Good information. Going on our first cruise. Narrowed it down to RCL and NCL. Mostly because one family member went on Carnival a while back and isn't a fan. Plus if I was going CCL I'd have to go newer ship meaning $$$. After looking dates and ports we ended up on NCL. It's a early summer 2024 cruise, looking to sail out of Florida ports, and RCL is pushing Icon and Wonder OTS's hard. Only options were Adventure OTS and Freedom OTS. Niece wants water slides and wanting an earlier date ruled out Freedom. Slightly annoyed as I wanted RCL to be our first shot. I think CocoCay is the best private island with a 9-10 year old kid that likes water slides.
All that said after debate of NCL Sky vs Jade vs Breakaway, I decided on Breakaway. Jade and Sky seemed nice, but lacked some amenities needed with a pre-teen/child. I'm hoping the ship doesn't feel too tight on space. Probably get a Vibe pass for three adults and get up early to get decent loungers. Good information for next cruise. Still want to try RCL.
Wow, first time I've heard this info on any videos. Had to look it up and you are right - gross tonnage refers to volume of enclosed space on ships - so size/space and not weight as I had always presumed.

The new big ships have done a good job in making them feel like they are not super crowded.... except in certain places.
I think you’re right.
We were on the Mardi Gras and it was pretty good, but the piano bar and comedy club were way too small for a ship that size.
@@SandySunTravel That is exactly our feelings! Those locations are just to small for that size of ship!
Boarding and dinner time seems to be the only time the big ships feel crowded. The rest of the time it was fine.
They definitely feel crowded at those times.
Have you been on the Carnival Mardi Gras or Celebration? We felt like there were times that other areas felt crowded on them, too
