- China is diagnosed with Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome. As a result, she is missing part of her 4th chromosome and is nonverbal.
This hasn’t prevented China from influencing those around her with her innately loving nature.

I appreciate her dad’s honesty about their struggle to cope with their original expectations not being met. And it was also nice to hear about China proving then wrong and succeeding in her own way.
Me too! It's a challenge for everyone, for sure... being blessed with special babies brings up all kinds of emotions throughout the family unit. I'm so grateful to everyone for sharing and being so candid so as to teach the world how to cope💜

I'm surprised that no one has pointed this out yet but if you pay attention to her eyes at 9:39 you can see that she's actually blinking along to the music. You can tell that she really feels and anticipates the cadence. It's so fascinating.

I noticed that right away too. Wow, how sweet was that. So many people think a child with severe disabilities are a burden, or abnormal or whatever. But I tell them, no, they are not. They are a blessing in this world, and to be cherished!

Everytime I see Chris's interactions with these children I just get the feeling that he is an angel of love as he shows immense love and compassion for them. I just felt like this young girl was absolutely Smitten by Chris. This husband-and-wife did an awesome job raising their son as evidenced by the love and care he has for his sister.

He is a very good soul...just like everyone he meets and interviews...pure love and kindness radiate from him. It would be a true pleasure to meet him.

I volunteer at a group home and one of my favorite residents is a 43 year old woman with Wolf-Hirschhorn. As I watched this video, it was like watching her. She's absolutely the sweetest girl, and loves her music too. I have made a playlist of her favorites, and we "rock out" to them together. China is simply beautiful and lovely.
My sister has this syndrome and is 61. She is always happy and is doing well.
The brother and sister love brings tears to my eyes. Mum too. What a beautiful family!

My third cousin has this syndrome too!! I've never seen someone else with her condition and they actually look alike a bit but they have different personalities. Maggie loves to talk !!

You can tell in China's eyes, she's in there looking out and liking what she hears and sees. I'm sure that in the inside she is reacting but it just doesn't make it to her facial muscles all the time or her vocal chords. She's beautiful. Lovely family.

Her Brother is a special guy: so sweet and beautiful.
I can't stress enough how important your work is. My sister has mild cerebral palsy, and although she has pursued higher education in multiple fields, she often expresses frustration at her limitations, e.g., fine motor skills. She always studies so hard and has no problem passing classes, but when she enters into practical experience situations, she becomes very anxious and loses control when she needs to be calm and cool. She always excuses herself by saying that she is ill, but in reality she is just dealing with that incredible anxiety and helplessness that goes along with disability. How can I help my sister without making her feel helpless?
I think you may help her understand that everybody has strengths and weaknesses, and the fact that she's anxious about practical sessions means that she cares and it shows good effort and a drive to succeed
I think you should help her focus on things that she can do independently by herself and maybe find more ways that she can be independent. If her issue is not being able to have control over what she can't do, then we just need to help her be creative. Writing about whenever she is anxious and when she is anxious may also help. It helped me to really figure out what's going on and fix whatever I need to do. She is smart, I'm confident she can find a way.
I adore dad’s truthfulness of the situation, but that he is happy she can come kayak and do water slides with the family. And as Chris reads her a book, she has her elbow on him, and gives him a high five. Subtle as she is on things, means the world to her family, since it’s her way of communicating

I worked with someone who has this syndrome and it is so nice to see representation of it. The girl I worked with was verbal and also used AAC to talk as well.
Chris is such a kind-hearted person: we need more people like him, who make the effort: a lovely video, and a lovely family.

I agree with her mom. China knows what is going on and understands more than most people probably give her credit for. She makes eye contact, attempts to communicate, and even plays the game with her brother when she wants a drink. Lol
Yes. And that's why I think some of what was said in front of her should not have been said, like when her dad quoted her mom as saying China will never have friends. I have a high opinion of China's father-he seems warm and loving; I just wish he'd be a bit more careful with his words around China.
They really should be more careful, yes. She may not be able to talk but that doesn’t mean much.

Great video. You are so loving and respectful. As a grandma of a child with CP. Zak is 18 and has never walked, is verbal but hard to understand, only uses his left hand. He graduates in May. Thank you for all you do.

I always find magical how music calms and interacts with so many kids and adults with disabilities
Your videos are extremely educational the world is not taught about all these disabilities and disorders. We only know the most commons ones. You are teaching the world about the differences among humans. This information is not taught to us as we grow into adults. Lack of understanding is one of the reasons why people stare at people whom are different but feel more ignorant to ask what is thier condition. This platform gives viewers a chance to expand their knowledge of all the medical and physiological differences that effect humans.
When the dad talks about how he and his wife used to be sad that China will "never have a best friend, never get married, never have a baby" etc. It made me think... You could say those things for a lot of "typical" people, too. You never know what a person will be or do or have in life. Nothing is guaranteed
That does happen for some people without those struggles, but the possibilities are there in a way they aren't for some
I think China really enjoyed when the guitar was played for her. She probably has a lot of thoughts when shes hearing music like when her mother plays the piano.
Love how much she enjoyed listening to you play. It would of been like a one on one concert for her. Very special. Keep doing what your doing. Changing people's perspectives on people that are different/ unique.

Yes, come play some tom petty on your guitar for us chris! Seriously though, this man has done some good in this world and I can't imagine all of the lives it has touched.
We have 2 boys. One affected by autism. He's high functioning but impacted.. We hope he achieves his dreams, and finds love, and all those things that make a fulfilling life. We help and support him as much as possible. I just worry about when me and his mom have passed..
If it makes you feel better, I have high functioning autism and have a doctorate degree, a hybrid job that allows me to work from home when needed, and I live independently. The academics came easy but I did have to work really hard at other things. Keep surrounding him with love and support. ❤

This family makes my heart swell. There is an abundance of support and love and they seem to know how to fill their own cups while being a close family.
This makes my heart smile 😊 she is wonderful and very special I have 3 teenage boys with special needs i used to feel down about them and wonder why but now I’m focusing on the positive things and advocating for them. It can be challenging but it’s worth it.

China receives love and appreciation for who she is by many people and this is something that many people don't ever experience, being with disabilities or not. Her life has a purpose. She does not need to get married or have children. Many of us are single with not many friends around as most are married with kids. Watching SBSK's amazing kids gave me a purpose in life. These children are a marvel to me for what they can accomplish every single day. Nothing is for granted, we can be in this situation too one day as we will grow old. The parents are also an excellent source of strength. All kids are angels. May you all be blessed.
