Otis would've been absolutely huge in the 70's. He had a crossover appeal that was rare for black soul musicians. I think he ends up bigger than Marvin Gaye and rivaling Stevie Wonder, who dominated the decade in terms of solo artistry.
If Otis was alive in 70s, he will be a funk artist just like Stevie and James Brown. "Try a Little Tenderness" is a soul song with a little funk on it.
My love, Otis, he was the greatest soul man,I listen to his songs as often as I possibly can,he will always be remembered, rest in perfect peace my dear.
"These Arms of Mine"...…….most romantic, yearning, love song ever. Thank you, Otis...…..May God Rest Your Soul and Keep You Young Forever, as you will be eternal in our memories here.
Maybe he meant it was devastating and by habit included "kind of". What's your point here? We were all kind of devastated because we thought Otis Redding would live forever. Actually he has, through his music. Don't try to make him less than he was by inserting ridiculous comments about what a teenager thought at the time.
Sitting on the dock of the bay, although it's one of my favorite songs, now holds a sadder and more grim meaning to it. Although I'm 28, I was born and raised in the south and we in the black community would listen/dance to the "goodies but oldies" Al Green, Chaka Khan, ConFunkShun, Berry White, "The G.F.O.S", himself "Mr. Dynamite", "The Hardest Working Entertainer In Show Business" Mr. James Brown, and Mr. Otis Redding among many more. My wife and I dance to this song at our wedding reception for our first dance. But now knowing that my favorite part as a kid, the whistling part at the end, was bcz he was planning to add more lyrics in that place later on and had only began writing and recording it 2 days prior. This is heart breaking. But I still love the song. It's just sad that, as great as it is (nigh perfect), he never got to finish it. Reminds me of the song Aaliyah was working on a song exposing R. Kelly and planning to circumvent the gag order that her treacherous excuses for parents signed agreeing that neither they nor she would ever tell the truth about what happened. ALTHOUGH AALIYAH HAD NO FUKKN SAY IN THE MATTER. So she was writing the song and say Timbaland wrote it. But when she when she died in the plain crash she was in on the way back home, she, obviously, wasn't able to complete it. You wonder what genius, what emotions, what lyrics that would've added to our lives if they were alive and finished their songs.
My daughter father was murdered at 26yrs old...he had the SAME aged Look as OTIS Reddings....makes me wonder the meaning of an old Soul? Rip to both of them....to young...to soon💙💙💔🙏🏿
mr Otis Redding,s name is beautifully fitting an sounds right for his music and life time remembrance... upon his sad passing recorded song dock of bay release is amazing autobiographical life and times story is poignant...thank you for posting
Yes, James Brown, too. Bob Marley was killed by Illuminati, too. They injected him with a rare cancer. Otis would not join brotherhood. A few things beat him to death, then threw his body in the river.

He said "kind of" devastating.... kind of? Sir. No. There is no word in human language to explain the devastation of his loss.
Well Said.

One of the good ones.

Otis was just 26. Pilot was 26. The other 5 were his bandmates and were still in their teens. Tragic.
They killed otis

That Ain't No Secret 🤔🤔
The big - O-.
I didn't know the bar-kays was on the plane to
Keith Williams some of them. I think like half the band stayed in Memphis because the plane could not hold all of them. Only one survived.
Just thinking about that song Dock of the Bay an eerie feeling when you think about the fact of Otis Redding dying in a plane crash involving water.
$208 that's all
waykers 13 that was a good chunk of change in 1967.
So sad 🥀
🎤🎶💔🙏🏽❤
He died the same day that his idol Sam Cooke was gunned down.
also a day after john lennon dec8 different years tho
Sam Cooke death was on December 11 1964
