When my dad died in 1976 I purchased a Colt nickel Cobra for my mom who was then 49 years old. She passed on, but now I proudly carry it. I trust the gun and I trust the memories of two wonderful parents. Thanks again, excellent video. I learn from both you and (my good friend) hrfunk when it comes to revolver videos.
Thank you for sharing that.
Great that you have a real interpersonal connection to that Colt! An awesome revolver!
Mod .36 Smith for years with Altamont walnut grips, pocket carry.
In Apr. 24 I purchased a 642 PC w/ Altamont grips, pocket carry, and just completed a cross draw
for travel in my car. No locks
I also have Taurus .357 Poly Protector in my emergency road hazard kit. All with either Critical Defense or Wadcutters.
I enjoy your content and comments.
@@Majorrogerragland48 Thanks!
Several years ago I dropped $900 on a no lock 340PD for EDC. I’m in my mid 70s w/hip & back problems, necessitating the lightest gun for pocket carry. It can be a handful at the range so I keep it loaded w/+P to help w/quick & accurate follow up shots.
Thanks for commenting.
I now have two revolvers I started using because of you videos. A S&W model 10-6 in a bianchi iwb holster and pocket carry a S&W 640 no dash with the Mr. Holster tactical grips. Both carry great and I never feel undergunned.
As a revolver lover I enjoy your videos immensely. Thanks for sharing your talents and thoughts. Bought the taurus 856, 2" after seeing your videos on that and the 605. Since they pinned the front sight on the 856, I ordered the Ameriglo site they include on the 3" model. It took only about 5 minutes to switch our with a 1/16" punch and a light hammer. I don't get a chance to visit gunshops often, but if I ever saw a 640 pro in one I would walk out with it! My other Taurus is the 992 with the switch out cylinder. I've never had a single problem with it and its very accurate. It is the only gun I sold, then missed so much I bought it back. :)
Well, truth be known, you aren't the first to have done that.
Good info about the sights thanks
@@LionquestFitness I'm sure. Hey. In one of your videos I thought you mentioned you have returned to lead round nose bullets for everything. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that in a video.
@@benjaminmoore3373 Good question. That was a few years back. I was frustrated with speed loaders not being overly friendly to hollow points and the lack of various .38 rounds locally. Since then I've done research on various bullets and experimented with many. I also watch a lot of GunSam's videos. I've pretty much settled on Remington .38 Plus P Hollow Points for the guns that can handle it, and 158 grain Underwood semi wadcutters for the older revolvers. Pre-Covid the Remington was available, affordable and consistent in quality. I've got a good bit stashed away. The Underwood was recommended to me by an older retired police officer for use in my older Smiths. Realistically, a hollow point bullet may or may not expand out of a snub, so push comes to shove, I also have a good many 158 grain semi-wadcutters stashed.
Interesting opening of an incident that really happened. Rex was armed with some top break .38 S&W snub, all he could get when in Mexico. Love the history you present. Good shooting as per usual. May slip on a snubby today, going old school as I call it, but it's still as effective today than when I was a boot on patrol in 1972 and an investigator first time in 1975, where we carried snubs as duty weapons.
The beautiful thing about a J frame is that it goes where you go.
@@LionquestFitness that’s the truth! I’m sitting here in a non permissive location with a J frame in the front pocket of my jeans. No worries and no issues
@@thealsatian4232 Cough, cough - I thought I was the only one who did stuff like that!
@@LionquestFitness You aren't Greg, easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Plus I'd rather have and not need it than need it and it's in the car.
Agreed. I carry a Taurus 85 38 Special snub nose in a pocket holster. Bought used at pawn shop sub $200.
I think you got a really good deal!
As an Indiana State Parole Agent, we carried a S&W 640 for several years until the department went to Glocks. I could take that gun and shoot a perfect score on a combat course 4 times out of five. Now in retirement I carry a 642, same grips and same holster.
Great story!
I have a Taurus 85UL I bought years ago. It’s super lite and I keep it topped off with solid ammo. I carry IWB in a holster made by a local company ( Murphy’s Custom Leather). Use the Zeta 6 speed loaders too. I like it. I have a SW 66-3 with similar set up. Both are solid EDC options for me.
I love my 2.25" SP101 in .357 magnum with my Oxblood Rugged Holster Silver Dollar pancake holster on a Rugged Holster 1 3/4" gunbelt. Such a solid rig that basically lets me forget that I am carry such a stout weapon either crossdraw or at 4:00. I tried changing the grips out, but the Pachmayr replacement did not fit properly. The Altamont wood grips I covet are never in stock so I make do with the stock grips. To practice shooting from the hip at home I use a laser 9mm round in my G19. You get instant verification of your strike pattern without expense or noise. It really showed me that slowing down just a tad greatly improved my accuracy from the hip.
