    When installing these locks take one serious issue into mind. Be totally familiar with being able to unlock your door to get out in an emergency. Practice unlocking it with your eyes closed while reaching up from the floor. I have investigated fatal fires where the deceased occupant was found at the door, unable to get out. There are those who say I'd do this or I'd do that but the truth is you never know how you will react until the situation arises. That is why home fire and safety drills are so important.

      Even with door trim, the unit can be mounted without mortising the trim. in most cases The mounting tab is fairly long, and the lock is designed with an angle on the backside to help with this. We've mounted it on a solid core door with aluminum frame and trim and had no issues. I've uploaded a few photos looking down on the lock so you can see the angle that should clear your trim. We use a freestanding door in a frame to make it easier for us to film.
      Kind of hard to explain, but the fixed bracket that screws to the frame sticks out past the edge of the door frame then sweeps back at 45 deg. so it should be able to clear most casings. The Home Depot website has a 360 deg. viewer for these that lets you see all the way around. You should be able to tell what I'm talking about there. www.homedepot.com/p/Prime-Line-Door-Reinforcement-Lock-3-in-Stop-Aluminum-Construction-Satin-Nickel-Anodized-Finish-U-10827/202258432

    folks you are forgetting something. This latch is not for security when you are away, it is for security when you or someone else is home. Also when an emergency requires entry to your home a window will be broken out. Additionally no lock will prevent your door from being kicked down. If that happens a mm with a full magazine is the preferred latch. it works quite well. I have installed many night latches, and this is the best one I have tried. the idea of the screws going in laterally instead of on the surface of the door frame gives the latch much more strength. The unlock/lock process is easily done by pulling the latch away from the latch plate.

    We live in a very old building and the clearing between the door and the wall trim is just enough for the lock to open at a 90 angle. Is it possible that the lock would close itself after we exit, for example, if the door is slammed, leaving us locked out?

    • @SpyderWebbX
      @SpyderWebbX Před 4 lety +1

      No. The lock is not free swinging. It’s captive with swing reinfocement when not in use. You have to really grab unto the lock and lift it to disengage from its safety pin to swing it to lock unto door.

      Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry, I meant that after installation, there is a gap in between the front of the door and the rubber pad that holds the door closed. I can't install it any deeper into the gap between the edge of the door and the door frame. I hope I'm making sense. lol..

    • @PrimeLineHowTo
      @PrimeLineHowTo  Před 7 lety +1

      I understand. If it's a wood frame door you can slot the door stop enough so that the door lock can slide further back into the frame and sits tighter to the door. It doesn't really have to be tight to work. A little space is fine.

    • @PrimeLineHowTo
      @PrimeLineHowTo  Před rokem

      There needs to be enough room between the door frame and the door for this part to work. You can trace the part, then remove it and use a chisel to mortise out a little bit of the door frame at a time until it doesn't rub anymore.
