Luxury Tiny House Leaves Little To Be Desired

  • The Tiny Luxury House in Davenport, Florida doesn't fail to deliver on its name. The entire tiny house is completely wifi enabled which means you can control every part of the home via your phone or The Amazon Alexa. I absolutely love the custom wooden tub that can be removed when not needed or wanted. The custom stained glasswork throughout is in my opinion...awesome. I'd like to thank Adam, the owner of New Beginning Tiny Homes for the tiny house video tour!

72,000!!! So now the more popular these tiny homes get the higher the prices, ridiculous! Pretty soon they'll approach the price of a regular home!

+Taylor Every home anyone buys was built with "the luxury of someone else building it for you." For 20,000 more my sister in Houston bought a HUGE house with wrought iron fence, recessed lighting, 4 bedrooms, bar, spacious Florida room apart from the living room, Jacuzzi and a very spacious back yard. Real estate is said to be location first regarding the price and this is a mobile home. I'm "one of those people" that doesn't fall for the advertising bullshit.

Dan Seabreeze agreed, it almost seems companies like this are jacking the price because of the "fad" aspect. I know that in some parts of Arizona, full sized 1800sq ft homes are selling for $100k that seems like a lot but they are in great areas, near schools and amenities, with a smaller yard but including a pool! Sure it's not as nicely finished inside as this little guy but hey, you don't have to fold tables away or climb ladders. Not to insult this tiny home, the craftsmanship is well beyond what I could do, $72k just sounds a little too hefty, considering the investment potential. What's the resale going to be when the fad dies down?

I am looking into building a van out and am always concerned with insulation, and is there a comfortable place to sit? The CZcams videos have taught me to be concerned about these issues. I think after watching a full length movie on the couch included with this house, would have you out shopping the same day. Without at least a slanting back rest, be it with wood or cushions... well I know I would be in a world of hurt. There are some nice features, if this person has an active lifestyle and come home to fall into bed, all the better.

This tiny house wasn't obviously made for someone that's looking for an affordable home. It has high end finishes and that comes with a price. There are a lot of people that are wealthy that are looking into a tiny house living because it's a more simple way of life not because it's necessarily more affordable.

@@tarkiss What are you referring to? all smart phones track monitor and listen to everything by AI. Its just that most people don't care that their "smart devises" upload and download from the internet without their knowledge or consent. Or that they are monitored for "Advertising purposes". I just got a newer top of the line phone and it puts out so much EMF radiation full time that I have to leave it in airplane mode. And still charge its huge battery every day or it dies. My old flip phone last for weeks on end with less than one quarter of the battery
I think if you told most people that EMF radiation is a carcinogen and young women are potentially doing epigenetic damage to 98% of the human race by slowly microwaving all their reproductive eggs, carrying these dangerous devices around in their back pockets, to avoid getting breast cancer from sticking them in their bra like they used to. They would absolutely refuse to even consider the notion any more than back in the day if you told people cigarets where bad for them, or DDT pesticide was potentially harmful. They would just look at you like you're nuts, and if you go back much further they kill you if you won't agree with things like flat earth theory. So when these devices become increasingly more dangerous to our health each year (and they undeniably are), at what point have we passed the apparent face value convenience we so love?.
The key to health is nutrition, exercise, and environment. These days many seem to think that means wear a hypoxia inducing immune system weakening, germ Petri dish face covering so they don't spit on anyone they accidentally get too close to. Or if you want to get serous, you wear your dust mask wile driving in your car by yourself, so you don't catch a virus from yourself lol. I'm not ashamed of those people, I'm ashamed of their parents. I mean it clearly doesn't take a genius to calculate how well a 3-5 micron filter will work to slow a 0.1 micron airborne virus. Not quite as good as a chain link fence against mosquitos. Ok I'll stop now since I ran off on a complete tangent or fifty.

