How to make Best looking DiY Wind Turbine Whirligig wind spinner big 22 inch Span

Tear down of my Whirligig Wind Turbine, discussion of hubs, blades and bushings for making it spin easily in the wind. Each blade is 11.5 inches long so the overall span is more than 22 inches. Uses a conventional hub cut from 3/4 inch poplar. The support is a 1/2 inch dowel.

I’d be interested in watching a test you could create comparing the performance of the different propellor shapes shown here, and even if you made a set of the older blades, but extended to the same length of the 22” wind turbine blade. Have you thought about doing that?

FWIW: I have always _'had a thing'_ for windmills, wind spinners, whirligigs, etc. Miniature or full size, does not matter.

Uh, clarification please. At the start and at the end, your blade goes straight edge into the wind with angle edge trailing. In the middle when you reassembled it was angle edge into the wind. Does it even make much difference?

I think near the end when I assembled the blades to the turbine body, I accidentally put them on backwards. As far as the wind is concerned it makes no difference, however it looks wrong compared to a real wind turbine.Nice catch
