  • So, here is the final installation of the third battery bank and with that, battery 2.0 is complete! I can't believe we have the PowerWall and Battery 2.0 operational. There are still some final touches necessary but technically, it is working now as designed.
    While installing the last 16s battery I discovered a damaged cell! I messaged Qishou and received outstanding service. And, this is not only for my but it is their shipping and service guarantee for all their customers! How great is this company?!

However, I was told matching cells is an extra service thus come as a extra charge. It was not the case when they sent the first 16 cells. And they stop responding to me. Looking for a different battery cells supplier, heard good things about Basen. Raz

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      Matching is not too important. The internal resistant is relevant but only for the time of measurement. 6months later and your batteries will be unmatched anyway due to a shift in internal resistance. Hence we have a balancer to keep them under control.

    • @razvanduta3563
      @razvanduta3563 Pƙed 2 lety +1

      @@OffGridGarageAustralia Andy, the internal resistance was matched, but not the capacity ranging from 278 to 284Ah for 280Ah cells. Maybe I am too pedantic and trying to see problems where there are not; however the first lot was spot on.
      Just FYI - my bank is 32 cells (4P8S) in a 24V arrangement when charging during day with high amperage 140-180A are unbalanced by 100mV. Towards the night they reach within 20-40mV with QUCC SmartBMS and an active balancer.

    It's looking good Andy👍, I'm not sure if you know, the price of electricity in the UK has just jumped up because a price cap has been removed, the price has gone up from around £0.20p per KW to £0.30p+ with a further increase later in the year we also pay a daily standing charge for the meter of about £0.30p. I've been totally off grid for nearly 3 years and now starting to plan a new house build, with the cost to connect to the gridd, the cost per kw and standing charges, combined with our 3 years experience so far, I'm seriously tempted to add some extra batteries and panels and carry on without the gridd power, I've got just under 4kw of panels and a 15kwh battery, even with the modest UK Sun we are full well before lunch time and the system is just on float all afternoon.

    I can't wait to see the sequel too, these 3 groups of battery, connected in parallel!?
    I think you will have, differences during charging and discharging, it's the problem of parallel connections (and normally the suppliers of the BMS you use, say that they are not compatible, with parallel connections)
    But I can't wait to see how your very large storage battery will react.

    After all your hard work and others added input, IV just updated my shed system and got to 1kw PV and set-up a small grid tie inverter (witch is winding my meter backwards very slowly) also IV started to set up an other 2kw pv system for a work mate.
    If it wasn't for you and the viewers comments I'd still be on a 120w PV with AGMs and a pwm
    charger.

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      Thank Marc. There is definitely a huge demand on such systems. I can see the subscriber count going up steep now. With solar and batteries available, it's not a hard thing to build you won off-grid system and start supplying energy to certain loads at home. Even a small battery one can easily cope with a fridge and freezer which already saves a lot of money over the time. Once you get the hang of it, keep upgrading... there is almost no limit...

      @@OffGridGarageAustralia You're a lucky man Andy. My wife thinks anything I'm interested in is a waste of money (granted I feel the same about her hoarding of clothes, shoes and handbags). There's also the lack of space for any solar (tiny 10m x 10m lot mostly covered by the house and inaccessible 3rd floor roof) or any place to work on things (no garage). Then there's the maybe 1 hour of direct sunlight I get each day. To have any sort of useful solar setup I would have to move somewhere else. I love following along with you and learning but unfortunately I think it will forever remain a vicarious pleasure for me.

      Hi James. Thanks for your comment. Why would you want to connect the BMS to the inverter? The Victron inverters (like most others) have their own setting you can utilise for that and it will shutdown your load before the battery gets critical low if this is what you want to achieve.
