    Learn all the ways to combat these common beginner mistakes by checking out this video! This is kind of a compilation of common mistakes I've witnessed through teaching a LOT of hoopers, plus tips on things that really helped with my hoop journey!
    #1 - Ignoring your opposite current & non-dominant hand
    #2 - Making T-Rex arms/not being conscious of your arms
    #3 - Standing still/not dancing
    #4 - Choosing the wrong size hoop
    #5 - Not ever filming yourself
    BONUS TIP - Make sure you practice often! I didn't personally see much improvement until I began spending time hooping every single day! Even if it was only for a few minutes :)

    Not just for beginner hoopers. I've been hooping going on 3 years, and I always need reminding to move with my hoop, move my arms, to record myself, to at least try to learn tricks in both directions, and yes, to pick up my big 42" hoops is really ok. This video helps me with all of this and is one I'll come back to so I don't forget. Thanks for such a great video!

    HA! Once you mentioned t-rex arms I realized immediately that's me. Thanks for making me conscience of that and what I can do to fix it.

    Also, a thing that helped me a lot was using a mirror, just like dancers do, to see how you look and correct things. Any mirror can help, I use a long vertical one.

    WORD , best advice ever, pure golden nuggets. Filming myself was the biggest boost for me, mostly showing me what not to do, and occasionally capturing some happy accident that became a move. Thanks for sharing. .oOo.oOo.oOo.

    @MargaritaSanchez-qn9it Před 5 lety +6

    Thanks! I've been doing the filming thing, and I've been correcting me and surprising me also jaja. And it's so true the dancing part, when I started to give my hooping that flow I fell in love with the sensation, and I think that that's the essence of hooping: the movement, the flow, the beauty and and the freedom. Excellent advices!

  • @Amie-
    @Amie- Před 8 lety +38

    yes! all of these. my biggest mistake was not dancing to music!! I was just learning tricks and not flow. That has hurt me tremendously. So now I'm just over a year in and trying to become fluid BC I didn't practice to music. For me, music was the key to unlock my flow.

    • @lyndeclarkson5069
      @lyndeclarkson5069 Před 6 lety +4

      Amy Ramos I know it's been awhile since you posted that but I just wanted to say I feel that completely! I was always so focused on learning the new cool moves that when I tried to actually flow with them, I would get stuck and find myself not knowing where to go from certain positions on the fly even though I knew tons of moves. Practicing with music and giving myself some flow time along with learning different kinds of moves has definitely made me feel alot more comfortable!!

    You can try arm hoops with stacked hoops to cover more and get the most out. Not a shortcut it's just something to speed it up a bit. You need to have good rhythm tho

    I got a 28" polypro hoop because I mainly want to do off body tricks but I can't seem to waist hoop with it, I see the one your using to waist hoop looks like it is the length of your inner thigh to your ankle (which is what mine also is) but I can't waist hoop with it without it falling. If I got a bigger hoop (that comes up to my belly button; like 38") and learned to waist hoop with it, would it make it easier to waist hoop with my smaller hoop?

    I cannot for the life of me get rid of those t-Rex arms🙈

    • @michellejohnson7193
      @michellejohnson7193 Před 6 lety +3

      I bet you can even if it's just 1 inch at a time
      By that I mean try moving your arms just 1 or 2 inches out from your body
      Or holding your elbows out as if you would gently elbow someone standing next to you.
      Then just slowly (even if it's day by day) increase an arm move that you are comfortable with and before you know it I bet those arms are looking lovely and you are doing a fantastic job. I couldn't hold my arms fully to the side and now I can from just taking it little by little and now I can even hold them up for just a few seconds. Make sure to pay attention to the movement of your body you may have to increase your waist force just a little. We will get it - whatever it is we are trying to do as long as we talk positive and keep trying!
      All the best and God bless

      Never too old ! I am 42 years old - I love to hoop. My mother (62) will even pick up the hoop from time to time and she is good at it when she does ! Not only is hooping great physical exercise but it is also good mentally. And by mentally , I mean that it is good “brain exercise “ as well as boosting confidence and even helping with conditions such as depression & anxiety. Never let your age be a deciding factor in life ...... “too old” to who??? The rest of society ? If I lived my life to comply with some of our “society’s standards” , It certainly would not have been as interesting and no where near as much fun! If you want to do something in life and it feels right to YOU, and no harm to anyone else , then Do it and feel good about it. In the end , when you are beautifully hooping and obviously enjoying yourself, anyone who may have thought you were “too old” will likely be envious and jealous. So, pick up your hoop and most importantly, have fun while you are learning and practicing ! ✌🏽,💕& 🤗 Peace, love & hugs!
