  • After much though, I think this is the best G-Shock. For small wrists, and regular wrists too! So here is my Casio G-Shock GW-M5610 review, along with an overview of all the features of the watch.
This G-Shock has it all: rectangular (like the original DW-5000), Tough Solar and Radio Controlled. For the price, you really can't go wrong.

Had mine for about two years now....and have worn it every single day, work and play. It's a little knocked about but nothing, nothing can stop this thing, relentless! Been open water swimming in November, (England), trips away to places, I build railways in all weather, been covered in sludge, grease, baking hot summers, wear it in the gym and have it with me in the shower, scrub it clean, lots of times slept with it to keep time at hand. A watch for the apocalypse! Tried and tested, set and forget. Wear it proudly. Perfect time whenever, wherever. It's an absolute testimony to Casio, to Japan, and to all those that can only afford one watch...get this one!

@@Jamie-2004 well I don't really know for sure myself, and I can't remember what the warranty is even for either, think it's warranty is five years on the lithium cell. But there are people out there who have had their watches for 10,12,13 years and they still going! You also got to keep in mind that people I know that have had even just the regular cheaper Casio watches, and who's batteries are not rechargeable cells and warranty for also about 5 years, but cos they haven't used the backlight a lot, one feature that does use a bit of energy, it's 12 years and still going! So I really don't think it's even a concern. You also got to look at it this way: sometimes they come up on specials and they sell for 80 pounds or dollars...but generally go for the 90 pounds Stirling or dollar region. Now, if you get 10 years out of it, that 8 odd pound or dollars a year! And if it goes for 12 or 15 years it's even cheaper, like 5 or 6 or 7 a year! Hell, you'll be doing a lot better than those folks that like to buy 20 dollar watches every 6 to 8 months. Sure, some people have ended up with a bad one and only have gotten something like 3 or 4 years out of their unit due to some or other malfunction, and wherever they got it from doesn't really wanna know, but these are very very few and far between believe me. I've seen videos on how people change their cell out for a fresh one as well. It can be done, by researching and purchasing a new rechargeable lithium battery and following the video, one has to depress the little button with a tiny pin down below the board for a few seconds to reboot the watch, and making sure the seal is clean and in place without being twisted (I recommend gently pulling the seal between your finger and thumb that's only lightly damp with a bit of vaseline first) and screwing the case back down evenly much like one does with wheel nuts. But after 10 years service one should really celebrate with a new unit 😃

Easy fix for the strap end is to heat up with lighter 🔥 then immediately begin to bend the end until it curves and conforms to the actual size of your wrist let it cool off. The end will no longer stick out. I do that with all my Casios due to small wrist😉👍🏼

I wore it every day to work (I put up farm buildings and do all the ground works ) its been bashed about and exposed to all kinds of abuse including vibration from impact guns and breakers its been covered in concrete , mud and cement and is still going strong until I tried to change the strap with a flat head screwdriver and knackered the pin holes in the lugs . just bought a knew one about an hour ago for £94.99. this watch is nearly indestructible and in my opinion the best gshock money can buy , I had bought a different gshock cos I fancied a change but didn't like it so sent it back and got this one again.

I own two G-Shock 5610's and have had them for a year now, one of them is this particular watch you have reviewed and the other the all black version. Both are amazing watches and are my favourite go too watches as I never have to worry about adjusting the time due to the multiband 6 which keeps the watch accurate to the second. I was very wary before about G-Shock watches in general because of my small wrist but the 5610 is ideal and very comfortable to wear due to it being light in weight. I really enjoy wearing mine and I think everyone should have one of these in their watch collection.

  • @dauntlessasmr7910
    @dauntlessasmr7910 Před 2 lety +3

Nice review. Honestly, if you want a shorter strap. Take an X-Acto knife, and trim off the end of the strap at the very last notch. One cut at the bottom of the notch, and one above it. Problem solved. You can very carefully trim a tiny diagonal piece of the strap both top and bottom after cutting at the last notch to make it a bit easier to insert the shorter strap into the keeper. A box-cutter with a brand new razor in it works too. But not quite as well as an X-Acto or Hobby knife.
Obviously I wouldn't do this with a rare, collectible G-Shock model. Nor with a very expensive modern model. However, some G-Shocks (such as this model) are clearly meant to be used by anyone buying it. They don't pop up too often on the secondary market because New prices are very reasonable. Makes no sense to buy a used watch model if you can get a brand new one without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars more compared to a used one.

