I grew up in Cripple Creek my family had businesses there from 1947 until 2013. It was nice to see a video that wasn't just about ghosts. A lot of the history of Colorado centers around Cripple Creek, Victor and Goldfield.

@@LostandRemote My grandparents and parents had the Imperial Hotel and Cripple Creek Hospitality House. The Imperial Hotel had the longest running Melodrama in United States before my grandparents sold the hotel in 1993. The Cripple Creek Hospitality House was the old Teller County Hospital and my parents ran that as a Bed and Breakfast for many years after the Imperial Hotel sold. It is still in operation on the outskirts of town and the new owners have done a great job continuing the traditions and even making the place better. I would suggest staying the night there sometime as it is a great old building.

@@kirmack We stayed there back in 1999 as we had been given a couple night's stay there as wedding gifts from the owners at that time. We actually stayed in the designated Nursery room and while I didn't hear anything due to sleeping, my wife swore that she heard footsteps above us at 3 am-ish and we were on the top floor. She said that they sounded like the steps of a nurse wearing hard soles walking quickly back and forth. And then she heard in the room, squeaky and rattle sounds like from kids' toys. She has never been prone to believe in ghosts, but she swears that the Hospitality House is definitely haunted and has no desire to go back there again. I would love to and stay awake this time to see if I can hear anything weird :)

Victor was the only place in the US that had a bull fight. I was born there and as back in the day, everyone went to prom because there weren’t enough people. Got to love the air up there. There’s wonderful trout fishing at Skagway Reservoir not too far out of town. I remember trying to get a cougar onto the enclosed back porch…. calling “Here Kitty Kitty”. Needless to say my grandmother was not a happy camper about that little fiasco! lol

Hold onto your hat. I was in Victor in the mid-1960's. There were just a few people that lived there but we had pulled a camper up there and since one of my mother's old school friend lived up there we camped in her front yard and stayed for several days. On the second day I asked my father if I could walk thru the main street and come back. As I was walking thru the center of the old town I would look down the alley way off of the main street. Then when I took a glance down one side street to my right I saw a beautiful girl on a pale white horse. She was the same color of the horse and she looked my age.. I was maybe 11-12 and I just wanted to talk. When I got to the next side street to my right there she was again. When I got to the third side street she was not there. I ran down to the end of the alley and looked for her and saw nothing. I looked for hoof prints and saw none. It bothered me a lot because it would have been nice to spend a few days talking with her. There were not any kids my age in that town. When I got back to the ladies house I went in and there was my dad and mom talking with her friend. I described to my dad about the neat old buildings and then I told them all about this very cute girl on a pale white horse and that she was pale looking also but very cute. The lady asked me to repeat it all again and then she paused for a while and told me and my mom and dad that there was none one in the town like that and that no one had horses up there. Then she told us the town was haunted and what I must have seen was a ghost that took the form of the young girl and the horse. Then she asked me what were you thinking about when you went for your walk. I told her a girl back in Indiana that I missed some. Then she told me that when I when down there again to make sure your mind is clear. This story is the Gods truth !!!

How many times have I visited these towns. We went there every summer I was growing up and it never got old. Later, I drove all over the hills while the old mines were still there and have hundreds of photos of them. They are almost all gone now. It seems the Cresson mine was the center of the gold. The railroads had no faith in the Cresson at the time and wouldn't even build a branch up to it. Now it is the center of the huge strip mine pit and still digging. I'm glad I have so many photos of the old mines; you could drive all over the place. Beautiful video, sharpness and color.

Awesome video!!The old St.Nicholas hotel is definitely haunted,It used to be a hospital! my friends grandma took care of the place when it was abandoned in the 90s. I used to live on the same street. It was a blast growing up there! If you stay on the 3rd floor you can hear a little girl running up and down the halls at 3am! And there is an underground tunnel that goes to the church across the street. The rumor is they did experiments on people and transported them back and forth through the tunnel☠️ also the imperial hotel is haunted as well!

You should have seen Cripple Creek and Victor in the mid 70s when I lived in Teller County, it was raw and not gussied up with casinos like it is now. You could go into a lot of the mine works in the surrounding hills and still see the old equipment still in place from when they were abandoned years ago.
No trip into Cripple Creek and Victor was complete until you drove the Gold Camp road down into Colorado Springs. This was the old narrow guage railroad bed complete with tunnels and I understand some of these have collapsed now.

My parents lived in Victor for many years. They are both gone now, but I'm looking for someone who lived there and knew Bob and Colleen Maxwell. My dad passed in 2005, and my mom moved to TN with me, and then passed in 2010. We now are looking for a picture of the house they lived in. I think it was on 4th Street, but no map of Victor shows the front of the houses. Hoping someone knows where they lived and can tell us the address. They only used the P.O. Box for getting mail.

To even think mining was considered ok is beyond me. I've been to many ghost towns, and they are that way because of the depth of sadness, that ignornace of drilling up on the land in all the wrong ways has grave consequences. It pollutes the water, kills the land, and polutes the skies, and takes souls with it.

Cripple Creek was never the capital of Colorado. It's always been Denver. It came close to being the capital, but Denver got the prize.
I really do like your video and the scenes, but you also got a few other historic parts wrong.
Lived in both Cripple Creek and Victor for several years, until 1991, and my friends, and I, would go up there from Colorado Springs back in the 70's to explore all of the old buildings and mines......Before the mine took it all over and removed all of the great historical buildings and mines on that mountain. Now it's just an empty pit for the sake of money. Such a great loss of history.
Winfield Scott Stratton, the owner of the Stratton mine next to Victor had a theory and he called it the "wine glass theory" He had the idea that the center of the caldara where the minerals had come up from was the stem of the wine glass and might have the largest concentration of gold ore. while the areas that were mined was merely the top of the wine glass where the minerals had spread out. He began to buy up as many mines as he could, but died before he could test his theory. His theory was centered around the old Cresson mine, and after looking at google earth of the new mining operation, it sure seems to be centered over the old Cresson mine now.
After knowing the district like I did, and the history of that once great mining district, It truly is a shame they let that mine destroy what was there. Big money talks, History walks......But Cripple Creek and Victor, along with many of the smaller towns, will always hold a very special place in my heart and some great memories.
