- Lesson 10: How cool is that!!! You can calculate your own personal counting factor for Bitterlich plots using your thumb on your streched out arm. With this simple calibration you are able to establish a Bitterlich plot and estimate the stand basal area without any device using your own thumb.

Isn't 7÷2.4=2.9... much simpler?
Unfortunately this is wrong! Try it with other values. In this case your result (2.91) is close to the correct 2.93, but only by chance. If you can provide a mathematical proof that (50*d/r)^2 = r/d*10 you can try to convince me... I am a friend of simplifying things, but this one is maybe too simple or i don't see it. But it's always good to question things!
