Its a crying shame. There is money, but not for the likes of us. I would be ashamed to be called a councillor of Bradford. Good film Mike.

Well Chris, I think you're working out that I'm no lover of the Council or most of the Councillors - Actually - All Councillors - they're just a bunch of wasters. However, their utter contempt for the local people and the due processes of Democracy will backfire. I'm not a happy bunny at the moment - I was going to vote UKIP at the General Election - but they are putting forward a former Labour Asian Candidate who everyone knows is part of the Asian Mafia. Way You Go.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I think this video is deliberately misleading. People should not take their opinion of Saltaire from what has been shown here. You know perfectly well that the disruption caused by the tree removal is a work in progress - those damaged pavements are all going to be replaced. In no sense is it tired or rundown. It won't even be treeless, as eight new trees are going to be planted - if you give the council a chance to finish the work. You make it sound like Saltaire is only great with the trees, and now they are removed it is back to dirty Victoriana, but that isn't the case at all. Saltaire is still an exciting, interesting, vibrant beautiful place. The trees were damaging the pavements and made it unpleasant and dangerous for residents and visitors alike, but you fail to mention this.
I know that the tree removal has divided views down the middle, but to deliberately mislead is irresponsible, and doesn't help the pro-tree cause. I hope most people see that your video is just emotional manipulation rather than based on reason or fact. I don't know if you want to draw attention through controversy, but your time would have been better spent in celebration of Saltaire or presenting a balanced view.
PS I'm no fan of Bradford council either, and would kick out the lot of them, but that's another issue...

Well thank you for your input Barry. Saltaire doesn't quite know what it's about or where it's going to end up under the custodianship of BMDC. Yes I do well remember Saltaire back in the 1950s, 60s, 70s etc, and as I say, it looked like any other part of Bradford in that period. But back then - it had all the original street furniture and was what it was. Then most of this began to disappear and major buildings were being raised to the ground. I remember those trees first being planted - and my dad saying:"Now that's a mistake!" Now knowing Bradford Council as I do - I will believe something will happen only when it happens - they have a very nasty habit of re-allocating funds to other areas. For my part - I see the removal of these trees as a long-term positive thing, and I'm not sure I would like to see others planted down Victoria Road - given the fine architecture that still remains. Now where I think this was an act of vandalism is in this sense - ALL the tree were removed in one go - this proved to be a shock to the community's system, particularly as there had been very little consultation. I would also ask that you pop out and look up and down Victoria Road and tell me Saltaire doesn't now look naked and at odds with herself - Inappropriate road-signs, Streetlamps - half concrete - half galvanized steel just to mention a few things. Yes Saltaire is a 'Living Community Village' and if that is what it wishes to remain then that's fine - but it isn't - it wants to be much more and in that case it has to be looked at in the cold light of day and serious decisions made my the local community and the appropriate authorities.

PS... I spend a lot of my time showing Saltaire and its community as it really is - Many of the video on here prove that. So we'll agree to disagree :) czcams.com/video/UHsl9n-jqjA/video.html czcams.com/video/gjHmwwiUBDM/video.html czcams.com/video/4evjA3zKGFY/video.html czcams.com/video/2o87WlG9N-k/video.html czcams.com/video/ZbTXEysaGQA/video.html Just a few videos showing the best of Saltaire

My bit of History Fair point. I only watched some of your other films after and some of them do celebrate Saltaire, and I should have said so. Nonetheless, presenting a more balanced point of view and with less saccharine would prove more persuasive.

Barry Traish As I say Barry - I have a lot of experience with BMDC spanning back some 30 years - I personally know many of the old guard Councillors, and I can honestly say - The only one I ever trusted or had any respect for was the late Stanley King. The likes of Val Slater & David Green - you have to take with a very large pinch of salt and not to take it personally when they shaft you with a smile. As for this video - I think it is fair and balanced - and as for the sarcasm - Hmmmmmm I would call it 'Good Old Yorkshire Wit' :)