Great review, I have a large wrist, but I’m hoping it’ll look great. I bought the DW-5200 in 1984 when it first came out, what a great watch, it still looks like new and I’ll never sell it. I have a solar atomic g shock GW002E and it’s great, but I’ve often fancied this and it will replace it as my work watch. The GW002E has the same functions, but can’t display the day at the same time as the date. It’s thicker, too and get in the way when I pull my jacket off. This will be perfect for my job.

These G-Squares even fit my 7.75" wrist very comfortably. I currently only have two G-Shocks, both of which are DW-5600 models. I just haven't gotten around to trying out some of the others yet. I will though. One of them has been knocked around pretty well; the crystal has a few small scratches even though it's recessed below the level of the bezel. The bezel and the band are pretty marred up too and the pushers sometimes squeak against the bezel when pressing them. The other one has had a more charmed life. It came with a small piece of clear film over the crystal, but instead of removing it, I removed the bezel, made sure the film was pressed down firmly in place, then I reinstalled the bezel. Next came a BullBar. This watch actually came with a negative display, so aside from the lettering and the buckle and tongue it's all black and looks really cool. Every now and then, just to change things up a little, I swap out the resin bezel with a Stainless Steel one. Sometimes I leave the resin band on it, which now has a Stainless Steel strap keeper, and sometimes I swap it out with a Stainless Steel bracelet. This one is completely spotless and most likely will remain so.
    Anyway...
I've pretty much made up my mind the the next one is going to be another G-Square, most likely one of the 5610 models. I just haven't quite yet figured out which one it's going to be.

I have as well small wrists and I know that problem with the strap sticking out... There is actually a possibility to "adjust" the strap. Just cut it and then use a nail file and when you're finished, rub the end of the strap on jeans fabric... Somehow that truly works and the result looks good. I've done that on all my Casio watches. There are as well a few videos to be found on youtube explaining the procedure.

It was not easy to decide if I would buy the 5610 or the 5600. Solar charging and radio signal is nice to have. But there is more writing on the case and more indicators on the screen. (Makes it less "clean" for my taste.) Also the light stays on longer on the 5600. So I went with the 5600. As in the end, I don't have much need for radio signals to correct the time. (As a quartz is already accurate enough. And setting it by hand only takes a minute or so.) That said, very nice watch for the money.

I got the 5610 but in retrospect the radio sync'ing isnt really necessary. I like the idea of a solar battery lasting a decade plus, but its not like you have to change the battery on the 5600 very often either. In hindsight, both watches are great - you can save a bit of money on the 5600 and its an amazing watch. If you want to spend more go with the 5610 for the cool factor but its not really necessary. Either way both watches are legendary. If I had to do it again I'd just but the 5600 but as I already own the 5610 I probably wont have to buy another watch hopefully for 20+ years.

For those with issues with the excess lip when the strap is on, I suppose you could always just replace the strap for the half rubber bracelet which won't have that issue as it's got a clasp to secure with? I imagine the fitment is exactly the same.

The current 5610U version of this watch looks the same but adds some features like time setting for the auto ilumination and day/date display order settings.
Seems like theyx listened to the reviews and added what was needed while keeping what was good.

Nice review. I know some people who don't like the lip of the band sticking out, take scissors and cut the extra length of the lip off. Me personally I think it makes it look worse but if you are really bothered by it, you can cut it off.

On eBay, from the seller JaysAndKays, you can get metal adapters for 22mm straps, such as the NATO Nylon straps. This will make fitting straps much easier.

I just got this watch. But the negative display Japanese version. It's a beauty. This video helped me a lot, but it still struggled to auto update. It finally worked but the day was still off by one day so I changed that manually. Could be because it came from Japan and now in BC Canada. Not sure. Definitely was testing my patience. But its such a nice watch. Too bad all my instructions are in Japanese lol

Interesting, wonder if it has to do with being on the other side of the international date line? Is it able to receive updates from the radio receiver and is still a day off? I got the normal version and the day has been accurate. I live in Alberta, it had a bit of trouble sync'ing the time but I'd say it receives it about once or twice a week, which is good enough for me.

Hi, nice review, thanks. I don't know if it's something for you but i found a solution for the end of the strap sticking out. I needed it when i bought a Frogman. That strap is so long it pokes in your eye when you tilt your wrist to look at your watch. I fount those little black bands in the drugstore, the ones girls use to make a head full of little braids. They fit exactly around the band of the watch and you practically don't see it and it ties the end of the strap perfectly flat to the band. They're like 3 euros for 10 bands or something.
