    After losing 17 straight games to the San Francisco 49ers, the St. Louis Rams hoped to break the streak and up their record to 4-0 on the season. Are these the same old Rams? Just ask Isaac Bruce.

    I wish anyone under 25 that's a football fan could understand how important this game was. The 49ers had beaten the Rams 16 straight times and most of the games were absolute blowouts. The 49ers owned the Rams in a way I've never seen one team own another team. They even deep sixed the first season the Rams were in St. Louis. The Rams hosted the 49ers at Busch Stadium having started 5-1. 49ers beat them 44-10 and it wasn't even THAT close. Just a soul crushing ass whoopin'. So when this game happened, even without Steve Young, the 49ers were absolutely confident they could win. And why not?
    Except...in many ways, this game marked a pivot in both franchises. The 49ers went in to decline and the Rams rose to be one of the elite teams in the sport.

      Not to mention, after that 44-10 loss, the Rams went on to win just 2 of their next 9 games to finish the year 7-9. Completely demoralized them.

    I remember this 99 rams like it was yesterday. Week 1 vs the Ravens nobody care just like me because both teams were not good. Week 3 vs the NFC Champs Falcons, WTF is going on with Atlanta? Week 4 vs the Bengals. Its the sorry Bengals no one cares. Then against my 49ers. HOLY S--- THIS RAMS TEAM is serious.

  • @ProfessorBMedia

    This game marked the changing of the guard as this would be the first of six straight wins and 7 of the next 8 games that the Rams would win against the 49ers who had beaten them 17 straight times and 19 of 20 going back to week 15 of the classic Monday Night comeback when the Niners overcame a 24-10 and 27-17 deficits to win 30-27 than a month later the Niner beat the Rams 30-3 in the NFC Championship on their way to repeat and win their fourth Super Bowl of the '80s.
    In fact, the 49ers would win 12 straight road games vs the Rams either at Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim/Bush Memorial Stadium/Trans World/Edward Jones Dome in St.Louis between 1987-1998.
    As for the St.Louis Rams, they would begin a stretch where they would go (10-2) in their next 12 games against the 49ers from 1999-2004.
    Then the 49ers would go (11-3-1) in their next 15 games between 2005-2013 than between 2014-18 both teams would split a pair three times then the Niners would sweep the Rams in '16 then the Rams swept the Niners in'18 and at press time from 2019-present the 49ers have now beaten the Rams five straight times and has beaten the Rams in series sweeps three times in the last six years.
    This 49ers Rams rivalry had its share of great games and great players and coaches since the series begin in 1950.

    Wilkins having to ice his foot after all of those extra points.
    One person who’s foot definitely won’t need ice is the punter. Those Niners were just not stopping those Rams. Seriously, the only way anyone was able to stop those Rams was by turning the ball over.

    Because they hadn't had a winning season in 9 years the preseason the odds on the Rams to win the Superbowl were 200:1. That was down to 20:1 when they were 4-0 before this game. I knew if they beat the Niners the odds would drop far lower so I bet $100 them at 20:1 and thus won 2 grand on the Superbowl.

    If the 14 or 15 Niner players (yes, I'm exaggerating.. a little) who touched that fumble on the punt had actually bothered to fall on it, who knows, maybe the outcome would have been different. Late 90's 49ers.. pathetic drafting throughout that time (Owens aside)...led to the dumpster fire that they were until 2012, and of course didnt learn from their mistakes, and are still a dumpster fire.

    • @jmill3147
      @jmill3147 Před 4 lety

      @Jonathan Dee Agreed! Last season was a pleasant surprise. Competent drafting and personnel moves turned that sunken boat into a first class vessel quick.

    • @jmill3147
      @jmill3147 Před 4 lety

      @Jonathan Dee You're 100% right. The one in 2012 was devastating just because it felt like we needed to win "now or never". Harbaugh really wore on me throughout his years there. I'm not sure if you felt that way about him, but I got to where I didnt like him. Now we have a rock solid foundation and competence throughout the organization.

    • @jmill3147
      @jmill3147 Před 4 lety

      @Jonathan Dee Yep, I remember by mid 2014 it was obvious that party was over. Drafting and personnel decisions were atrocious, Baalke.. and even that 2011 game Seattle gave them all they could handle! First rushing TD surrounded all season in that game. I always got irked by Harbaugh wanting to run gimmick plays (passes to linemen, etc..) and meanwhile we had no offense inside the 20 that year.
