      @Oscar Rivers about what ? You just put hybrid mode on, you undervolt the most possible (mine is stable at -130mv) , I recommend you to put speed shift to "255" , then you do nothing but text editing and the CPU is running very low and you got 7h of battery life . Just be careful your backlit is disable and your brightness low :)

    My comment about this machine:
    1. Hot like hell! Even with undervolt and limiting power and settings 3.5ghz on a 4.5gh machine this toaster reach to 90C
    2. This is the worst 9750h machine. The msi, helios, hp. Etc can gaming at 3.988ghz with modera te undervolt! So this machine only can playing at 3.4ghz.

      Cpu intensive games like guild wars 2 where high cpu core frequency is key, I play in performance mode always @3.9-4.0ghz and no thermal throttling whatsoever (in this particular game cpu temps are also very good, 75-85 degrees). In games like overwatch, which is not cpu intensive, I don't even notice a difference in fps, overwatch epic settings is almost a 100 percent of the time at a constant 119-121 fps (it almost never changed more than 2-4 fps to the point that i thought I had capped it lol, I guess the game is just very well optimized) having run both performance and quiet, except my cpu runs cooler thus having my fans run quieter:). I think it really comes down to what type of games you're playing, but for gpu intensive games the quiet mode is really good:)

      1) the OC scanner in msi afterburner scan gave me a +132 mhz core clock speed boost
      2) Sometimes I run +100mhz on the core, + 300 mhz on the memory
      3) There's a great guide on reddit called ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE y540 and he has a gpu uv/oc curve but I find that fiddling with the curve was a bit complicated for me so yeah
      I never experience cpu throttling in the games I play, and sure temperatures can hit 90 degrees but for now I'm alright with it, I myself didn't need the underclock to 3500mhz on cpu, but I'm sure it will run quite a bit cooler doin' that:)!

    what's with the battery life on this laptop? The only reason I'd never buy it. If they can't put in a larger battery though could at least make some optimizations to power settings while unplugged like many other laptop OEMs do. Also they shoould really start offering options with a larger battery instead of having a hdd. The new Helios 300 and new Nitro 5 both have 2 M2 NVME slots for ssd-s, which have gotten much more affordable over the last few years, which means putting a bigger battery shouldn't be much of a problem anymore.
    It's weird though cause Jarrod got 6 hours from this laptop in the hybrid mode, while other reviewer, like you only got 4 hours. So I think most people can count on 4 hours, which is terrible for a new laptop. Also not being able to limit charge to 80%, and only yo 60... you get the idea.

      @@speedylordinc.3748 you don't know how this works, do you? There are tons of gaming laptops with same hardware that have like 25-30% better battery life with the same battery size. Heck, my Dell G3 can play videos from 5 to 6 hours with an average battery, same goes for the new Acer helios 300 and many Asus TUF laptops. The new Asus Zephirus with a decently powered Ryzen CPU gets around 7 hours of battery life, there are too many exampels to name. Today I saw a review for a laptop with an i7 9750h and a relatively small 56 watt hour battery from Dell that holds around 6-7 hours. So trust me, it mostly depends on laptop manufacturers rather than laws of physics. The manufacturers that make laptops with bad battery life either don't try hard enough\don't care or specifically increase power consumption so people would buy their more expensive laptops with larger batteries in them

    For a 60Hz panel, the i5 9300H with 1650 is a better choice right?
    I mean, will the i5 processor bottleneck if you pair it with a 1660Ti? What's the point in paying for a 144Hz panel if you don't get such high frame rates?

    • @sam9758
      @sam9758 Před 5 lety

      @@sam9758 So basically it comes down to this.
      If you have the money then go for a 144Hz - i7 - 1660Ti version. (Also, at this point, Acer Predator Helios 300 2019 will be a good choice too.)
      Or go for the 60Hz - i5 - 1650 version and use the extra money to get a faster & a higher capacity SDD, run dual channel memory and call it a day! 😂

      I recently bought the Y540 with the i5-9350h, 144Hz panel and 1660 Ti. I haven't experienced a bottle neck nor have I experienced any thermal throttling. I'm not trying to sound like a fanboy and if you can afford the upgrades by all means, do it!
      I'm currently playing wow classic on ultra and apex legends on high settings.
      Also play Forza Horizon 4 on Ultra and the 144 hz panel definitely makes a HUGE difference in game play and experience.
      it's all subjective but do you man!

    • @lemon777r
      @lemon777r Před 5 lety +2

      The i5 will not bottleneck the 1660ti, it's still a very very good processor for gaming, and is not significantly slower in games, it's a very small percentage. If you get the 1650 60hz makes more sense like you said, no point in 144hz without a fast GPU. Otherwise 9300h, 1660ti and 144hz is a very good combo for gaming.

    hey Stephen, im sorry to annoy you everytime but you helped find the perfect laptop pick few months ago and now it is time for the new monitor :D if i can abuse your professional opinion once more :D would be really greatful. Basically im lost between 2 monitors, i want 27'' but i dont know whether to get 2k or full HD. everyone is saying that 2k is the way to go on 27'' since the screen resolution is no good with full hd on such size (also i have alot of work on the computer and not only playing, i write alot ) so i am confused. not sure what to pick especially since there is a 100 $ gap between those 2 options. thank you in advance

      @OWNORDISOWN  Před 5 lety +1

      Hey Charbel,
      I'm not a monitor expert by any means but I do find it useful having the extra real estate that larger monitors brings. I quite like Ultra Wide ones, LG has some good software to split the screen into various smaller screens which is great for multitasking. There maybe third part apps to do the same on other monitors. Either way, I think a 2k panel is a good option, you can always game at 1080p should you wish. Naturally, for gaming you want one with a decent fast refresh rate if possible and either Freesync or Gsync.

      @@OWNORDISOWN thank you again for the fast reply ! Well i do want this 2k panel with 27''' although i am also worried that my 1060 GTX on my asus rog strix scar II will not able to handle a 2k resolution. what do you think ? and what is the point of a 144 hz rate monitor if i cannot reach that kind of FPS, that is what i was thinking but i also would like your opinion. And yes i know you can switch to 1080p but many said that you will be able to see pixels at 1080p on a 27'' screen and that texts and characters are illegile. Honeslty I do not care much about working on 2k panel but rather gaming on it, that's why i was thinking if it was worth getting the 27'' 1080p or going 24'' 1080p and saving a whole bunch of money until i get a proper desktop that can handle 2k. But again your opinion matters so i cannot wait for your input on this. thanks one more time !

      @OWNORDISOWN  Před 5 lety

      @@kharaf9920 I dont think the difference is huge between a 27" and 24", so gaming at 1080p I dont think the pixels will be a huge deal especially if you are not sitting too close. It's like it's my 38" ultra wide monitor.
      I thi k the most important thing is that you can do some kind of video sync, like Nvidia Freesync to stop tearing.
      At least then, you will have your higher monitor once you get your new GPU. I play at 2k with GTX 1080 fine, probably even a 1070 will be OK too.
