Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow has been in the MCU for multiple movies since her debut in Iron Man 2 many years ago. While other characters have had the chance to shine in multiple solo outings, Natasha Romanoff was never given the opportunity to take the reins in a big screen adventure of her own. Until now… Several years after the character’s on-screen death. Better late than neveR?
Black Widow definitely raises some questions. Like why DID it take so long for them to make this? How is Natasha surviving all these explosions, car crashes and falls as a non-superpowered character? How many people died in that avalanche? Why did Natasha and her mom swap faces? How does that weird pheromone thing work? How did only the good guys survive that massive base collapse and fall? I did think it was weird how she and her sister tried to murder each other with zero explanation on first sight of one another… and then also call a truce with zero explanation, instantly being on each other’s side now.

The sign up for Disney plus joke actually got me laughing because it’s so true. Disney has made it so that to be able to keep up with the mcu you basically have to own a Disney plus account
And then the actual MCU shows on Disney plus are effectively underwhelming previews for future MCU stuff.
Actually they’ve stated that they’re not gonna leave movie viewers totally in the dark.
I know I just watch CZcams reviews instead. The star wars shows does make it tempting, but not worth it for me.

A lot of comic villains have similar "snarky but bitter smart guy" characterizations in Marvel comics. If they had made her a wit-spewing Deadpool knock-off everyone would have hated that too.
The bland and silent aspect wasn't an inherent quality of Taskmaster. They were under mind control. She stopped being silent and began showing emotion the moment the mind control was removed. We'll see what happens with the character going forward. Mind you, she'll probably need to go see Bucky's therapist.

This was a bland movie using a new character to point people to Disney Plus. It feels different.
Black Widow had an amazing story. Just a shame we didn't actually get to see any of it.

I watched this in theaters with a couple of friends and we all collectively said "based" after that line
It was supposed to simultaneously be a misogynistic comment and a critique on the societal neglect of abandoned children, especially girls.
As soon as i saw Taskmaster, my brain went: "I bet that's gonna secretly be the daughter who survived somehow" and then I immediately thought "Haha, that would be so ridiculous XD"..... :(
When I watched black widow in the theater the first thing that came to mind after was "the pitch meeting for this movie full of plot holes is going to be tight" and I was not disappointed

Man what a missed opportunity!... It really would have been a freaking awesome twist that when Black Widow smashed the vile on Taskmaster, it is revealed that she wasn't under mind control at all... she was just evil like her father, and that would have led to a great final battle between the two.

They can't do that! Deadpool already traveled back in time to kill that character, so he doesn't exist in this time line anymore.

That part was really disappointing but, at the very least, she's freed from the mind control at the end. So there's opportunity to have the character reappear later with a very different personality that's closer to the comics/cartoons/etc. It was still a weird ass decision to begin with, though.

If I may project for a moment, I think most of us would've liked a recurring Black Widow franchise. The impression I get is that Scarjo wasn't interested in continuing in Marvel. Maybe she'll be the female Dr. Doolittle in the reboot of the movie liked by literally no one.
It works better if you are not a fan of taskmaster cause this movie taskmaster actually have personal connection to natasha.

Except Winter Soldier was mostly comic accurate and his emotional connection with the protagonist and the audience was much more genuine, having already been established in a previous movie, but sure. Totally the same thing as in Black Widow.

Should be, but Vision was caught off guard and Wanda barely understood her powers back then. She understands her powers a lot more now after WandaVision, and especially after reading the Darkhold, she’ll definitely be a force to be reckoned with.

Nothing was more aggravating than being the one person in my group of friends that has seen F&tWS and immediately recognized Valentina, only to see blank looks on the others' faces.
One mistake: Yelena was freed at the beginning of the movie so the pheromone lock was already disabled. Plus, I doubt she could smell Draykov from outside the plane. But as always, great stuff!
I don't think the mind control has anything to do with the pheromone lock. All the Widows had the pheromone lock, including Natasha who was not brainwashed. Pheromones can travel for miles, and their presence can be sensed rather than smelled. According to Melina (Natasha and Yelena's surrogate mom), the only way to disengage the pheromone lock is to sever the nerve. So unless Yelena severed her own nerve offscreen, then her being able to blow up Dreykov's aircraft is a plothole.

Every time Ryan does a pitch meeting I find myself relieved I didn't waste time or money on a bad movie.
The definition of equality would have been to give her a shirtless scene so we could see her abs. Every Marvel movie that's been successful has that scene. Maybe Captain Marvel 2 and Black Widow 2 should make a note of that.