That last statement is worth it's weight in gold. Others should heed.
An old detective special if you want 6 round and a lighter trigger.Smith and wesson all steel j frame if you want a smaller gun with one less round.Smith and wesson k frame 19/66 2 1/2 inch if you have to have 357.
I worked at a gun counter for about 6 years and I heard horror stories about Taurus firearms, so I stir clear of them. I enjoy carrying a S&W 442. Great review!
Thanks for the input Doug.
If I were opting for a revolver for CC today, I would probably go with one of the newer Colts. My issue with the J-frame Smiths has always been that for the minimal gain in concealability they offer, they give up almost 20% in capacity... and when we're talking five vs. six rounds, that one round difference CAN make the difference between life and death.
I agree I've done vids on old model 12 6 shot LW smith and they should remake that one but w a 2 1/2 " and front orange night sight IMO.
👍🥇
Sounds good on the inet but the reality is that revolvers are more than adequate for self defense.
Carry two of them! one for each of them as doc holiday said in tombstone!
Sound advice Jeff, that's how revolvers were intended to be carried, in a brace.
Love my Kimber k6s 3 inch DAO. Sanded the wood grip to fit HKS 10 speed loaders.DeSantis IWB or OWB holster, depends on clothes. Use Rem 125 sjhp 357. Works for me.
Good selection.
I'm jealous
Stainless steel from any reputable manufacturer. Easier to clean after practice and less wear and tear from body packing and drawing in and out of the holster, especially practice. S&W offers the most variety, but Ruger and Kimber are top tier, Colts are reappearing and Taurus/ Rossi and Charter Arms are still available.
Hi Richard! Another plus is that the weight of the steel helps manage recoil.
Ruger LCR 9mm loaded with Federal 147 JHP's in a Sticky pocket holster has been working great for me!
With the current state of lawlessness in Minneapolis I think I could use a 1911. However I’ve gone to a LCP max for pocket Carry during work hours. But don’t worry I put Joe Friday on after work hours and on weekends
I hear you brother!
I'm reviewing the max9 pro and it's great . Am extra mag and gives u a lot
I like my S & W model 49 Bodyguard with Eagle FBI grips and it is usually in my Bianchi pocket holster but I have a couple of other holsters for it as well. Always good info from you as well as good shooting.
Glad you enjoyed it James.
I would love to own a 640 but have not found one yet. I stick to my SP101s EDC and LCR(x)s for light carry. Great vid, thanks for the movie at the beginning. You demonstrated great acting ability, I will alert the Golden Globes for you. Take care.
LOL - no acting accolades for me. However, I did try to capture what a man like Rex Applegate would have done - sweat for a moment, reflect for a moment, and then get back to business.
A 640 is a great gun,I have one with no Hillary hole
In the opening video, don’t forget to reload!
Great video man!
Hey it's past my bedtime. Of late I've gotten into Kimber K6S revolver's. The hammerless one just slide's right into the pocket holster and doesn't snag on the way out, but it'll will with a holster set you back a grand. It's the smallest cylinder to hold six round's. But the Ruger LCR in 327 hold's 6 round's with less recoil. I'm using 38+p in the Kimber. Isn't the S&W 642 hammerless also? I do like that extra round. God Bless my friend!
I haven't gotten my hands on a Kimber yet, and realistically I may never! But, by all accounts they are the high dollar Mercedes of Snubbies.
I want a 3" kimber but pricey and worry about long term QC and CS but I am jealous.
I handled the k6S. It feels like a toy. So light. It didn’t feel worth the money when I handled it.
I'm digging both of them. I have the 605, just need a hammerless Smith.
Hi Pat - a lot of folks like the air weight 642 for convenience, but after checking all boxes, I still prefer steel and the ability to shoot .357.
You might want to check out a Charter Arms. Much better trigger, much better sights, much better grips, and a much better purchase price
Retired Philadelphia cop, and I’ve carried continuously since 1967, mostly S&W snubs. Lately I carry Ruger LCRs, either 38 or 22 lr. Summertime changes everything, when I transition to a Ruger LCP II. I have always preferred revolvers for reliability, but with concealment, the auto is preferable.
In winter, I’ve carried a Ruger SP 101 three-inch in a proprietary “concealment jacket.” It actually pulled the jacket down on whatever side I used. I eventually got rid of both the jacket and the gun. I can reasonably carry either the LCPII or the LCR in a pocket, although OWB at 10 o’clock is my choice when not tucked.
I notice that you always wear a sport shirt unbuttoned and loosely flapping untucked. I seldom adopt that mode of dress.
