As an Indonesian myself, I see some comments mentioning how sad it is that orangutans are threatened to be extinct, if you do love these funny cute mammals I really recommend you to stop using palm oil related product since the deforestation in Borneo are mainly caused by massive palm plantations and donate to local Borneo orangutans keeper communities

Yes, and as an Indian I'm sorry because India is one of the biggest consumers of palm oil. I am strictly against a trade that destroys our neighbors ecology. There are many other sources like coconut or olive or mustard in india that can grow without deforestation here. We must stop destroying environment just for the sake of greed.

20 years ago on ABC Radio National (Australia), a research and expert on orangutans told a story. One day he was walking through a clearing in the jungle when he heard an orangutan screaming. He raced into the jungle and quickly found a fire which had encircled a baby. The mother was standing outside the fire, screaming. The researcher found a way in, grabbed the baby, got out of the fire and presented to the mother who snatched it off him, took one look at his eyes, and raced off with the baby.
A week later the researcher was walking through the same clearing when the mother, a wild orangutan, came out of the jungle, took him be the hand, and took him into the jungle to a special tree. The tree had leaves regarded as a delicacy, and which the orangutans conserved. The mother took a handful of leaves and gave it to him.

What's interesting is that it's not an entirely "natural" phenomenon for two young orangutans to do that. What I mean is, in the wild, orangutans are very solitary creatures. Unlike troop-based primates like gorillas and chimps, young orangutans spend almost all their time exclusively with their mothers and, under normal circumstances, would very rarely encounter another orangutan infant to interact with. These little orphans have adapted to care for and comfort each other in a way that would just not take place outside the unique setting of this orphanage/rehab center, and it's adorable.

I can only imagine how difficult it would be to work with these amazing animals then have to say goodbye when they are ready to live in the wild. The caregivers spend years trying to prepare the orangutans to live in the wild and then let them go which surely must take an emotional toll on the caregivers. I know for me it would be a very emotional thing and I'd be worrying. But it's what's best for the orangutans 💖

I've don't understand either. How ANYONE could hurt or abuse one of these animals, so similar to ourselves, that really pose no threat to us what so ever, except we are greedy and want their environment for our own gain, with is unconscionable.
There should be great punishment coming to any who maliciously and intentionally harm these gentle, innocent primates.
I see so much of our own kind in them, naturally, well, along with ANY human with more than 2 braincells to rub together, and an ounce of compassion in their hearts.
These people in Borneo, Sumatra, Indonesia..... absolute selfless HEROS with hearts of pure gold!
Many thanks be to ALL of these people who care enough to do what they do to take in, care for and teach them what only their fallen mothers could do in any other situation.

In the wild, the mother is supposed to comfort them because orangutan babies could live with their mother for up to 8 - 10 years. Since they are all orphans, now they can only comfort each other, it is adorable to see but also sad at the same time. Orangutans are known to have strong and long parental bonds, second to humans.
