The only time you could get away with charging them is if you are flanking. Even then, plan to lose at least a few men if you decide to linger too long in their lines.

Mate after hundreds of hours I constantly lose my way in the late stages of the campaign as the army sizes get so massive I just sit there like a total spaz. If I had a quid every time I suddenly realised my shock cavalry were lost to my awful micro skills.
Tom Halsted In late campaign you have to use pause or slow down tbh. There's only so many units you can control.
more armies you have, less attention you should give for each unit (less staring)
Ah if you play on battle realism? That's simple! You cry as you desperately try to control 40 units at once as you panic wildly!
You have to create a army set that doesn't require too much micro. Pretty much a bulk of your force as solid battle line to stand in front to hold the enemy, ranged units that can support them, and a mobile force you can use for your micro (shock cavalry recommended). In short, learn how to macro instead.
I agree completely. There's an old saying in the original Rome: Total War; management of the many is the same as management of the few. It is a matter of organization.

Yes please. I need this so bad. Im 12 hours into the game and I barely know shit. This game looks so fun and awesome but almost every tutorial seems overwhelming. But at the same time thats what I want. So many things to learn, I bet the feeling of understanding everything will be amazing.

Really looking forward to the continuation of this series. Right now I'm fairly competent in Vortex campaign with High Elves from turns 1-40, but struggling afterwards when armies start comprising of advanced units. My army of all spears and archers becomes less relevant towards the mid-game expectedley,. but not sure how to balance tier 1 units with more advanced tier 3/4 units. Keep the tips coming!

Is there some sort of trick with cycle charging? Whenever i charge a unit into a flank they never seem to want to pull away and just keep fighting. I have to spam click to get them to even START moving away from the enemy flank.

One thing I often miss in these videos is an explanation of what ranges the different stats have. I.e. this video does a good job of explaining that a "high armour, leadership and melee defence is a durable unit" but it doesnt really explain what a "high stat" in either of those categories is. Perhaps a basic overview with a numerical range for "low", "medium" and "high" on each stat would be good?

Zerkovich explained the stats one by one 1:50 onwards
I will write down the algorithm for you
Armor: blocks random percentage of non-ap between half of armor and armor
example: 100 non AP damage and 60 armor
Average is (30 + 60)/2 = 45% of damage blocked
Hit chance = 40% + your unit MA - enemy unit MD
Bonuses vs sth - when your unit is attacking this type of unit it gets additional MA and damage of value of the bonus
Example 15 vs large
When base MA stat is 30 then you get 45 when attacking large
When base damage stat is 30 then you get 45 when attacking large
Charge is almost like bonus vs all but it drops in linear manner through 15 seconds

I'd go into custom battles and just compare unit cards to get a feel for whether somethings high or low. Zerkovich also has great guides for each race that outline pros and cons of a faction.
Guess it's easier to understand if a stat is high or low if you understand how it works.
Damage is not random it's a fixed number weapon strength. Compare it the health of different units and you should get an idea about low/high damage.
Damage reduction from armor is random. Each point of armor reduces each point of damage with 0.5-1. So at 200armor(cap) you reduce 99% of the non ap-damage. 100 armor (high) will reduce damage with 50-99% while 20armor (low) will reduce 10-20%
Melee Attack (MA) and Melee Defense(MD) is percentage. Chance to hit is 40%+MA-MD and will never go above 90% or below 10%.
So when a unit with both MA & MD 50 (good) attacks a unit with MA& MD 20(Bad) it's chance of hitting is 40+50-20=80% when the Bad unit hits back it has 40+20-50 = 10% to hit

I definitely need to work on my micro. Especially since wood elves are my favorite faction lol. Managing my units when they’re close to each other is fine, but I keep forgetting to protect my way watchers and wild riders.
I recommend TK with khalida. It's a rough start which forces you to micro your snakes and chariots A LOT - or the campaign will simply obliterate you within 10 turns. Tought me how to micro fast, fragile units as well as the value of chariots. ^^
Cavalry-spears-swords / missiles. It's basically rock paper scissors with one unit that loses to everything in melee.
definitely passed this part. I suck at campaigns but have great micro and can usually win fights when I don't mismanage my economy or overworld positioning

Came for 1, then for 2, back for 3..oh yeah lets go!
One item to note, some Lords are very high single target damage units. Duelist especially. This means they can kill most single infantry guys with one stab. These guys can be held down for a long time with a high model count low cost unit as the lord only gets one attack every so many seconds. And if he has to kill 200 models, all being one shots, or if he has to kill 80, all being one shots. The result is the larger models count will tie him down forever. Something to consider.