Thanks for sharing. As to the denim shirts, it depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing. I tend to wear long sleeves in the summer to protect my arms from further sun damage from years of wearing short sleeve uniform shirts on duty. For work I wear polos and 5.11 pants. At home it's usually black pullovers and jeans. Sometimes I wear vests. For special functions, funerals, speaking events or court it is a suit and tie.
@@LionquestFitness I’m hip to sun damage. I suffered a severe sunburn in 1976 and now suffer from a skin disorder called Grover's Disease. It’s annoying but not dangerous. Today I am traveling through Philadelphia, so I’ll be armed, wearing a polo untucked with an LCR at 10 o’clock.
@@eronavbj Be safe in Philly.

@@larryminton2670 It works.
Yes, yes, and YES! My always gun is the SW642 for every reason you stated. In my mind, the snub nose revolver is the perfect defensive tool. It's philosophy of use is just that... defensive.
Absolutely.
hip point to aim point,,yes, difficult in a stressful situation. The 605 seems to fit into almost any situation.Never get tired of hearing about it.Keep up the good work my friend!
Hi Mark! Thanks for stopping in. Yup, that 605 has traveled a lot of places with me and l never felt under armed with it.
I enjoy your videos, good shooting with realistic ideals... buy the best weapon you can and train. You don't drive a piece of crap to work or on vacation, you drive a vehicle you like and can depend on. You drive what works for you and then you upgrade when needed or when it no longer suits your needs. When the money is right is the most opportunistic time but sometimes you just have to spend it... cause you need it. As a trainer I would ask the guys how much they paid for their haircut, membership to the gym or workout equipment... then I'd say why would you not pay at least that to save your life? Practicing with what you have will show weaknesses and needs for upgrade, as well as build confidence in your ability to use what you have. Personally I like the thoughtless idea of a pocket holster with a S&W 442... I don't go a day without wearing pants!
My carry revolver is the Ruger SP101, 2.25in barrel, 357mag. I carry though with 38Spec. +P 158gr LSWCHP (Remington), and the holster is either a Fobus Evolution paddle rig, or my DeSantis high rise thumbrake ... both are OWB.
As an alternative, quick grab & go, I have a Ruger LCRx in 22mag., and use a DeSantis Nemisis pocket holster with it.
I like the J-frame Airweight 642. I have a DeSantis Inside the waist band holster with a removable clip. I can be carried that way or as a pocket holster. Best part is I got the holster on clearance at Academy for $6.
Great Video Greg, I think for me the ultimate Concealed Carry Revolver is either an old Colt Lawman if can find one under $600, or a Colt King Cobra 3" .357 so I get 6 shots (again pricey), w a Colt Det/Agent etc as backup. For most people or budget I think the 3" Taurus 856 Defender w Bright Orange Front night sight would be best for carry or home, but the 605 is a great price and as things go down hill the ability to use .357 or .38 whatever you can find may be a benefit there. I almost bit on a k6s 3" Kimber but went to look first Barrel was canted and the head guy at store said "You don't want any Kimber" nor dealing w them so idk. On the Taurus weight, Gun Sam has weighed his and said even lighter than Taurus lists.
If not a Six Shot, I've been pretty much carrying .357. I've been thinking about the King Cobra, but it will be next year for I can manage it. LOL - and I'm laughing because of our recent conversation on your channel - but I bought a CZ P07 two weeks ago. Probably won't have it out to shoot until this weekend.
@@LionquestFitness awesome I rented one like 4 years ago and really liked it and I'm enjoying DA/SA again. Yeah if only 5 I want magnums...if 6 either but would really like 3" instead of 2" offered more often it makes a big difference in ballistics
LOL! you are crazy man! You just got a new loyal viewer. Keep it up! we need more people who cover revolvers (best handguns ever) the way you do it.
Thanks! I had to watch it again to see what I did. That recreation of the Applegate incident was one of my favorites and I originally used it to tell the story of the S&W Centennial.
Great shooting, Greg! I usually carry a Smith 686 plus with a 2.5 inch barrel. Other times a Taurus 856. A Smith 642 is in my pocket most of the time. A loaded speed strip in the other pocket.
You are well prepared Tom!
Nice
model 60 pro series is very handy and compact, a little pricey new but used market is fair
You can't go wrong with that!
I really like my M&P 340 in .357 Mag (no lock). Light enough for EDC, usually pocket carry, great sights, and of course it’s a J-frame!
Favorite CZcamsr by far rn these videos are great and I love that your a wheel gun guy.
Seems like Taurus have come a long way... actually making a weapon that works. Good stuff thanks for posting...
