Coming from York, England we covered this so much in school right down to the minute battle plans of each battle. It was hard going at the time but it served me well in pub quizzes later on. There is a saying that history is written by the winners and that history is not just in the past but also today so with this in mind there are 2 events that prove how unreliable (not all) written history can be.
For Henry VII to gain popularity after his win at the Battle of Bosworth over Richard III his spin doctors went to town and made Richard III a real evil man. The demise of the 2 young boys who Richard III (Duke of Gloucester at the time) was protecting by 'locking' them up in the Tower of London (this 'locking' word should be contested because the Tower was also a Royal residence) was actually the 12yr old King Edward V and his 10yr old brother. Richard was their protector as there was a war on and they were targets, Richard took this role very seriously so to protect his Nephews he declared them Bastards and took the crown for himself, making himself the target instead of the boys. The boys were seen playing in the Tower long after Richard made himself King.
The 2 boys mysteriously disappeared though and it was thought that Richard killed them which doesn't make sense, it was more likely Henry VII had them killed as he couldn't have made himself King while they were still alive. History and Shakespeare will have us believe it was Richard that murdered them but we must remember who Shakespeare was writing for...Elizabeth I, the Grandaughter of Henry VII and he couldn't write anything else if he wanted to keep his head!
History tells us that Richards body was torn apart and thrown into a river, but in 2012 his intact skeletal remains were found in Leicester (confirmed by DNA testing) under a car park which was once a Grey Friars Priory so someone attempted to give him some dignity in death and he was given a proper burial in Leicester Cathedral in 2015.
On a side note, in 1674 the skeletal remains of 2 young children were found in a box in the wall of the south tower, King Charles II had them buried in Westminster Abbey. Today, we still do not know if these are indeed the remains of the 2 young boys and historians want to test the bones but the church refuse to move them so this will remain a mystery forever.
Sorry this is so long but it's my favourite subject.

A song of ice and fire/ game of thrones is based on the war of the rose’s, the York’s are the Starks and the Lancaster’s are the Lannister’s. For example of Edward marrying the widow in still of his intended, this is like Robb Stark marrying someone other then his intended Frey.

The red wedding was a real event in Scotland... All GRRM did was spin fantasy and dragons, the basic war of kingdoms, enemy over the sea, barbarians to the north, the wall all exist in history...

Yup, Games of Thrones is basically British history with a fantasy skin slapped over it lol.
Also, this is the very, very, very vague and brief version of War of the Roses. This is one topic in history which gives most of us hand cramp in school because there's so much to cover in such a short space of time lol.

The Earl of Warwick was nobility and one of if not the richest of all of them (York was also one of the richest). Warwick and York were both owed thousands on debt from the crown, money given to help with the war effort

I recently found your channel mate, its good that you are interested in our history. Just to let you know that the narrator kept miss-pronouncing Warwick. Pmsl. Warwick is my home town, and I cringed every time he said Warwick. Lol. For a little sleepy town Warwick has a lot of history. It's most famous for its Castle. The castle is open to the public, and you can actually stay there. It also has live shows, jousting, sword fighting etc. They actually do a war of the roses show. It is also home to the world's largest trebuchet which they use as part of a show. If you are interested, Google Warwick Castle.

If you grow up in the UK you only learn bits of the country's history at school, but you are surrounded by it and its referred to all the time. Where I live there are: Iron Age forts, Roman walls and buildings from all ages - and I live in the arse end of no where. Its just part of the place and easily taken for granted.

I can trace my family line all the way back to 1400, my ancestors lived in a small farming village in Southwest England. I wonder how they felt about all of this madness, no doubt most of the males of my family like all other men of the time had to fight against their own country folk. A terrible time for all.

To have any understanding of Henry VIII and his multiple marriages you need to have an understanding of the wars of the roses.
It had the bloodiest battle on English soil with towton and was an incredibly savage war. Henry's father didn't really have a great claim on the thrown until he married into the woodvilles. The north were really for Richard iii. Everyone would have remembered the war and Henry VIII wasn't even brought up to be king. His kingship would have been extremely tenuous at best with the thought of war always in the back of his mind. He needed that son.

There's nothing that an English person loves more mate than someone from another Country who is interested in our history and wants to learn. A level headed Englishman (or Woman) can admit there is a lot wrong with England both now and historically, however there is also a hell of a lot to be proud of considering how small an Island we are. Looking forward to this video as I don't know as much about this as I should. Tbh if someone said tell me about the War of the Roses, I'd say it had Kathleem Turner, Danny DeVito, and Michael Douglas in it, that's all I could tell you lol. PS - After watching the video, don't beat yourself up Connor, I watched it with you and I'm still confused as f*ck mate tbh.
