. And I've had people make fun of me for using it but it produces and as long as it's producing I'll keep using it. So I hope you were being serious but if you weren't, well, we can all have a good laugh at my expense. I'm ok with that. I'll be on the river bright and early in the morning and one of the baits I'll be using is: you guessed it, chicken.

Do you normally go spot to spot holding with your trolling motor “spot-lock” when you’re channel-catting?
In deep water I spot lock, In shallow water i use my Talons.

Larger fish keep the lakes populated. Removing the smaller fish actually helps.

I think they do. The smaller ones taste cleaner IMO. also I've heard bigger ones are more likely to have parasites but I don't know if that's true

i suppose you’re having fun but who really wants to spend all day catching enough fish to feed your cat? turn around and cast the other direction and catch supper for the family.
First of all, I'm catch and release fishing and not keeping fish. Second, even if I was keeping fish I release all fish over five pounds so I don't want any fish bigger than these. Finally, there's a HUGE number of people that just want to catch fish, they don't want big fish and they'd be tickled to death to catch fish like this.

Started catch and release into Lake Crisco for eatin' size about 20 years ago in our lake. Still have plenty of eatin' size but our big ones are giants. Both bass and crappie.
Covering hand over the part that shows the numbers, on a spot you catching little fish. LOL. That sir gets you an unsubscribe, not that I would fish those numbers, it was just a bitch move.
I wasn’t covering the “numbers” I was covering the map. If I advertise where I’m fishing they’ll be 40 boats there the next day. Don’t like it? That’s fine. It’s never going to change.
Why don’t you grow a CZcams channel to 60,000 subs and then go fish and post the exact coordinates of where you’re fishing in videos and then get back to me and let me know how that works out.