I regularly carry a 640-1 (pre-lock) that I bought new in the mid 1990s. It came with the larger rubber combat grips, not the little boot grips. I pocket carry it with no problem, no sticking to clothing. but I'm 6"4" and 275 lbs so my pockets are rather cavernous. Sometimes I will carry a .380 LCP in my left/non-dominant pocket instead of a reload on my belt. If I want less weight I opt for my .38 special LCR that I put Pachmeyr grips on in place of the 640.
Excellent and well thought out plan of carry John.
The intro scene was suicide, in more than one way! The best budget revolver sorry to say is Taurus, hence why I bought one. And this is coming from a Taurus hater.
Interesting observation. Although Applegate was 6-4 and had trained the OSS in hand to hand fighting during WWII, by his own admission in his letter to S&W about the incident, he was fixing to throw the gun at his attacker when he fell, almost at his feet. Meanwhile the Mexican Army Officer who was his escort was still trying to get his 1911 out of an old cavalry style flap holster.
Maybe Taurus hater is too harsh a word. I prefer Taurus disclaimer. I remember one of your early videos about Taurus and some of the issues you'd had. Me too. I had a Polyprotector that was crappola. I also had one of their 1911's that was at best a C grade gun. But on the other hand, I really like their steel snubs, their 82, the PT92 and the G2C, so it becomes a mixed bag. And there are things to look out for with their snubs. Cheap Chinese steel screws that back out after shooting hot ammunition for one. Also their revolvers are often shipped bone dry and cylinders won't turn without oiling first.
@ZoneFighter1 Sounds kind of improbable, but who knows. It does pay though to thoroughly clean a gun before shooting. It always amazes me the used guns I've bought have have seldom been cleaned. My SP101 had been a boat gun and had never been cleaned after shooting. I got it for less than what it was worth and it cleaned up nicely.
I have gifted my Taurus 605 to my son in law and until I get another one, i have to defend on my favorite S&W 64-1 Greg. Point shooting should be a must for every hand gunner for most of home gun battles are with-in 10 feet..
Absolutely.
My truck and carry is a RIA 206. A Colt Detective clone. Thk you
I carried one with the spurless hammer for two years as my CCW. I still have a soft spot for the RIA 206.
I went the budget route and have a 605. I also have an 856 with a 3” barrel. The 6th round of .38 special is nice but the longer barrel is too long for pocket carry for me. The 605 is my pocket carry gun and it shares time with the 856 for belt carry.
Good choices.
Great setup
I was thinking you were gonna pull out a Mod 40, which I really like, and that carry rig Applegate was using deserves some discussion as well .
I pocket carry a 2in Rossi 357 magnum lucky me it wasn't on the recall cuz I like this pistol like to have a set of wood grips for it I've seen you with the same pistol just like mine and yes it is a pretty piece
I carry a ruger sp101 357. Its the most comfortable firearm I have ever carried. I use an iwb elite tactic leather holster. The gun is not in the cheap realm but it certainly is a gun that you get what you pay for. Reliable and durable thanks for sharing. Your firearms are beautiful.
Definitely a popular choice for a reason.
Greg I like the Taurus 856 mine is the ULCH, that's the ultra light with bobbed hammer. It's double action only as is my LCR in 9mm. That's another favorite.
Both are good guns. I only own one ultra light at this time and it is an S&W 642. If it gives up the ghost in the next few years as the 642 is liable to do, I'm going with Taurus for an ultra light snub.
Any snub nose in .38 will work just fine. I'm glad you mentioned Taurus because for the money, you can't beat them.
You've got that right. I love my Smith's and Ruger's, but Taurus filled a need when I didn't have much money to spend.
I have two, my S&W model 437 with a full combat grip which When carrying it you hardly know you're carrying. And my ruger sp 101 with a 3" barrel, it's heavier but a joy to shoot. Thanks Greg, excellent video.
That SP 101 with the three inch barrel is one I've wanted for awhile. I hit it sooner or later as opportunity presents itself!
As always seems to be the case, I am a year late to the party. Now that I am north of 70, I have pared down on all my firearms, sadly including my beloved snubbies. The two I kept? My Smith M642 +P w/o the dreaded Clinton hole and my Ruger LCR in .327 Federal. I carry both in IWB kydex holsters. Ammo? W/W .38 +P 158gr LSWCHP in the 642 and the tiny remnant of now-discontinued Speer .327 115gr stuff in the LCR.
Not bad choices to keep - lightweight, concealable, and accurate.
@@LionquestFitness On primative campouts on the back of my land, I like to carry my 642 along with my Marlin M94c/.357, but loaded with those same .38 LSWCHPs.
I like my S&W 638 for pocket carry. I often carry my ole model 12 (blued 1964 mint) in a owb Azula leather holster feels good . I love the old school revolvers.
Can't argue with your choices. Both solid guns. I carry a S&W Shield in .40S&W daily but my woods carry guns are all wheel guns. My favorite woods carry is my S&W 648,6". Great fun for popping squirrels or varmints.