I was really hoping you'd have mentioned the giant sky fortress that somehow managed to evade detection for decades and how a massive structure plummeting to earth would have caused a nuclear bomb sized explosion in Age of Ultron but in Black Widow it was totally fine.

The size of the city that Ultron was going to drop was incomparable to the 'giant' sky fortress though.. The sky fortress was itty bitty compared to the city.

I had kind of got into the movie, not like it was good but I was engaged enough that I forgot she was canonically dead, and the scene of them celebrating their victory as a family at the end and saying they were going to stick together from then on, then hard cut to her tombstone was the funniest thing I've seen in a movie in a long time.

@@note4note804 I think it's also helpful that most movie scripts _themselves_ these days are basically Mad Libs, and so they easily fall right into the Pitch Meeting formula.
Because most reviewers see movies before they are released. I saw Black Widow a few days before the release and I know someone who saw it two weeks in advance. Plenty of time to have the video ready to go before the release.

Most of the times I prefer the pitch meeting over the actual movie.
Esp with this one, well, and probably The Eternals, too.
You should definitely watch Black Widow though and especially Eternals

@@thirdofherne9232 and in the next scene she was running as if she is on her morning jog! marvel really did a terrible job with this movie! its timing, writing, directing, everything is just a mess! left a sour taste just like how WW84 ruined WW for the audience!.. yes its a movie about superbeings but the only superbeing in this movie was ALEXEI and rest all were simply enhanced, peak of human potential ability beings, yet survived the explosions, falls, bullets, sky diving through debris, and shake it off like deadpool could do. utterly disappointed, this movie could have been marvel's first directive approach as a crime thriller, the gruesome past of widows and atrocities upon them, but no, they had to joke about the uterus removal like as if its getting a tattoo job done! the visualization of that one scene would have took the movie to whole different level, instead of tapping into the pain of the widows past life and trainings, we got this piece of hurried crap for money grab.

You should see the old Green Hornet movie serial. In one cliffhanger, the car they are in gets blown up as they cross a bridge and they fall to their doom. How did they survive? Next chapter shows them lying on the ground apparently dead near the smashed car. They get up after a moment and leave. That's it.

I didn’t wonder about her vest and it’s been a while since seeing Endgame so I thoroughly enjoyed the vest fixation before having the connection made for me.
It was better when it was just a thing the two sisters liked, rather than explicitly tying it into another film, honestly.
I literally watched the film today, so I could enjoy the pitch meeting without the feeling of beeing spoilerd.
The movie should have been much darker and violent than it was. Black Widow has one of the most sinister and tragic backstories in Marvel, but they just had to turn it into another flashy-unrealistic action movie. Should have been more about the tragedy and emotion rather than action.

That would have made her look vulnerable, though. For some reason, Twitter feminists hate that and that scares Hollywood into not giving women weaknesses, which is sad because vulnerabilities make us empathize with characters. It’s a shame women can’t be portrayed as anything other than a “badass who don’t need no man”. What endeared us to Tony, Steve, and Thor were their moments of weakness and overcoming obstacles, making us feel the triumph that they felt.

Yep, some female-led superhero movies bombed impressively. Mostly the ones where the writers/producers apparently agreed that since the lead was super-sexy, the entire plot should consist of her doing suggestive poses in painted-on outfits.
Most recently, the issue with female-led superhero movies is that they're trying so hard to make the point that women are as good (or better) than men, but then they kneecap the writing because they think any character development or struggle that the MC has to go through will undercut the message.
Look at Captain Marvel, sure it did well at the box office, but that's probably because it was released after one of the most popular Avenger's movies of all time and Marvel was still the hottest thing at the Cinema. But it's been heavily criticized and any projects with Captain Marvel have been scrapped or postponed until she can't even be the solo MC in her own sequel.
But if they just let their characters have some vulnerability and character development, then maybe they'd have a chance at writing some good plot (ie. Wonder Woman).

6:32 When I saw it I was thinking she wouldn't be able to kill him though because of the pheromones. A couple thing that could have it make sense is that Yelena got freed from the brainwash. The other thing that I think makes a bit more sense is that she was attacking the plane more so than him. Maybe the pheromones didn't reach outside the plane.
Black Widow has more powers than Hulk by this point.
While hulk gets weaker, natasha seems going the opposite way. Well I mean ulin the first avenger movie, natasha survives a hand slap from hulk.
