You don't have to spend hundreds to get a folding bike that you can use for an international cycle tour. Second hand folding bikes can be excellent value if you are prepared to do any repairs yourself! Small repairs and replacing any worn out parts can be done with simple tools and these light weight bikes can be stored easily in a cupboard or under a bed.

Just note if you plan to go "camping" in the USA, unless you are willing to trespass on private and even public lands and risk a fine or night in jail, expect to pay $30 + per night at an official camp spot or motel stay. We don't do freedom here in the U.S.A. everything comes with a price. If you are like me, you say the heck with all that and get a natural colored tent and even cammo netting to throw over it so to look like a bush from 50+ feet away and just leave no trace or even leave the place you stayed cleaner than you found it! That's right, even our national and state parts most all charge tenters $30 USD per night now!

I'm setting up my ancient single speed folder. I'll be going very slowly. I seem to average between 7 and 11 MPH. I'm wondering about how to set up my hammock when there are no trees, but maybe I should go where there are no trees unless I use a kayak or canoe instead of a bike.