Thanks Steed. Good choice on the S&W Shield in .40. I sold mine to a friend, who really wanted it during the Covid buying panic.
Love your videos. Can you show us how you put the holsters on in the different ways they are designed to be worn. I seen you cross draw and I didn’t know you could do that with a holster.
I'll try to do that Preston. That might make a good video.
I don't carry a revolver very often but when I do it's a nickel plated taurus 85 357 magnum made in the early 1990's it is a very good shooter and a looker as well.
That is very cool Chris! I wish Taurus still made the nickel plated revolvers.
I EDC a Taurus 605 poly protector with 38 90-110 gr.
The 605 poly is a work hoarse - reliable with good maintenance as a tools are.
I am debating selling two of my automatics to purchase another Taurus 3inch 605 or 856 - I cannot afford a Ruger SP101 357 with 3 inch barrel
Of the two, me personally, I'd go with the Taurus 605 in three inch. You only have six round, but the 605 is a sturdier made gun.
Well firstly, thanks for the video. From the assortment of a 37, (1957) a 638, 642, a couple of .38 LCR's, a Couple of 2-1/4" SP-101's, one of which is a newer release and the other which is a late 90's release with the roll marks instead of laser engraving and no MIM trigger or hammer, a surprisingly fantastic Taurus 85 stainless from the 90's, (I might have to come back and edit that last one later if I can before anyone notices I posted this...) a model 10-5 snub, an Armscorp M206, a vintage Charter Arms "Undercover" in .38 and a Charter "Off Duty" .38, the "carried" one is the "Off Duty." I don't know if it qualifies as best necessarily but just this weekend I had it out and put some 158 grain Mag-Tech through it and perfect as usual. I picked that up for $100.00 at a pawn shop a few years back. It looks like ass on parade but it shoots straight and goes bang every time. And to think, I almost walked away from it that day all those years ago...Of all the other aforementioned snubs, I think the smoothest action is the 10-5 for what that's worth. Favorite? Not sure.
Easy to carry, easy to conceal. All those points mentioned here in the video are why I like snubs.
I like a lot of guns, but I love snubs! An older beater that works gives you a sense of comfort. Kind of like an old pair of work boots. They ain't pretty, but they support and protect the feet.
I like both options. Have not fired the Taurus so would like to try that,
Hi Santee! I'm a fan of the steel Taurus snubs. Also, my wife and I have gotten into watching episodes of the High Chaparral. I judge the accuracy of events, props and costumes by the Arizona Ghostriders videos.
@@LionquestFitness Oh no, I've created another monster! Sorry, Greg! LOL!!!
Sure like your videos on wheel guns.just bought a pietta as a 45 colt
I'm envious.
It's no secret, because I've mentioned this in other comments on this channel. I like a Charter Arms DAO Bulldog .44. I have plenty of other fine handguns that I can pick from, both revolvers and semi-autos. For a revolver, I choose the Charter because I like the .44, and also, the gun is reliable, and reasonably priced.
My Son is a cop in a major city, and he told me...."don't be carrying some expensive fancy sidearm Pop. If you end up actually using that peashooter, you're not going to be getting it back until you go through the entire legal process. So that weapon could sit on an evidence shelf for quite some time, and who knows just how careful people are when looking for stuff on those shelves. That thing could be pushed around and even hit the floor a couple of times!".
This is why I simply laugh when I hear of people carrying these $2000 1911's, or other relatively expensive handguns. For me....my max price for a carry weapon is $500.
Obviously anyone can carry what they want, but in the end, the cops that show up at your self defense shooting won't be shaking your hand and saying....nice job buddy, here's your firearm, have a nice day. Could be a while before you see your beloved firearm again!!
So there ya have it. I certainly wouldn't purchase a cheap piece of junk, but I wouldn't spend too much at the same time. Get something that works well and reliably, because if you have to use it......
I've got my eye out for a Charter Arms revolver. Your son is right about a gun being seized and going through hell and highwater to get it back. And, even in the best of circumstances, no one will pat you on the back for defending yourself. Good advice all around.
Not to mention.....If you actually carry the same weapons every day, they're going to get kinda beat up. I carry either my Charter, or I acquired a pre-owned S&W m&p.40 for $300. Both guns are nothing to look at, but both function flawlessly!
@@mikek8089 And if a gun goes bang reliably, that is all you need.
My EDC is a Smith 640 Pro-series. I usually pocket carry and load it with Gold Dot 357mag "short barrel" ammo. Great video. 👍 🇺🇸
I've been hearing good things about the 640 Pro-series from my friend who gave me that Simply Rugged holster.
@@LionquestFitness The three dot night sights and the option of using moonclips are what I really like about it.
