So cool. I personally love garter snakes. One of my cats used to bring them home for me, sometimes uninjured and sometimes less fortunate. Love to find them sunning in the garden or on a rock.
They can bite, but it's almost like a scratch more then a bite since their teeth are so small. The only times I have had blood drawn was from some really old big ones that were 2-3 feet long, but I have only ever seen those 2, maybe 3 times. And even then, it wasn't much.

I had to break it up because they were both hooked on the same piece of fish. I hand feed them but they still managed to grab the same piece. Fern had it in his mouth and Rosey grabbed it! I gotta be fast sometimes! It's kinda scary knowing they could start swallowing each other!
poor snakes! i was thinking why they didnt just separate from each other instead of having to be above each other like that, and then i realize that its hard for them to search for safe habitat..
Ok...........thank you for this UNBELIEVABLE video!!!! Its freaky as heck!!! I'm not a big snake lover. However here on a farm we do not kill the King snakes or black snakes, or for that matter, "these little guys!" But this carpet of snakes just makes my skin crawl. But, thank you for this video!

i've often wonder how many females are usually in these masses .. i do know it only takes one ... and given my experience with garter snake handling smell .. does this kind of mass have a very strong smell ?