I love this tiny home in so many ways. There are many clever solutions to address storage issues, and in particular I love the interior decor. But there is one thing I HATE, (and in fact you'll see it in 95% of tiny homes) this being no exception -- and that is a sleeping loft.
Allow me to elaborate -- I am 70+ years old and at my age I need to relieve my bladder a couple of times every night. So climbing and descending a ladder for a pee is in no way appealing -- heck, I could break a hip falling from the ladder. Well, I guess I could have a pee bottle.
So of course YOUR next question is, well, why would you (I) consider a tiny home that doesn't suit your needs in the first place? And the obvious answer is that I would not.
And then MY question is -- why, why is NO ONE designing tiny homes for the fastest growing and soon to be the LARGEST demographic --seniors, who want to downsize in their retirement.
This home is fine and dandy for millennials, but what about the future and rapidly growing market for retirees? Someone, (most everyone), is missing the boat by not recognizing/addressing this expanding market. Hey there is a LOT of money to be made! First one on board??

The problem is the gubments of the land hate change and love corruption. Tiny homes quickly turned into "stealth homes" because The Man hates them. This has the side effect of there being zero mass producers of tiny homes. Not even local producers. All you ever see are individuals making their own. The people making their own aren't on the verge of retirement, so you don't see any like that. Once enough millionaires and billionaires pay off enough politicians to allow us in the "land of the free" to live this lifestyle, you might see them more commonly produced (and therefore 5 times as expensive). And thus more options, like ones for people with mobility issues, or who just don't want to climb a ladder to go to bed ( I sure as hell don't, nothing but bad memories from the Navy with ladder-to-bed living.) This is the simple fact. You see these tiny homes doubling as mobile homes, parked in distant land or secondary on private land, it's because local ordinances are telling people to fuck off with their tiny homes.

For some people, it's not necessarily about saving money or the price, it's about the lifestyle that they desire for themselves. I live in Seoul, South Korea and I pay about $1000 per month for my tiny one room apartment. Sure it's tricky if you live in the city but what is someone gonna do with a tiny house in the city? I thought the whole reason was to take this house wherever to not have to pay for a mortgage. My husband and I looked at an RV and a Top of the line RV costs about $300,000 (not including taxes)!! That is almost the price of our 3,300 sq ft home ($330,000) and 7 acres of land with a pond in town. We live in the Midwest just outside of Kansas City, MO. Plus with a tiny home, you don't have to worry about oil changes, huge tires and the constant maintenance of an RV! I haven't compared insurance prices on a tiny house compared to an RV, but I would think the tiny house is cheaper. You can however get a nice smaller used RV with some mileage on it for around $60,000. My husband and I are looking into retiring into a tiny house or tiny cottage, once our girls are moved out of our home. We have a 17 and 12 year old, so it will be a few more years. 😊

I think 72k is pretty high priced but that's just my opinion, I mean most people live in these things cause they don't have enough money for a real house (like myself) I paid 6 grand for a pre-built but empty tiny house and put another 4 grand into building the inside to make it look as good as this, but mines actually bigger than this one. so 10k got me the same thing just a tad bit less fancy. I really don't see where the other 62 grand is at....especially considering mine is even bigger.

    • @DownTheRabbit-Hole
      @DownTheRabbit-Hole Před 6 lety +2

No offense to everyone....but I hate to burst your bubble. I am a former plans examiner and building inspector....You will not be able to move this down the road..they would have to be recognized as a motor home and be inspected by DMV...very unlikely that they would pass "roadworthiness" inpsections. Perhaps a moving permit for each haul would work. What a hassle. Secondly, there is no juristiction in USA that will allow these permanently without some sort of inspection. Do you really think that anyone that owns a house will want one of these next door dropping their property value? The only way to do this is shotgun them in illegally. Storage sheds can be 120sf, but they are not considered habitable. Why spend 50 grand on something that is illegal. Another dumb, fantasy world idea. Here is a hot tip...get a freaking legal travel trailer or RV and keep it legally in a RV or Trailer park. I absolutely guarantee a neighbor will see somebody living in Teeny house and report it anonimously to code enforcement. Happens all the time.

