If you are eating the Standard American Diet your insulin will be permanently elevated. That's the case with the majority of Americans. Decrease the carbs, increase fats and proteins and the insulin fall naturally.

This is a clickbait title to trigger the fear of adherents to keto. The content is respectable but the title is unethical and rooted in fear. Just stop it with the fear-based triggering.

    Yes. The *vascular endothelial glycocalyx.*
    'Captain, the shields are down'
An additional mechanism? (an informed hypothesis)
Blood sugar spikes (among other factors) wash out the vascular endothelial glycocalyx. This is a structure that is not shown in medical textbook illustrations. It is only recently that it has been visualized in vivo.
The glycocalyx acts as a shield for the endothelial layer. It is also a 'flow sensor' and controls the release of Nitrous Oxide (NO) for BP control (vasodilation).
It takes the glycocalyx multiple hours to recover. With the shields down, the endothelial layer is exposed to toxins, oxidized products and LDL remnants. Continuous consumption of carbohydrates never allows the glycocalyx to fully recover.
It is a one-two punch, a binary explosive. Excess inflammatory factors *WHILE* the shields are down. If you study just one component, you might miss it. There are many inflammatory factors, including smoking, oxidized LDL, glycated LDL, glycated RBC, nano plastics, etc.
Why would we have such a fragile structure for these mechanisms that protect us?
The flight-or-fight response. "Adrenaline (later, cortisol) is released which triggers the release of blood sugar (glucose) and fats from temporary storage sites in the body. These nutrients flood into the bloodstream, supplying energy to all parts of the body."
The glycocalyx is washed out, preventing the release of NO and causing blood pressure to rise as heart rate and blood flow increase. That gets the energy and hormones to every nook and cranny of every capillary.
This does increase our exposure to the {toxins}, but _Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures._
Being in that state chronically (for one example, sleep apnea) is deadly.
    thanks for the video!

I prefer carnivore, too many unknowns with plants and I feel much healthier after 5 year of meat only.

Just listened to Dr Cywes and his eloquent, logical, scientific talk for lay people about the role of inflammation in the body - episode 380. Well worth a look. (cywes 380 - will find it)

He never quotes articles as evidence

  • @-What-are-your-thoughts

It’s sad we live in a time where we don’t know who or what to believe. Why can’t Drs and Scientists just state the facts.

    • @dennisward43
      @dennisward43 Před 3 dny

Because often telling the facts does not suit their career path. They have their hands in the massive pockets of pharmacutical companies and high sugar/seed oil producers. So they quote manipulated studies instead, if they can be bothered..

Every time Gundry uses the word “truth” I turn it off. Other peple have opinions; he has truth.

I'm vegan vegetarian. I have excellent numbers. Blood pressure is 98/64. No arthritis except a knuckle in one finger due to an injury. But what works for one person doesn't work for another. I'm 65, slim and don't feel any desire to overeat. My food is simple and plain. But I know that people with leaky gut can do well on a meat diet. But not enough is known about long term effects of all that animal proteins.

Plenty is known about the long term effects of sugars and seed oils in inflammation. None of it good. Google 'Cywes 380' to find out.

My LDL is over 700, but all my other lab values are good, low TRG, low weight. Yes my Dr. wants me on a statin. I refuse, I have been low carb most of my adult life. I may do carnivore in the future. My Dr. needs to get up to date.
