I been working in IT for over 20 years. I obtained my first cert this month Azure Cloud Fundamentals. I am leaning toward working on my CCNA next with hopes of Security plus later. I study a few hours a day over several months. I am thinking about looking at a couple of topics at a time. IT is so vast that sometimes learning and studying brings in new topics that are related and beneficial. I am mostly into coding, networking and system admin. Studying for the cloud reintroduced how important networking is and needed in my growth as a developer.

I'm currently studying for the Network +. Passed A+ last week. I've found that studying heavily from 2 sources is the best. Studying from one course wasn't working well for me because its good to get things explained in different ways / learn new things that the other course never talked about. Studying from too many resources is counter-productive for me..just information overload and no sense of structure.

I've been with them for a bit and have worked my way up to network engineer. G. D. CCNA test wasn't clear cut either. I did CCNA first, coming from YEARS in telecommunications construction (inside and outside plant). Now wanting to get in cyber security, trying like heck to get Security + QUICKLY, not BY the month but IN a month. MAYBE A+ later, maybe. I found out rather early that I had a love for electronics. I took all the electronics classes available in high school, then went to school for Electro-Mechanicl Technology back in the '80s. Owned a Commodore 64 and had to repair it myself. I bought the Sams book on it and figured it out myself. I've built my own computers since 2000 and have ALWAYS played with OSs including windows 98, 98se, xp, 7, and 8, and MANY Linux distros. I've got a strong preference for Linux, Its so open and so available to further educate myself on how operating systems and hardware work...Never saw the need for A+, but if some ELSE wants to pay for the test I'm happy to pass it. 😁 Who knows, maybe I'll even pay for it... I'm just hoping I don't HAVE to, for HR/recruiters is the only reason I would 🙄. Fingers crossed 🤞

Should I take A+ and Network+ certifications before Security+? Many of my classes that I have already taken covered those topics and the people that I have talked to tell me the Security+ certification is the most important one that I need for the career I want. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

This was a nice video. Unfortunately, security+ is gonna be my first cert I'm going for so I can get into the career, but now learning that a+ and network+ are a not absolute necessity but recommended course definitely creates more doubt in my mind about my abilities. Ugh. But that's me talking about my own thoughts. This video was very informative and has let me know that a+ and network+ work with security+, which also tells me that certs aren't entirely different and can be relatable to one another. So that's good. I remember I took a class when I was a freshman in high school where I got certified in c++ but that was...Jesus 10 years ago, and wasn't for job application, so it feels a lot different now. But hopefully, I get this figured out soon!

I'm glad I took them in that order because I feel like they build on each other and taking CompTIA exams gets you in the mindset of how thier questions are worded. After so many you know if you're spending too much time on a question. I also flagged all the performance based questions in the beginning and went straight to the multiple choice. If it was going to take me longer than 20-30 seconds to answer one, I also flagged it and moved on. When I finished answering question 90, I had 38 minutes left to finish the performance based questions and knocked those out, then the last of the multiple choice. By then, I had around 10 min to review. I also ate light an hour before the test (banana and a taco), made sure I did not have to use the restroom and had a cup of coffee two hours before to keep me awake and focused.