White lives matter 15K my ass, let's break it down a bit, these are all conservative estimates:
      3 axle trailer: 1.5k
      Washerdryer combo 1k
      Ac: 600
      Hardwood(less labour cost) 500
      Windows 1k
      Fridge: 600,
      Lighting: 3-400
Bathroom tile and tub: easily 3-4k
      Insulation: 300
      Wood for custom storage: 600
Building materials for floor walls and roof: 5k
      Fixtures, and hardware: 250
      Furnishings: 1500,
Oven, stove sink and kitchen counters: 3.5k
That adds up to about 19.5k easily on very conservative numbers not taking into account cost of labour or installation of any municipal amenities, no way in hell you're building this for less than 25k absolute minimum even if you do all the labour yourself, 76k for the Time it took to build this and the level to which it is finished really isn't that unreasonable

I live in Florida, & you ain't eva lied!! I'm kind of on the middle ground with tiny homes. I don't like tight spaces where I feel I can't move around freely. But on the other hand, I like the idea that if one wanted to move, you can just rent a heavy duty pick up or a semi (depending on how tiny the tiny home is), hitch the home to it, & transport the entire house to where you want to move without having to pack everything in boxes or hire movers, & you don't have to look for another house to live in; you just take the entire house with you!! Of course, you can really live anywhere but a trailer park or buy a plot of land off to itself because I assuming most traditional neighborhoods with their rules of appearance, aren't gonna permit a house that isn't on par with the other traditional homes that are not based on the models offered with the subdivision. Especislly if the othee homes are immovable & yours is on a flatbed with wheels. But I like being able to pay for it much easier than a traditional hime & being debt free.

Very nice craftsmanship, but a few design suggestions:
    -Solar panels on the roof.
    - The lift up stove cover should be on hinges, with the underside having a ceramic tile back splash.
-Put the TV on a swivel, so it can be used in the bunk area, or face the living area.
-The bench and folding dining table area need to be reconfigured to make an extra sleeping area. Maybe a Murphy bed or a conversion sleeper (sofa to bed) where the bench is?
-Uhm, did I miss the A/C???
-The price is steeeeeeep. Small single family homes/condos/trailer homes (all w/ more sq ft.) can be found for similar prices.

Carbon Monoxide detectors need to be located near the floor, useless up that high.

    • @Well_possibly
      @Well_possibly Před 7 lety +1

What a home inspector said on YT is to install them as per the manufacturer's instructions. Carbon Monoxide is only slightly heavier than the rest of the air, so in homes it easily gets kicked up higher. You might see what your insurance company is comfortable with.

During several home builds over the years, several plumbers and HVAC installers have told us this and explained in detail. At night especially, when no one is moving around.

Hells favorite angel mike I have heard this from my husband as he also is an inspector for a fire alarm company. Only makes sense... only reason I can think of not to put it that low is because of children messing with them. My kids would anyway! Lol

One of the best designed tiny home I have seen. I personally want a longer one with a down stairs master. I have had RV's 38 feet and no problem driving them at 102 inches wide. If I get a tiny House someday I will have a 40 foot length for sure.

LondonCalling - exactly. It's all relative. In some areas 72k will buy you something but in other areas it will buy you nothing. What people need to keep in mind is that this is best for those who travel and want a small home with them

You're willing to travel around with a $72,000 liability??? Be my guest. Personally, I'd rather not spend that kind of cash on something mobile. RV, third-wheel, or otherwise.

This is definitely pretty, beautiful craftsmanship and the builder/artist is very talented but all of the excesses seem to go against (and defeat) the frugal spirit of the original "tiny house" (minimalistic, efficient, reclaimed, hippie-trippie, etc ), I'm pretty sure is worth the asking price (or more), still, not a "tiny house" at heart but a miniaturized home or an RV with identity issues....

Yea, for dumb people who cant afford anything else it must look like a dream. Its gonna smell, its gonna be dirty all the time and you wont be able to have a family nor have room for things you might need or want that dont fit in a cupboard. Its a dead end.

@@86CorvusLow income families are not stupid. Perhaps, you have lots of money and cannot understand why those with low incomes have to budget. Many people who live in tiny houses are very happy as that kind of living allows them to do what they want. If one is fastidious about cleanliness, no reason why tiny houses would need to be dirty. I find it absolutely amazing how much stuff can actually fit into a tiny house. It takes creativity on the owner's part.
