I don’t think kids care about the races of characters they see in shows, however I do think that it subconsciously wires girls to think that Caucasian girls are representative of beauty, as this is the only race that they are being shown portrayed as “princesses”. Young girls should look up to multinational and multiracial characters. What Disney should do is make more characters of all different shapes and colours, and not change existing ones. Having a diversity in the demographics of characters eliminates racial dominance and implies that beauty is irrespective of skin colour.

Exactly, Representation matters!
I agree with that but it’s just stupid to change white characters to black characters
Wow damn ya know I never thought that 😂 but some probably would
Instead of changing old white characters to make them more diverse. They need to just make new characters more diverse. Not a hard concept.

i do 1000% agree that disney should just make a new black princess or character but i also think them making ariel black isn’t a big issue bc there’s no cultural significance behind being a mermaid. like if tiana was white that’d be a problem bc her character revolves around her being a black woman in the 1920’s. and it’d be the same thing if they made merida black or smth because her character revolves around her being scottish. but yea i dont think there’s harm in making ariel black but i do think disney could’ve just created a new character

Rhino with your own logic, there should be nothing wrong with making Ariel black since kids don't think about race according to you. So what's the fuss all about?
sounds like what a white person would say
Kids definitely think about race. They’re just so used to seeing white people in shows but if they saw a person who looked like them they would be excited. I’m grown now but I still think the Princess and the Frog was my favorite Disney movie because Tiana was black and represented Louisiana culture
That’s not true😂 they are kids

@@dapo3538 I agree. Rhino said kids don't see race which I don't agree with. Kids definitely see race, but just don't talk about it like adults do (kids don't talk about anything, they just observe and internalise). How do I know this? Because I remember as a kid I always liked Flora and Aisha from the winx club the most just because they were black (I just recently discovered Flora wasn't black lol) they looked like me and whenever I played imaginary winx club with my friends, I would always play as one of those two characters. Same with Strawberry shortcake, I always liked Orange more because she was the only character that looked like me, so I gravitated towards her. I was around 7-10 at the time, so I definitely observed the racial differences in cartoon characters.

It is important to have representation in the media. There are so many races, cultures, and types of people in the world and for so long it was mainly just one group being showcased and represented in media consistently. It's not like there's no existence of people of color in different TV shows and films, but they are often reduced to stereotypes or playing supporting roles. I don't think there's anything wrong with demanding more when it comes to representation, especially when it's so lacking. White people are represented often and there is a wide range in the types of characters they get to represent. There are so many genres and character roles that you don't see POC in and that's because society/the world has grouped them into being one thing, while white people can be anything. I think that the push for more media representation has had its pros and drawbacks, the pros are that we are getting more range in POC character portrayals, the drawbacks are that sometimes the diversity or representation is poorly executed, and you can tell that something was written or added in to be "inclusive" whether than it feeling natural and a part of the content.

To say kids nowadays do not care is mind blowing. Stop comparing kids today when you were a child because things were different as in we didn’t have all the social media platforms growing up and also a lot of things happening in the world was not told to us or saw it with our own eyes. Now with social media and people recording these kids see a lot of things and have to deal with a lot more things did we ever did. So really you can’t compare your childhood to yours 💯
White kids wont say “Wow he’s white like me” because they are used to seeing that. They are used to seeing white characters. TV has always been traditionally white. So no white child is going to say that.
Exactly. Their imagery is everywhere. They are the default.

But I feel bad for the black girls who had to grow up without seeing or knowing what representation of us was or feels like . It’s truly something developed young .
I think it doesn’t really matter for the race of the princess, BUT yes Caucasian princesses have been more represented in the “princess culture.” It’s more so a KID being excited with seeing representation. I don’t think every character should be changed.
It's a slippery slop simple make your own princess character
For the last time, you can’t represent a race, it’s racist to think a white character, for example, is the mascot of all white ppl (that’s what the use of words like “represent,” in situations like these, means)
I think no character should be changed; ez work, make a new character like what they did with remaking the Brothers Grimm’s _The Frog Prince,_ Tiana and Naveen are completely different from the characters in that story, even the plot is different.
There’s no way kids actually care about “representation” (that racist bull), I can’t wrap my head around it. I don’t think/know any kid of any race, unless they were taught to be a racial supremacist, jumped for joy when they saw a character with the same race as them.
It’s not like that character looks like them because they share the same race. That logic of “racial representation” reminds me of how everyone called any black kid a Lost Boy (usually as a joke) when we watched The Good Lie in school just because of the actors’ race and because Lost Boys were Sudanese, and well, black. I dunno, i become physically repulsed by the term “representation” these days.
I get cultural representation, but not racial representation.
I mean America is a majority white country so that is the way it should be. Imagine animators in Africa made most of their characters white? That wouldn't even make sense. You'd expect the majority of characters to represent the actual population, nothing wrong with that.
i think the kids in these videos are happy because it feels good to be seen. esp black girls, outside of tiana there aren't many other disney characters that are black girls. would it have been a better decsion to just make a new disney princess and then have halle play her? yeaaa i think so. but seeing "yourself" on tv is a big deal, because we dont get a lot of that in disney culture. you can't tell me you didnt feel some type of way when black panther first came out. i felt proud to be black, because i saw some one who looked like me, "saving the world" the parents whipping out the camera to record the kids reaction is crazy tho lol. but im not mad that the kids were happy to see hemselves in an otherwise white-dominated franchise. idk i could be wrong