I have those two as well. Just bought the 605. Preferred holster is an Italian leather Blackhawk. I’m 77, so I’m drifting away from the 9mm because the sldes are becoming too difficult to rack. Put a Wolff spring kit in these and you’re good to go with +P rounds.
Excellent!
Greg I too carry a centennial mine is the model 940 in 9MM, it’s very easy to carry and fast on the draw. It’s a little heavy but that weight is used to soak up some of the recoil of the 9MM. Great information keep up the good videos.
I bought a used Ruger LCR 38 for $350, and I use a Bianchi 56 thumb break holster ($50.00). I know I was lucky to find it for such a low price, and I am very happy with it’s performance. I carry it 90% of the time. I carry a Shield 45 for my walks in the woods, though.
Those are both good choices.
Well right now at the moment the only snub nose revolver I have is a 2" S&W model 10-7, eventually I want to get an S&W 642. My concealed carry pieces are as follows; the only Taurus I've had good trouble free service out of the TCP 738 in 380acp, a Glock 26 gen5 and my 2" model 10. I prefer revolvers, especially with the original S&W magna grips I can get my best purchase drawing from concealment. I lived my Taurus revolvers until they failed me and once a gun fails it's gone.
That is not a bad philosophy of use.
Hi Greg. Excellent video, as always. My favorite carry is the Charter Arms Undercover, carried in either a Remora Concealment holster with reinforced top for iwb, or a 1791 Paddle J frame holster or an ITAC J frame holster. Tied for 2nd place are the Taurus 856 Ultra Lite (1791 J frame paddle or Remora), or the Rock Island Armory m 206 (Remora or Galvo k frame leather paddle holster or Fobus Evolution holster for GP 101, cut down a lot). I wore out my Smith and Wesson 442, and it's "normal wear and tear, so they told me to pound sand. I told them I've bought my last Smith and Wesson
Those are very good choices. I was wondering how the CA Undercover was working for you. Also glad to see the M206 is still going strong.
I like my Taurus ultra lite and the protector.
That was a great opening Greg! Favorite fancy EDC snub is a Kimber K6s DASA. My budget snub is the Taurus 865.
Nice on both counts.
The ruger sp101 or Taurus 605 in my opinion are practically perfect for carry
I'm a fan of both.
Taurus 605 Protector Poly, I bought it first because of the price but, it quickly became a favorite it my collection.
Because I was so happy w my 605 I also bought a Taurus 856 back when they came out which I also loved right out of the box. And now since I just moved back to a state where I can ccw again after being in a state where I couldn't for a few years I just bought a concealed hammer 856 for a late night dog walking pocket gun.
Big fan of Taurus no better line of revolvers in that price range
I definitely agree on Taurus; especially with their all steel snubs.
@@LionquestFitness keep up the great work on the vids!!
I HAVE A " J " FRAME .38...STAINLESS....LOOKS ALMOST NEW, THREE INCH BARREL. LOOKING FOR BETTER GRIPS. FACTORY WOOD, IT RATTLES AROUND IN MY HAND. LEATHER CROSS DRAW, RIGHT HAND GRIP.
I have the S n W 642 from the Performance Center with a custom wood grip. Do you like that?
I've got a 642 when I need deep concealment and for summer pocket carry. I've never handled a performance center firearm; although I read good things about them.
Good shooting; especially the from the hip. Seems like one can never get enough practice shooting from the hip. The 605 is a good choice for revolver CC. Being almost old as dirt, I would still want the hammer attached and/or in plain sight where it belongs. If Glock ever makes a revolver, I might try it. LOL😁😁
A glockenspiel?
@@LionquestFitness Ja Ja der Glockenspiel !
👍 nice shooting Greg. Thanks for posting.
Hi GB! I'm glad to get back to doing video. Between work, family, and working with a new camera, I wasn't able to do anything for a couple weeks.
I carry a 642 not perfect but more concealable in the pocket.
That is a good choice. I often carry a 642 during the summer and when I need deep concealment.
@@LionquestFitness living in Phoenix changes the equation a bit as no one wears much of a cover garment. Florida might be the same.
@@ftdefiance1 I'm a 60 something year old Florida native and I pocket carry a 642 daily. It's so hot and humid here for 9 month's of the year and impossible to wear a cover garment. All though a bit heavy and bulky I'll also pocket carry a M&P Shield in 9mm if going to the big city.
@@landsurveyor000 I use a 640 for similar uses. When I get knee surgery I might have to go to a pocket 9.
That drunkard was no match for Ol' Trusty.
I carry a 2.5 Ruger sp101 as my hideout gun.
Good choice with the Ruger. That's what I was carrying this past week. Of all the videos I've done re-creating Applegate's incident south of the border was my favorite.
do they make a 2.5? mine's a 2.25 but iwish it was a 3.
