Why DNA uses only 4 bases where as protein uses 20 amino acid why?

Very nice and thought provoking question . After some reading i found out the answer to this question is not yet known.
There are two ways to describe this information, i.e., to reduce the number of letters in alphabet (n), which simplifies the decoding machine, but leads to longer informational sequences, or to increase n, which shortens sequences, but complicates the informational machine. So overall the message in DNA can easily be extracted by the transcription machinery if 4 letter code is used.
Refer to the following article: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7483832/