it’s the fact that rhino keeps having these conversations with non black people, like how you gon ask a non black person how they feel about a black princess? and a man on top of that. Man did not look up to princess growing up the way women did or im assuming need that representation (base on y’all’s conversation) like a lot of poc growing up,ask literally any female of color, how they felt about their looks growing up and if she not the 1 out of 100 she gonna tell you that representation means a lot to her

Fr as I was watching the video I was think Noah and rod don't even really have a say in this
He literally said it’s narcissistic and exhausting for black people to want more representation in the comments…..
A lot of black children & parents just get excited about having representation in children’s films. As a child I never really thought about it because my mom would go out her way to buy us black children’s books and turn on black cartoons (which were hard to find), but looking back I did wish I saw more cartoons/princesses that looked like me. Yes, we did get Princess Tiana BUT she was a frog the entire film.
This is kinda off topic, but it did suck on Halloween wanting to dress up as a Disney Princess and the only option was tiana lol. Like I wanted to be cinderella but I knew damn well I looked nothing like her. The only identifying feature was the dress 😭 I just looked a mess. But the white children could literally be ANY character they wanted andddd it was obvious what they were and they actual did look like the character bc of the color of their skin.
Although many may not agree on changing Ariel’s race, there are so many other movies featuring a white Princess that it doesn’t make much sense to be mad over THIS one. This movie looks corny af to me but I do love to see black kids happy that one of their favorite characters look like them.
Swapping skin for characters sets a bad precedent no matter which way you cut it. It's just one of many "white" princesses is no excuse. It's dangerous to teach kids that doing a skin swap is all they need or should expect. Tiana wasn't just a skin suit, her story involved elements of specific part of black culture in New Orleans. Mulan wasn't a skin suit, even though some stuff was made you got to see bits of Chinese culture. Moana got that. Pocahontas got that. Belle is French. Rapunzel is German. Merida is Scottish. And by your logic they can be lumped under their skin tone and erased for another group with another skin tone.
Pushing for black faces on white stories isn't representation, it's tokenism except for some reason folks today are glad for it. Cooperations like Disney are happy for it too because they don't have to push for new characters and can just repaint old ones to the flavour of the month. One day black won't be that flavor.
There's a reason most don't know Brandy was once Cinderella. Don't accept empty representation. I rather have Moesha, Kenan and Kel, My Wife and Kids, The Cosby Show, The Bernie Mac Show, Sanford and Son, The Fresh Prince, Sister Sister, In Living Colour, Living Single, The Wayans Brothers, Family Matters, The Sinbad Show, Jett Jackson (rest Lee Thompson Young's soul), The Princess and the Frog, etc. than some Friends reboot with a diverse cast nobody will remember in a couple years. Imagine how awesome it would be if Halle was given a character that was based on her, with her own name and a story that belonged to her likeness alone.
It's only about black kids....sad...even Tinker Bell....Disney is wrong....just make a show with the original Mermaid again to put out the fire
Do kids even care about skin color though? The thing is kids specifically black kids are still KIDSSSSS. kids don’t careeeee about stuff like this. The problem is parents telling them to overreact and do this and do that for a Tik tok video? The guy made a great point about when we were kids we didn’t care what color our favorite cartoon was. Although I do understand the point you were making, the intention is there but the way it’s going about it not .

@@forgondor881 if you aren’t a black girl just say that LMAO
I disagree with the Fresh prince example. A lot of original episodes had to do with the intersectionality of being black and wealthy so making the reboot non-black wouldn’t make sense.
That’s what Rob said that it’s different for a show like that because of the culture behind it which is shown in certain episodes and is core part of these characters in the show
Well they could change that to any ethnicity and just make them immigrants
@@papi_18 there’s no representation behind a mermaid im glad she’s black and I don’t see a white person having a high top fade and the hair goes up like will did
The reason that it would be different if they replaced black Panther with a white guy is because the race and culture of that character is so connected to the character that changing it would make him a complete different character because his race and culture is what a defines him, but with Ariel, she is literally just a mermaid, she doesn’t have any one race that she can be defined as, so it doesn’t matter what race they make her

Hopefully I can explain this well, but the reason that I believe a lot of these reactions from these kids is genuine is because as a black person, we don’t see as much representation in media as white people do. ESPECIALLY in kids content. So when we do get something, it resonates. Just think about when black people who ain’t never seen a superhero movie in their life were lining up to see Black Panther. Hell, I work in a movie theater and there might be even more showing up for the sequel. It’s the same phenomenon.
I would also like to believe the reason a lot of these parents are posting these videos is to counteract the racism. It shows that this stuff really does matter, her skin color does matter. Representation does matter, just look at our youth.