@@fbweaver63
Yep. Its the 2.5 in brushed stainless with a hammer chambered in .357.
@@DixieWhiskey mine is a 2.25 stainless in 357 w/ hammer. i knew they made them in 3 and 4ish" but have never seen or heard of a 2.5. i would rather have the 3" as it burns a lot more powder than the 2.25 and not as much less than the 4 and is better for appendix than the 4.
@@fbweaver63
I see what you mean. I load .38spl in mine and carry it small of back. My primary carries are shoulder.
Here in California unfortunately you can forget about "carry". but if I do, I'd invest in a S&W model 66 in 2&3/4 barrel .357 magnum, for flexibility of different loads. The wooden grips are really nice Greg, that I would prefer them over the rubber ones.
Me and you both brother!
great shooting and great video again. i love that smith and the grips and holster. i also like the grips and holster on the taurus. my carry is a $200 used taurus 605 w/ stock rubber grips in a cheap $8 nylon iwb holster. my backup varies. i do have a semi-nice leather holster that fits my ruger sixes, but i rarely carry them except to play out back, which has gotten too expensive to do, nowadays. if i want to carry that much size, i carry my glock 22 or a 45. the 45s ride in cheap uncle mikes and my glock in a cheap hybrid iwb, blackhawk belt or walmart shoulder rig for a daisy bb pistol which they quit selling when they quit selling bb pistols. i modded it to point the pistol down vertically so i wouldn't be pointing at anyone behind me as my family hikes trails.
That is called making use of what you have and that is a time honored American tradition.
My favorite is my Ruger SP101 2.25"; I shoot it well. I also have a 7-shot Taurus Model 617 that is a tad bit heavy but it's a great shooter.
Can't go wrong with an SP 101
You like the 617? It interests me and everyone I held seemed good quality w smooth trigger
@@DanTheWolfman I do like it and I shoot it well. Interesting, mine has a better lockup and tighter feel than my S&W PC 8-round Model 627.
@@yellowboxster06 cool thanks
Nice content.
Have you checked out the new Kimber K6XS?
Given your taste it could potentially become your new favorite!
Very possibly. I like what I've seen. I'd definitely trade my 642 and maybe even my 640 for one. We'll see.
@@LionquestFitness It sure would be interesting to see your review on it if and when.
I’m most curious about recoil at 15 ounces or so. Looks very solid but looks can be deceiving. Of similar weight, the Ruger LCR chambered in .38 +p is NOT fun to shoot at all.
Hello Greg! Taurus 856ch matte black w/ vz smooth grips, and just recently purchased barsony itwb leather holster. It just disappears! Also 442 when necessary. And the orange paint on the blade... thanks to you. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 great content, great videos ✊
Thanks Bill! Thanks for stopping in.
Dang, you dress up well! Love my first year 640-1 and carry 110g 357mags. I have the original uncle Mike's grips and think they are the best j-fram grips ever developed. I carry most of my guns in Azulas.
Currently I have five different Azula holsters. My favorites are the one for the 605 and the one I have for my three inch Chief Special. They are sturdy, look good, and retain the firearm. What more could you want?
we got to get you a wip like indiana jones, the tip breaks the sound barrier at over 1125 feet second, like a knife that never runs out of ammo but funny if you had one for everyday carry, you would get some attention maybe make the news
LOL - I don't need that kind of attention.
For a "modern" CCW revolver I rely on my .38 LCR but I still love my old NEF R73 in .32 H&R magnum. For budget I guess I would go with my RIA M200 and feed it the occasional +P if I felt the need. Great video Greg!
Thanks Marc!
Do u have the m200 and how is it holding up?
@@DanTheWolfman Yes Dan, I still have my M200 and it is as solid as the day I got it. Great gun for the price. Not the quality of a Smith or Colt but it works every time.
I carry a Taurus model 445 in 44 spl, but i shoot 44 Russian.
I have a Taurus .38, 6 shot, but prefer to carry a Ruger SR9c.
If it works for you, it works for you and you are carrying the gun you prefer. I don't begrudge anyone's carry. I actually like the look of the SR9c. Too bad they don't make it anymore. It looks like it sits low and lines up on the forearm, which makes it a natural point and shoot.
Excellent
Lately I’ve been carrying that 640 Pro. Same Simply Rugged holster except in black. Nothing wrong with the Taurus either. A .357 even from a snub nosed revolver is a great round. Good video my friend.
You sending me that picture of the 640 pro and relating how well you shot it gave me the idea for the video.
@@LionquestFitness well, I took it to the ranch this morning and blew the lint out of the barrel. It still goes BANG!
@@thealsatian4232 LOL in Triplicate!
