Thanks Rob, the method shown here can be used in conjunction with radial masks to deal quite well with the big and diffuse hotspot I see in colour IR from my Tamron 20-40mm VXD. It's difficult to get it looking absolutely perfect (perhaps related to the with way the radial mask fades out compared to how the hotspot behaves across the frame plus my lack of skill), but 90% deals with it. A slight tweak of the tint slider towards green in addition to adjusting the yellow/blue helps to eliminate the discolouration. Good tip to crank up the global saturation to make it easier to see when you've got it right! I wonder why there can't simply be a white balance picker tool available to use within the mask adjustment to make this all a bit quicker?
I agree. I wish there was a WB picker for use in masks. That would be a good feature to request in Adobe product surveys.

I like these ideas and will try on some of the images I post on Instagram.
I mainly edit in Photoshop, with some camera raw pre-adjustments. Recently I've begun editing many pics in a bit similar way. I make 2 folders above my image and then create a mask of the sky on one folder and invert the mask for the other folder. Then the adjustment layers i add in each folder will only address those areas. Any global adjustment layers, i just add above the 2 folders
For the shadow part, i would probably add a hue/saturation layer in the ground folder and then use blend if, so it targets the darker areas only. I've really come to love using blend if
I made some landscape photos using a Red filter that can also pass IR; correcting the white balance was really difficult but another thing that one can try is using a color mixer (at least that's what I remember it as) if using Photoshop.
The channel mixer in PS can be used to swap colors after a WB. You can also use the Color Balance in PS to tweak colors in the shadows, midtones, and highlights.
Super video :) This is the kind of refinement instruction that really takes an image to a new level. I open images in Camera Raw, select profiles and then open in Photoshop as a Smart Object. One way I deal with light or dark areas in Camera Raw is to select a luminance mask, adjust and add or subtract with a brush within that mask. You can also select a color range mask to split and refine colors with greater range and nuance. Very cool sliders in Luminance & Color range masks of Camera Raw allow for incredible refinement of threshold and blending levels. Photoshop is also great with Duplicate Layer > Select > Color Range or Luminance Range. Layer blending modes allow a lot of creativity with opacity options. Radiant soft focus glow effects are really effective in this regard. Duplicate Layer > Select > Color Range > Highlights > Select > Fuzziness > Range > CTRL J to create separate selection layer > Filter > Gaussian Blur ( 15-20 ). Then use opacity and blending option to desired effect. Works well for shadows and color refinement also. I have learned so much from all your videos...white balance, DNG etc. The Photoshop Actions and Lightroom profiles are so handy. Thanks for all the help in the no color world of IR! Haven’t quite finished your book yet, so this video is timely as I am working of an image that has an unwanted color cast in elements in the foreground. PS. I use both Luminar Neo and PS Elements. Using the eye dropper tool, I never seem to achieve a good colour separation to start with on pics shot with a 720 filter.
With Lunimar Neo it seems harder to get good white balance results compared with Luminar 3. With Adobe products, you will need a custom profile to set a good white balance. You can download them here: 590.red/infrared-profile-pack

Thanks for sharing these techniques. I’m new to infrared and just had a canon rp converted to full spectrum and I added a Kolari IR Chrome clip in filter. I’m not getting the results I was expecting. Would these techniques help with the IR Chrome filter? Thanks
These techniques mostly apply to high-pass filters, such as 590 nm, 720nm, etc. With the IR Chrome filter, you can set a custom white balance in the camera and you should get pretty good results without the need for a custom profile or color swap.
Thanks for the reply. I’m using the expo disc to get a custom white balance in camera but the results are still not what I was hoping for. Will keep trying though
@@whiteoconnell Ensure that you are shooting in raw. This will allow you to set a good white balance while editing.
Yes, I always shoot in Raw. I’m sure I can get the results I want, just need more tweaking than I thought was needed.
What results are you looking for? I use a grey card for my white balance. I have a Sony camera so the reds are more orange with the IR Chrome filter but can easily change it with a hue\saturation layer. I've been shooting IR for several years now and have a lot of fun with it.
Hi Rob, do the instructions for adding the profiles you created work on a MAC with the M1 chip? Also, the Command + Shift +G does not work to get the GO Menu.
I have a MacBook Air M1 and the instructions are the same as other recent Macs. Command + Shift + G opens the "Go to Folder" dialog when in the Finder. Ensure that you have Finder open. You can also select "Go to Folder" from the Go menu in Finder.
I sent you 3 new pictures I just took in my apartment. All shot in LR, all shot DNG, exported as DNG, I hope it's correct this time, I don't know what else to do. Thank you for all your patience and help.
This worked! I've created profiles for the back and back telephoto cameras. (A profile cannot be created for the wide camera, since it doesn't save files in a raw format. This is the same as earlier iPhone Pro Max models, including the 12 and 13.) I've added the profiles to the Infrared Profile Pack. 590.red/infrared-profile-pack
@@robshea Thank you so much, I downloaded the profile -pack, but lost the instructions how to install them. I should tell you I haven't updated LR or PS because I hear lots of people having issues. I have enough issues, so I'll wait for Adobe to update both apps.

I'm running the latest versions of LR/PS with no issues. I really like all the new masking features in LR.
@@robshea I saw a demonstration of the new masking features, looks great, but everyone in my camera club who updated is having issues. I'm going to wait. Will these profiles work if I didn't update? Should I hold onto them until I update?

@@robshea I am an iPhone photographer and will be shooting with the iPhone 14 starting today when I pick it up. I tried to install the profiles you made and sent me, but I couldn't install them. I tried, they were in the right place per your instructions, but they didn't show up in Lightroom or Camera Raw. I'm using a Mac computer with the new chip, could that have anything to do with my issues?

a) They need to be installed in the correct location. This article can help to troubleshoot that: 590.red/where-profiles
b) They need to match the camera. If you are looking at an image in Lightroom or Camera Raw, the profiles will only be shown if they are an exact match for the camera used to take the image. Profiles for even slightly different camera models will not be displayed. The naming conversion for iPhone cameras is tricky since the profile named "iPhone14,3 back camera" is actually a profile for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. I can add profiles for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. i mean you can take a normal photo and recolor it as it IR at this point of colorgrading involved, no?
This would require channel mixing. Color grading would not be enough to create this effect.
Hello. My infrared converted phone A52s doesn't support RAW. Can I still control white balance using PNG or JPEG photos?
You can still change the white balance using the Temp and Tint sliders. However, in Adobe products, you might have have enough range to get a good white balance. You may need to use another editor to effectively set the WB, such as darktable, RawTherapee, or ON1.
Hello Rob, I'm shooting files to send to you in LR Mobile app as you said, however when I export the images they come out as Jpegs. I changed the export as to DNG, but they still come out as Jpegs, do you know what I'm doing wrong?
Hello Rob, I sent you new images taken from the Lightroom Mobile App all DNG files, did you receive them?
I just looked at the three DNG files you sent. One cannot be opened in DNG Profile Editor and the other two only contain embedded profiles. They might not be the originals, maybe JPG exports converted to DNG? I'll need the original DNG files. From LR Mobile, they need to be exported as Original.