Campaign version, yes please.
My big hurdle to the total warhammer (or any total war) series is a lack of time. There are so many systems to get to grips with in the campaign and I don’t have days to play and get to grips so I end up playing something else that I don’t have to commit as much time to learning. I love total war games but I wish there were some sort of guided mode for a first time play, beyond the beginning tutorials. The combat I’m fine with, it’s just the world map stuff that overwhelms me.

I really love your videos and series, would love to if you helped with army compositions in the stages of the game like early,mid,late. In warhammer I really have a difficult time with army compositions since theres so many stuff like, heros,monsters,beasts and i am used to to just simple units so thatd help. Thank you

I suck at total war for one reason and one reason only. I haven't upgraded my beard to level zerkovich.
One thing that took me a long while to learn was range weapons, particular range weapons are either stronger than others but minimum ammo reserves "Javalins", crossbows and bows are roughly the same while blow darts are the weakest but with the largest ammo reserve, of course there are not-shurikens and poison viles, then there are slings which are better in damage than blow darts and greater in range, now of course there are guns but that should be obvious

My 2 cents:
Orc boys are decent dmg dealers because of their highter then avarage wp str.
Longbeards have a unique niche as flank defenders, since they have charge defense against large. They are great anti-armored cav.
Hammerers have Very low defense compared to their counterparts, so they are best used supported, while Warriors with GW and longbeards with GW can usually trade better in direct combat with ap infantry.
This should be required for all new players.

Glad to see you back at it with fresh content. Don't worry about it if you feel some might be redundant. A second take on a topic can often reveal new insights. Keep it rolling. Your tutorials and Party Elite's guides have been key in helping me get into this game and enjoy it more...and with a recent sale there are bound to be lots of new players looking for tips.
And also, Warhammer I and II forcus more on roleplay than strategy. For example sige battle maps are very small and the castle towers have unlimited range, so even with sige artillery you are at times compelled to go on the offensive when dealing with a higher tire settlement even when it might not be the wisest thing to do. Also, there are factions like Brittonia, with whom you have to spend much time/turns devloping their military till you get decent infantry to be able to support their cavelry and the enemies you are serrounded by, enemies such as the vampires and the orcs can steam role you early game if they so wish in-spite of how smart you are in your felid tactics, this due to the shere streanth of their early game units. Finally if you are not playing as the Elevs, Empire or one of the vampire factions you have to spend much time fortifying you position before you can start campaning which results in slow and boring gameplay. Warhammer Total War games are more than anything role playing games, and they could have spent much more time on making it more of a balanced tactics and strategy based game but they didn't do so. It has this popularity because of it's world and characters and hard-core Warhammer fans.

Quest battles can also get you comfortable with an army.
Unit size is actually pretty important to take note of. Storm vermin don't look great on paper, but they come in a massive unit of 120 models (I think) on large. Compare this to a unit of long beards that has about 60 unit models. It's for that reason demigryph knights sometimes under preform - there's only 24 of them vs other cav units that have 45 models
Demigryphs are monstrous cavalry, they're not in the same class as basic cavalry. Monstrous cavalry has huge advantage of being able to engage simultaneously with all their might and not just the frontline, because they're few enough and their hp and weapon strength is overpowering vs 45 men cavalry goons. They're also worse at taking casualties for the same reason. Demigryphs with halberds are an anti-large superiority unit, but they should be used in wolf packs (as all few-model units) if possible.

I think my issue is micro and issuing movement commands effectively, my units always blob up perfect for a vortex or I always forget to cycle charge my Grail knights.
It was only a matter of time until these videos came out. This game just took a little longer than others

Just read Sun-Tzu. Every unit has its anti-unit. The idea is to counter their idea with the appropriate unit. Starting formation can be key.