I typically don't do cross draw but wow you made it look really easy and smooth. Good bye campesino lol
LOL - you're Hispanic so you can get away with saying that! As for the cross draw, I just have started doing it. Being a lefty, it is easier to take my holster on and off from that side before going into a school or other government building. Too, it is more comfortable when I am driving. Thanks for stopping in Fabian!
@@LionquestFitness no problem Sir! Great video!
Another fantastic video, Greg! I'm looking for my first carry gun. I'm interested in three (NOTE: we can't buy Taurus, Colt or Kimber revolvers in Massachusetts). The PRO Series version of the S&W 640 (no internal lock, night sights, cut for moon clips). The Ruger LCR in 357magnum (would carry standard pressure 38spc full wadcutters). And, the Ruger LCR in 327magnum (SIX shot, would carry 32 S&W Long wadcutters or 32 H&R magnum hollow points). Any thoughts? I'd love to see you review an LCR of your choice!!! Thanks for all you do, sir!
Somewhere down the line I'm going to find an LCR I can review. I'm always on the lookout for bargains on firearms I'm interested in.
i have taurus, rossi, s&w 38sp revolvers. i had a ruger sp101 and lcr, both gone now. if you cannot get a new taurus for $300, then a used s&w is good.
Sissy watch Gun Sam's videos on the LCR 327. I love mine, Buffalo Bore should have something you can carry in it at any given time. The Federal stuff is totally out of stock and has been for 2 plus years. The 32 S&W Long 100 grain wadcutters offer great penetration and near 22 Long rifle recoil if that's a thing for you. Gun writer Richard Mann used the BB 130gr 32mag Keith load (They call it the Outdoorsman load) to take doe in Missouri one season. Buffalo Bore makes good stuff.
Another informative and entertaining video. Well done.
I agree with you Greg 💯 like the Taurus for CC price is rt Calif my 605 ran me about 420.00 I'm ok with that. Thanks again for the review.
Thanks for watching George!
I like the look and feel of wood more, but dont mind the rubber grips on my taurus 85 Ul that is my EDC. That 856 is nice looking. I might get an LCR in the future
Great info.
I've become a big fan of the modern Charter Arms revolvers. If you insist on .357 Mag., then the 5-shot Mag Pug is a great option. If .38 Special is doable, the 6-shot Boxer or Police Undercover models are excellent. The stock rubber grips are great, but I switched to the classic wood grips on The Boxer to aid in concealment. The best part was that Charter only charges $15 for replacement grips. My Charters aren't as polished as most S&W's, but they are significantly cheaper and have been more reliable than some of my Taurus revolvers.
I'm on the lookout for a Charter arms revolver to pick up. You don't see them too often in my area.
A topic I don't hear often but wonder how many CCW a revolver alot better than a auto. Also it seems 2 point better (instinct shooting) than a auto does!
I don't know. Revolvers, especially small frame revolvers aren't going anywhere anytime soon and they are easier to carry, conceal, and point shoot.
Generally, S&W is going to cost more because well, it’s S&W. I carry a Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum with a 3.1 inch barrel. It was reasonably priced, made in the USA and is very concealable. The only drawback to CC is weight.
Good choice though.
Nicens!please let us know when Hollywood calls & how it goes.later on cool breeze!
Not in this life time!
Got a double action only 856 taurus. And i grabbed a 1976 model 10 a couple months ago.
That is a good combination.
Congratulations for your interesting video! Useful for us.
Nice video, I've been fortunate to have own several snubbies . The S&W 340pd is my favorite though. Expensive but can be carried in so many different ways because of size and weight ( or lack of ) load it with gold dot 135gr (+p or 357) . Lol not a fun day at the range gun though usually shoot a box of 38 and 10 357 am call it good , point shooting is something we all need a lot more practice with .
Hi looks like that Smith has a THREE INCH barrel which is my preferred length in a CCW Revolver. I carrt TWO .32 S&W LONG chambered Revolvers both with 3 inch barrels. I routinely get criticism that a .32 will not stop an attacker. I disagree. I understand why You prefer wood grips and You are right about rubber sticking to clothing. I carry wad cutters, they penetrate well, are mild to shoot and are actually a very effective bullet profile for self defense. You would be very surprised at the Penetration os a .32 wad cutter. I believe the .32 is the BEST snub caliber for ccw.
I have the smith and wesson 642 j frame .38 special + p but I might sell or trade for a .357 option like an sp 101
I' m interested in the Kimber
@@robertspeicher5047 trigger on the kimber k6 is superior
I like the "snubbie"...But would like a 3 inch barrel. I'm not sure what barrel lengths are avaible...357 mag...would load with critical defence
You mentioned retention? How about how to fight and keep your firearm from being taken from you?
