Most people want these old cars to save and make money on them or drive them in a club. Me, I live on a farm and have two dogs, I am disabled and just want an old station wagon to throw my dogs in the back, drive it to town, take the dogs for a run along the river bank and then drive home. Problem is I could only throw $5000 at one, I want to buy something comfortable for long drives, my friends live four hours up north and i would like to visit them more often but I would need some newer tech for those kind of trips so maybe an SUV but around here near my place I would love an old car. I'm spewing because about 12 years ago I owned a HR Station wagon with a 161 and a 2 speed Powerglide and I loved that car. I sold it before I moved down here as it was my spare. I'm 56 now and i don't understand all the new computer cars but I know my way around an old Ford, Holden or Valiant, at least to keep it maintained, I don't have the body to rebuild one because I broke my back and no longer have any strength.
I was like “2 hrs! No way am I watching all that.” 2hrs later….thanks for the walk down memory lane. 😂

Amazing to see the variety of cars we once had. Saddening to think they were all once someone's shiny new pride and joy that transported their families everywhere they went.

Worse is they are still happening due to loss of repairing ability, obsession with new and fear mongered with safety by the media.
If anyone gets through that the environmental mental push will.
Only a few would have the combination of all the below.
Especially with housing drying up, stable jobs and move to small apartments rather than real proper houses with a garage and car port

The little car at the 1hr 50min mark is a Renault Dauphine which were made from 1956 to 1966. They were rear engine rear wheel drive with an 850cc engine. My Dad had 2 including the sportier version Called the Dauphine Gordini which sported extractors a Weber carby and enormous drum brakes. The Gordini was a pocket rocket and was amazingly quick in its day. It took first place in many world rallies including the Monte Carlo in 1958. Surprisingly Renault assembled some Dauphines in Somerton Victoria. Thanks for the video! It would be good to see some of these old treasures restored.

The stories they could tell of years gone by and adventures. Kids screaming, jumping up and down on the back seat and dad yelling back SITDOWN AND KEEP YOUR FEET OFF THE SEATS. I was one of those kids and we had to sit bolt upright in the back seat of dads EH sedan. Fortunately I still have dads EH today.😊 Dad let me drive his beloved EH when I was 11 years old cause I was saying I could drive it as I watched him alot when he was driving. He was amazed and so was I absolutely loved it. Dad looked after that car and was in really good condition when it was left to me. I miss him greatly. I'm 63 now and have wonderful memories. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. 🥲 I love cars too mate.👍

How many times I've heard people say we don't have things like this over here. Talking about how in the United States you seem to have an abundance if he is looking the right places of old cars sitting around. Looks like you found something 👍

@@backshed5295 I see you folks have some very interesting variance on American cars. Plus you have some of your own cars that are really interesting from days gone by. And then an opposite example of that would be what we call the Pontiac GTO have a few years ago. Definitely an old American name plate but it wasn't made here. Thankfully or they would have made it front wheel drive. With that being said there's a dirty little secret here in the states and spills over into Canada. Probably true any other places in the world 🌍. There's plenty of old cars laying around. They are even quite buildable. As long as somebody just doesn't have to have one with the hemi or some other highly specialized car. There's a number of classics to be found. And the prices have been dropping in the United States for a couple years now on the classic cars. Other people are beginning to talk about it. One probably above All the people that are the most interested or aging out. Secondly the last couple of generations are not that inclined to building on these cars and trucks. What I mean by the last couple of generations is the latest generations you could be building these but just aren't. Probably number 3 spot would be the fact that we've been selling a lot of our American classics overseas and that may be drying up a little bit too. The other item I would say is the cost of everything. I mean just yesterday I saw 79 through 1981 trans Am straight as an arrow fresh come out of the barn judging by the cover of dust on it going by me on a car trailer. I didn't have to shake her Hood so it's probably been robbed of its engine. Right in front of it was a Corvette on another trailer. Probably coming from the same place. I know of dozens upon dozens of old salvage yards and some stashes across the country here. What does all this mean to you, I don't know. I shared it because of this marvelous stash that you found that would probably be more rare than a stash we would find in the United States

I’m from England and I’ve had a love for old Aussie cars since I backpacked in Australia in 1993.
The hostel I stayed in in Cremorne had an old Holden kingswood parked outside that had belonged to backpackers that had gone home.
Anyone could use it and I drove it to Dee why where I was working.
It didn’t have the best brakes and the 3 on the tree kept jumping out of gear but loved the old thing.
Stopped off on the way home for a few stubby VB,S Happy times😊

Didnt have much info back then, no wiki or you tube to learn about these cars as we didnt get them in uk

Those little two door RWD Corollas are fun! I built one up for my sister's first car in the late 80s with a warm 1.8 and later model Seca rims plus decent suspension and the thing handled like it was on rails. Looked great as well in fresh Cornfields yellow, all new chrome and a new interior.

Brilliant walk-through, really great. The stories these vehicles could tell. Whole generations of Australian’s being driven around when these cars were all shiny new. The crack about the Holden Camira going straight from the Showroom to the Wrecking Yard really made me laugh. Those couple of Chrysler Centura’s you came across were pretty cool too, my mates dad had one with the 4.0l hemi; that thing moved. Thanks for a great walk down memory lane!

I had a Centura in 4.3 hemi and its acceleration shocked me. Drank a lot of petrol, but gave 5.0L Toranas and Falcons a huge shock. Really regretted writing it off.

We had a red sigma wagon newer series had a 4sd great family car @the time then Dad bought a Mitsubishi star wagon which was a van with extra long retractable sun roof.Back inthe day we would feed seagulls out the top.8 seater we all slept in it & if you were lucky you got a window seat @night coz if that sun hits you during the day you know your gonna get burnt..oh the memories. Thanks for taking the time to film & share with us. Sadly, the future for those vehicles is looking bleak and it's likely mostly will be scrapped as the capacity to do as you suggest (buy 2 & make 1) is limited.

The car that you couldn’t identify next to that HQ panel van was a 63 or 64 Plymouth Fury. And every time you put your hand down to check the rocker panels on those cars I would wince expecting to see one of those huge brown, venomous snakes that you have in Australia come out.

I liked the little car with the suicide doors. It had the empty spot next to it! A total sweet car. To answer the patina question. I have a 1948 super deluxe ford. Everything is shiny and new. Problem is you’re afraid to drive it because of all the work that you put into it. I have a 1951 Plymouth 2 door that I drive the snot out of. It’s a cool rat rod that I am not worried about dings and scratches!
