#MAHARI_DANCE is a traditional dance form of Odisha and is the mother of classical Odishi dance. It is originated in temples of odisha from the cult of Devadasi. The dance form that was being practiced by the Devadasi in ancient times was called MAHARI.
The word Mahari is formed by combining two words Maha & Nari that means great women. This dance was a part of her service to the Lord Jagannath,they married to Lord Jagannath and also worked in her service to Lord Jagannath as a servant. So their getup and dressing was like a wife as well as a servant. They used to take vegetarian food and wear flowers.
