    Thank you, Douglas. I needed to hear this today. I've had a small, i.e., low-paying, "recovery" sort of job for the last 2 months. And funny, but at the very same time you were posting this video (10 a.m. here, back East), I was being fired from that job...for a trivial and honest mistake I made. It's a big company, and they couldn't make an exception for me. It was an unfortunate turn of events, but I'm hanging in there as best I can, and what you said here--and in all your other videos--is very helpful. Thank you, again, for your steady supply of good advice, encouragement, and compassion.

    Dr. Bloch: Thank you for the jokes with which you start your videos. I so thoroughly enjoy them. The joke for this particular video may seem a bit macabre, but I got used to that kind of humor sitting in A.A. meetings, and laughing at some of the scenarios alcoholics' survive, by the Grace of Higher Power, of course. A good sense of humor is definitely indispensable, among other things, if one is to survive in this world. And knowing that you understand, personally, the hell that depression is, I took the joke in the spirit it was intended. So as the English are fond of saying, "Not to worry." and please keep the jokes coming. I look forward to them, along with the encouraging words you offer. Thank you. Be Well.

    One of your best videos. Very good! I’ve been reading about post traumatic growth...the concept that you can be even better, wiser after your breakdown. Just one month ago I was suicidal and staying with my parents because I wasn’t “allowed” to be alone because of my suicidal statements. Just one month later, I am doing much better. I’m finally enjoying some of the things I used. The main difference is that daily activities were just distractions (coping skills), whereas now I can actually can engage in an activity. I still struggle at times, but it’s a huge improvement.

Psychological discomfort I experienced. It's like you want to be rescued from the discomfort you experienced but nobody cares about me and I'm helpless and can't get enough any support that I need. My family does not want to recognize the drama, they think it's a part of my symptoms. Because of other people, I'm suffering from this mental illness. My life is ruined and destroyed. I experienced anxiety then depression episodes this past five months. I slowly overcome my depression and take cognitive behavioral therapy to counter my negative thoughts and anxiety. This week, there is something trgiggering me. I can counter my negative thoughts ( which is part of my healing) but my problem now is that my feeling is not responding to my affirmitations and that influences my mind. I started ruminating again that what if i will always be like this. What if i turn myself having personality disorder like multiple disorder. What if i go crazy. What if i will hallucinate things ..... Please♥️♥️ any suggestion what i should do because im not feeling good right now.

    How do I know if I’m depressed or just a bad and lazy person. This is my 3rd really bad episode in 10 years. This time it really does feel like I’m not going to get better. It’s been 6 weeks now of walking through mud. I have a wonderful life and a lovely husband but I can’t shake this off.

    • @DouglasBloch
      @DouglasBloch  Před 5 lety

      You are not a bad or lazy person. Depression is a brain disorder, and it has nothing to do with willpower. You can get through this episode. What kind of treatments are you trying?

    • @beth3070

      I’ve been taking Prozac for about 16 years and then added mirtazipine a year ago. I honestly feel the Prozac does nothing. I’ve done CBT and other talk therapy in the past. We have recently moved so I’m now on a nhs waiting list for more talk therapy. I’ve started private therapy with “the human givens institute in York but have only had one session so far. The guilt of ruining my husbands life and not being able to see my 93 year old mum is killing me. I’m trying to go out each day for excessive. Today we walk on the beach for two hours. Exercise makes me feel even more exhausted and lonely. Guilt fear and loneliness occupy my brain continually. There are all sorts I could do to stop the loneliness but I just hide away...... I’m convince that I’m a mad lazy person who should have more will power to fight this. I’ve done this to my self for constantly feeling sorry for my self....... but thank you Doug for answering. Your blogs are amazing xx

      What is the human Givens institute? Have you considered TMS or ECT? They’re both effective. I’ve had the latter.

    Hello Mr. Bloch.. I'm also suffering from depression i believe, the worst symptom so far is the cognitive impairment.. I'm too tired to exercise and due to lockdowns I can't even go out, I'm all alone in the house and im unable to get to a psychiatrist either... Just wanna know from your experience whether my brain will recover once I get treatment?

    • @RababaInc
      @RababaInc Před 5 lety

      @@DouglasBloch so far I only had a 12 week stay in a psychosomatic clinic, 10 months of CBT, 4-5 years of antidepressants: tried Mirtazapin, but gained a lot of weight because of it, Venlafaxin, but it made me very tired and numb and now Citalopram for the longest time. With Citalopram I had quite a few sideffects in the beginning, such as excessive sweating, loss of libido etc.
      but I do have the impression that it also influences my empathy, creativity, sensitivity, etc.
      I am currently on a low dosage of 10mg and am in a psychosomatic clinic again for (hopefully) up to 12 weeks. so I would have a good setting to try getting rid of them, but the doctor/psychologist here (of course) recommends me to increase the dosage to 20mg.
      I am not sure what to do because I know it may help me in certain ways but I also feel that it numbs me, which might influence therapy but most importantly me and my experience of life.

      During my last depressive episode, I was sure that I would never get better. Then I did.
      A woman I know found love again twelve years after her husband died.
      Joan and I were divorced in February of 1996. In August, I finished my grieving and finally let go. Then, the following month, I had an adverse reaction to an antidepressant and plummeted into a bad depression. I asked Joan to move in and take care of me until I got better. We have been together ever since. We never know what is just around the corner. Sometimes it is an unexpected blessing.

    I'm not sure if the discomfort is a part of my illness or it's a side effect of medication? I want a free online counseling program but I think it's not available in my country. I been traumatized because of the public humiliating events I witnessed on TV and CZcams. It's all my fault, I have nothing else to blame. I regret that I speak carelessly. They been angry with me and for them suicide is a punishment for all of my mistakes and my sins. Public Humiliation is worse than suicide. I suffered too much and I think it's enough for all of my sins and mistakes. But if you still want a revenge and destroyed my life and my future you can easily just kill me, go ahead and shoot to kill. Literally go ahead and shoot to kill. No one can stop you and I can't prevent it from happening. It's easy, rather than destroying my life and my future.