Also, a lot of the points you’re making like “What if they made an Indian Fresh Prince” don’t make sense because shows like Fresh Prince and movies like Black Panther make being Black/African integral to the story. Ariel can be any color because her race isn’t integral to the story.

its kinda sad these guys are slowly turning into these reverse oppression brainwashed people. All of their arguments are all skewed from their personal experiences from 20 years ago, and not even considering that others have different feelings than them. From all of their videos they bring up flip sides of situations not even considering historical context and past and current experiences of different ppl, and then just preach these wild talking points from only their one sided viewpoints.
Exactly like… ok yeah you don’t feel represented seeing these black characters on tv rhino. But you don’t even make up 1% of the black population so where do we go from here like…
!!
Bro shutup 💀
@@ceezee57 you gots to be no older than 13 usin that emoji dawg 🤣
@@evanlick I’m way older “dawg” what has an emoji got to do with anything wtf 😂
you guys never miss
Dude y’all literally make my day🤟 much love ✌️
"SHES BLACK" gets me everytime lmfao
The fact I’m able to agree and disagree for both sides of the argument is hilarious and shows how dumb this stuff is, idc if Disney changes it or not, if they do u really shouldn’t care more then u would’ve if they didn’t.
16:37 miles morales is a different character lol, he’s a complete different person that also knows peter Parker
Hi sp topic aside love y’all keep up the hard work❤
Ryan never watched the proud family💀 please make him react to it 😂💖
Ryan just lost his black card…. Naw but Fr how you not know about Miles morales aka Spiderman lol that was the best part 😂😂
I know I’m late for comment, but something I wanted to share was when I was younger I did notice the different colors of characters in tv shows, movies, animated tv shows and animated movies, but I didn’t care and it never bothered me. I didn’t think the color of their skin defined their personality, just like they all said.
I think just because I noticed it doesn’t mean I was a racist child.
I absolutely wasn’t a racist kid, if I was I wouldn’t be around them. If I did and was, I would’ve said offensive things to and about them, which I haven’t. A lot of kids are very observant and probably notice but won’t let that be the reason they like or dislike the character. I as a white guy could relate to a black character just as much as I would with a white character. Great video Strawberry Park!! Also this guy is naturally funny lmao 😂 and He’s a good motivational speaker (I would say)
I've never thought of race now or when I was younger. Race/color goes with the region where the story is placed... Tiana is in Louisiana where the people are predominantly black, belle is in France with more white skin, and so forth. Some things don't "make sense" the other way, but with everything going on in this day and age, we have to allow it.
never expected this crossover tbh
As men who aren’t fully black , explaining how black kids shouldn’t care about representation because they’re kids doesn’t make sense to me😂. Like you don’t even know what seeing black representation as a kid feels and mean to children .
Like as a child I obviously knew when someone did not resemble my family or color on TV.
Exactly like don't speak on something you know nothing about and they say it so confident it'd crazy
I thought I was tripping when I heard rhino say he hasn’t seen the proud family 😭😭
Can't believe Rhino never heard of The Proud Family and Miles Morales 😂.
Ryan don’t know bout the Proud Family 💀
It’s less about if the kids care that’s she’s black, it’s about what children connote to beauty and self worth overtime.Representation matters.
Representation by replacing pre-existing white characters with black ones? If they made a black character white, the entire black community would be in an uproar.
Best part of the video is Ryan finding out that there’s a black Spider-Man 😂😂
Yall some real one for real and you guys are funny too! Don’t ever change don’t be like Ethan Klein
Strawberry park (and LLS of course) is goated. Been entertained for 7 years now
I need a white panther
I loved Aladdin and mulan growing up. Never thought about race or anything.
I just enjoyed the characters!
Same
I would say that we do see race and colour even when we are 8,9 years old. But we don't attach the colour or race to any other ideology. Which is what makes it innocent. If you stay the same. You don't deny the truth of your eyes and the colours it shows but your able to see beyond anything prejudiced.
"AND he's gay"💀
They should just made a live princess and the frog, how could they forget about her 😔
We tend not to think about them consciously but I think it has an effect on our subconscious mind ,,, just a thought
So glad you guys found this CZcamsr. He’s a goat,
I really don’t think her being black is a bad thing. She could just be a good actor. Don’t get me wrong, Disney’s hella woke. But this isn’t one.
Yeah it is..They're doing it to Tinker Bell too...
Ariel isn’t even an actual human being so making her white or a poc doesnt change anything about the characters story so I truly don’t understand those who care about her race. Changing a charcter like princess in the frog to someone other than black completely changed the cultural meaning behind the story. The extreme ignorance is bother some to me the fact he thinks it could work vice versa with white people is amusing. There are a million and one ways white people are represented in the media in comparison to poc characters. So yes the characters in movies do matter because they fully influence the younger generation and how they perceive themselves.
Ryan don't know Miles Morales 😱
😂😂😂
